The Resident Evil Thread - Part 1

Eurogamer has a review for RE4 HD up. Cant say Im surprised bc I couldnt notice any difference in the comparison shots Capcom released months ago: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-09-19-resident-evil-4-hd-review

It is the most high-resolution version of Resident Evil 4. Capcom may be one of the top developers in the world, but there's no denying its love of a quick buck - and Resident Evil 4 HD has been done as cheaply and quickly as possible. It's a cynical exercise resembling nothing so much as a naked emperor: standing tall with its high-res output, with everyone too astonished to remark on its itty-bitty textures.

Resi 4 HD's visuals are the GameCube version's: textures designed to be viewed at a maximum of 480p. Nothing has been done to the game's assets bar the upscaling, and what makes it worse is that Resi 4, from start to finish, requires you to pay especial attention to your surroundings. It begins with Leon approaching an unknown village through a sparse, scrubby forest, which is dotted with bear traps to snag unwary adventurers, often hidden under patches of grass. You spot these bear traps by looking at the ground.
That's the killer: Resident Evil 4 HD doesn't look better than Resident Evil 4 SD. Who would have known, but scaling back clever fogging and lighting effects (as this has done in many places) and simply exposing old textures in 1080p doesn't look that good. It's a stark sight.

Resident Evil 4 is a brilliant game, but that's exactly why Resident Evil 4 HD is such a disappointment. This is no definitive version or director's cut (wouldn't that be something), but a criminally half-baked attempt to winkle a little extra cash from the still-beating heart of a classic. Resi 4 deserves better than this; Resi 4's legions of devoted fans deserve better than this; and Capcom should be much better than this.

I take what Eurogamer says and think the exact opposite. That place is beyond garbage. Iv seen plenty of videos that showcase how good the game looks compared to the PS2 version of the game.

Guess ill find out how good it looks(or doesn't) come Wednesday.

Eurogamer is the "hipster" review site... Seriously. I often think they trash games to be trendy.

So, anyone picked it up yet? I saw it up, on Games on Demand, for Xbox Live this morning.

Yeah, I was surprised to see it up too. I downloaded the NBA 2K12 demo before heading out to work, and saw it up.

I noticed it'll take up 3.59 gigs too, for those who may have wondered.

I think I might go ahead and get the thing for 360 when it's all said and done. But, I figure I'll take more time to decide.

I just want 1 - 3 on Live. Make it happen CAPCOM

Did u happen to notice the price? Apparently there seems to be a glitch and it's priced at like 1849 MS points when Capcom said it would be 1600

When I saw it this morning, it was listed with the actual price and not in Microsoft Points. It was listed as $19.99 when I saw it. And, under Games on Demand as opposed to Arcade too.

I'm struggling to find enough memory to download it. Kind of a pain in the ass

Yea its correct, I'm downloading it now. I just read an article online stating the price was off for some.

Resident Evil 4 HD seems to be missing the HD. Review Pod.
LOL...thats what I said. It doesnt look any different from when I played the game a 2 years ago. Even when Capcom uglied up their screenshots to give off the allusion that it looks better, it still didnt seem like much of a significant improvement

Is that a problem? The game looked phenomenal when it came out, this looks great you cant really update it too much

It looked phenomenal when it came out on regular TVs. Now they did an "HD" port of a game, that seems to be inferior to it's SD part. But hey, at least it has Trophies now.

Man, the opening scene to RE is awful, just awful! LOL. I forgot just how cringeworthy the voice acting was as well

Thats wholly incorrect. It deff looks better than the Gamecube version and its light years ahead of the PS2 version.

I've never played a RE game after going through some anxiety issues around the time my brother got the first 2 on the original Playstation, but I've been very intrigued to check out RE4. I always wanted to try the Wii version, but if this new HD version is just as good and has easy trophies, I might actually get this instead.
