So I was driving home from work today and since I go through various villages on my way home I was only doing about 20mph. I noticed a couple of kids that I thought were trying to knock some railings over, but I realised when I got a bit closer that these three lads were kicking someone who was curled up into a ball against the railings. I pulled my car up onto the curb, ran over and grabbed one of them by the back of his jacket and chucked him onto the ground behind me. The other two ran off before I could get to them so I turned round to have a word with the one I'd grabbed. I asked him why the **** he was doing it in as scary a voice as I could muster and the kid turned and ran while screaming "cause he's fat".

After the three were gone I went over to make sure the kid was alright and I swear he couldn't have been older than 13 whereas his attackers were all clearly 16-17.I asked if he was ok and he said he'd be alright but he was covered in bruises and had a bloody nose. He told me that this happens to him every day!

Now at this point these kind of rants would normally start having a go at the kids or the parents but that wasn't what bothered me about this, yes the kids were bastards and their parents should give them a good hiding but, 4 cars went past before me and probably many more since this was a busy road and it had clearly been going on for 5-10 minutes. The kid seemed genuinely SHOCKED that I'd stopped. Like I was doing him some big favour!

The real problem is not the scallies or their parents, it's the fact that out of at least five people I was the ONLY one who stopped to do something about it. It's not like these kids had dragged him into a dark alley and set on him, they were doing it in plain sight and not one person thought to stop and break it up. The problem with this world can be encapsulated in one sentence.

"NOT MY PROBLEM"

So I ask you this, and be honest since I've made it a private poll so that you won't look like a coward if you say no, would you try to stop it if you were in my position?

"WHY'D YOU DO THIS?!"

"Cause I'm fat! I'm fat! *runs* "

Villages? Are you sure they weren't orcs beating up a dwarf?

This is the way the world works...its in the Bill of Rights.

No, the one they were beating up was fat
Hah, that's almost as good.

I mean uh, sad. That is pretty messed up, beating up a kid just cause he's fat. Heck, he may just be big-boned. :down

Good on ya for helpin the kid out.

Oh man, good on you. It's so true...I got beaten up once outside a busy tube station...people were stuck in traffic on the road...I was on the adjacent pavement...in clear sight of everyone.

No-one, not once attempted to get these guys off me. I was there thinking- 'I'm here on the floor being kicked the crap out of and no one's doing anything to stop them...' I had bruising on my torso and a split lip. Luckily they didn't take anything.

I only wish there were more people in the world like you. I know if I saw a person being beaten up that I'd do the same thing as you.

No. I wouldn't want to get involved in anything like that, they might turn on me next. And I am kind of hoping to keep this nose for another ten years at least. I mean it in a non-mean way though. Maybe if the bashers went away, then I would ask if he's okay.

It's not the way the world should work. People should care and should be affected enough by this sort of thing to do something about it! :csad:

People are only interested in themselves. As long as they are happy.

It's just the cycle of life. and not a good one at that.

To answer the poll, I'd like to think I'd help. It depends on who the attackers are. (kids, big buff dudes, guys with guns) But at the very least I've got a phone and 911 is pretty easy to remember.

I have helped people in that situation. But it usually shouldn't be considered my business. Unless the beating is obviously severe and one sided.

I would help a kid whose getting his arse kicked as you did, but if I saw a grown man/men getting beat up, I'd think twice and probably not get involved (most people who get their @$$es handed to them deserve it)

Whose to say how the world should work?

Personally, I hate when the strong pick on the weak...or when the good stand by and let evil reign.

Personally, I intervene at all costs with altruism just being an unintentional participant for the ride.

Personally, I like putting the big and bad in their places.

BUT, this is the way the world works...from insects all the way up to human beings...the spider kills the fly.

No. I find it's best to stay out of other people's affairs.

The problem with 911 is usually you're talking 10-15 mins minimum till the police arrive and by then the damage is done. Thing is, four or five people at least went past in the space of about a minute and if they'd all pitched in no-one would have been at risk. I'm not saying people should go out an be vigilianties but that communities as a whole should look out for their own. If enough people step in lads like this will be too scared to pull this kind of crap.

granted, if it's a one on one fight that's fairly evenly matched then there is probably a reason, but this was three teenagers kicking the crap out of a child. There's never an excuse for that.

I agree you DV8, I would help a kid who was getting beating up by cpuole of kids but grown men fighting - I would probably get my ass out before someone gives me a black eye or something worse...

I've broken up fights and bullying before. Even gotten punched a couple of times for my troubles, too (which prompted an ass-whipping for the persons who threw those punches in both instances). Been awhile since I've had to do so, but I would intervene just like you did. Kudos to you for doing so. The big problem that deters so many people from doing it more in this day and age is that so many of these kids are packing guns and are too stupid to think a bit about whether they should use them or not. Makes the prospect of helping someone out a bit more dangerous than it used to be.

You know, Hippy Fascist, all the world is the same. I would have done the same if I were in your position, probably I would have gone a little far and I would have tried to convince the victim's parents to talk to the parents of the other kids. When I was younger (about 10 years ago) I remember being in the bathroom of my school, and there was this HUGE boy beating up another boy, in front of my schoolmates. You know what? I have been the only one to put the fight to an end, and there were almost 25/30 guys in that room doing absolutely nothing. And this is just an example...

I would save the kid if it were kids beating him up.

Otherwise, I'd grab my .45 :o

I have a saying about this, if evil isn't given the chance to shine, then people wouldn't understand what evil is, and when it does creep in as corruption through pride, it would never be stopped.

Sometimes bad is a required part of our existance.

Agreed. 9/10 times, there's no excuse.
