The Resident Evil Thread - Part 1

I want them to have like they had RE2. When you play as one character then play as the other from their POV.

I'd like to think this game will mark the series' proper return to the horror genre, but sadly I know Capcom better than that. n00bz hate horror games because they're "too hard" and aren't like Gears of War or Call of Duty, and Capcom wants n00bz to like Resident Evil. :csad:

just remake 2, or at least an hd version.

but this is capcom, so we'll get the remake, the special edition the extended edition etc etc

Dead Space 2 showed you can have both.

But still, if it were up to me, the next RE would play just like the original few games and n00bz DEFF dont want that.

Never got the chance to play the remake, so what improvements are we talking about?

Obviously a major graphics overhaul(which imo still makes it one of the better looking games out there), there were new rooms added to the mansion and a few new story elements(the Trevor diaries). It also added in the 180 turn that wasnt in the orig game. There were also defensive weapons you could pick up, so if you were attacked by a zombie you could use the defensive weapon to stop from being bitten.

Also, Crimson Heads, and thats all im gonna say about them.

I wouldn't want a complete return to the old stuff. Especially gameplay-wise. I know 'core fans get foamy at the mouth about it (especially one on here that will probably say something to this post), but the gameplay of those games have not aged well at all and was starting to get very stale back then even by the third installment. I know some fans really didn't like the fact that RE4 basically reinvented it from the ground up, but it was really a necessity for the time.

That being said, I still would like to see the series return more to the survival horror route. RE5 just strayed way too far from that with its direction. But RE4, to me, was still pretty true to what RE4 was. It had more octane driven gameplay, but it felt appropriate to me, because I never really considered RE games all that much of horror games (probably another sentiment that'll make hardcore fans scream in rage at their screens). It was always more about the survival in survival horror as opposed to horror (back in the day, I always felt like Silent Hill was the horror game with some survival elements, and Resident Evil was the survival game with a horror-ish backdrop) for me. I always felt it was much more about the situations you were in and how you were going to get out then really scaring you. More Aliens than Alien, basically.

But I will echo looking at Dead Space as a decent template for trying to do something that combines the two. It was able to keep that survival horror element without a lot of problems of the older RE games, but still managed to keep some octane to it.

One thing I know for sure, regardless of direction, I sure don't want another forced co-op game.

I actually agree with you for the most part(altho i highly doubt you'll find too many ppl to agree with you that the orig titles didnt rely heavily on their horror elements). The reason i want to go back to the orig style of the game is due to the fact that its still part of the best game in this series(the REmake). They've yet to top it. RE4 comes close. Obviously Dead Space showed you can do the 3rd person and still be effectively terrifying, but i think now, Capcom could go back to the fixed camera and have the game be very effective.

I just want RE to return to what RE and RE2 were. I honesty dont care what the camera angle is. Bring back the tight passageways, the overwhelming sense of dread, the scarcity of ammo, the feeling of isolation and the insane puzzles.

Much agreed to that. Sheeva was a major stone in my shoes. I want to feel alone and isolated when playing RE and I don't want to care for protecting someone while I already have to worry about protecting myself.

Hey, I'm no RE elitist. I played REmake and I wasn't into it. However, I loooved RE4 and I love RE5 and I still play it quite often.

However, I really dug the Lost in Nightmares RE5 version of the original...I wouldn't mind at all if they went that route in RE6.

Did you play any of the orig games? If not, you missed out on what RE truly was. Altho, 4 was pretty close. 4 gas some of the creepiest enemies out of all the games.

Like I said, I don't really care for the originals all that much, but I did give them a chance---they just aren't my kind of games.

However, as I said, I don't like getting all caught into what they used to be...

You have no idea how many times I tried to play through REmake...I did however keep it long enough to sell it back for a decent price.

I haven't given up on the old RE games though--Maybe if I can find some kind of RE bundle lot on ebay for a decent price, I could try to actually go play some of the originals (or whichever are backwards compatible with my PS3/Wii/Gamecube)..

You may want to check out Resident Evil Code Veronica X, which is getting an HD remastered release next month on PSN/XBLA. Aside from RE0, it was the last of the classic RE survival horror before RE4's revamp shifted the series into a more of a shooter. You might be a, bit lost without knowledge of the first 2 games, but I think its simple enough to follow, I guess if you read some summaries online

???

What are you asking? Is it worth it? Hell no. $150 is way too much money for a bunch of used games. You can probably go hunting at your local Gamestops for them as you'll probably pay ~ $10 or so per title
lol, yeah, it might've made more sense if they weren't preowned..

Out of all of them, Resident Evil 2 is the hardest and the most expensive to find.

I think that's where most of the cost is coming from..

I just looked up RE2 for the PS1 on Amazon and they're selling it directly from Amazon new for $200. I didn't know they had any of it in stock but even for new, $200 is a bit extreme. I'd probably get a used copy for a fraction of that. If I had a PS3 I'd probably just get it off their store.

thats pretty much all the PS1 games and come September, every main RE will be downoadable on the PS3 except for RE0 and 5

I wish they could bring the Remake over. I still have my GC and that game but id purchase it on the PSn in a heart beat.

Why not RE0? Is it too recent?

If I decide to start getting them for PSN, which game should I start with? (dumb question)

RE0 was a Gamecube exclusive. I think there might be licensing issues with Nintendo. It also wasnt as popular as the other titles so I can see why it hasnt been given much priority

Start with RE1. The games are meant to be played in order as each builds upon the previous titles

RE1
RE2
RE3
RECV
RE4
