I think RE5 was a good game but definitely quite different to the early games. The 1st 2 are my favourites. I liked 3 too but wasn't as into gaming at that time.

I really don't see how you could say that about 4 and not 5. 5 was far more of a departure from the series in both tone, pace, and gameplay than 4 was.

Im talking more in terms of story. 4 went in a completely different direction. That was a true departure in almost every way. As far as gameplay, 5 was just an extension of what 4 did but adding a partner that could be controlled as opposed to simply NPC. To me though, bringing back classic RE threads made it feel alot more familiar. They didnt just bring back Chris and Jill, but they included quite a bit of nostalgia from earlier games. It felt like picking up their story from 1, 3 and CV. The return of Wesker and the remnants of the Umbrella story made the game feel like a sequel to the RE1-CV saga further adding to that sense of familiarity. RE4 felt more like a standalone tale which didnt quite fit in. I firmly beleive it truly could have been a spinoff

Well, if we're just talking about story I can see that, but there's still other ways in which 5 was a departure. The co-op was a big one, but just the general pacing became more action-oriented, and there was no real effort put into things like environment or atmosphere. Even if it's story was totally different, and the gameplay was altered, RE4 still had the spirit of a RE game more than 5 did.

From a story perspective, though, maybe. But 5 also did derail the story into really stupid ****, too. Mainly with how they basically turned Wesker into a DMC villain with his nonsensical plan and attitude.

EDIT: And maybe I am somewhat basis in saying this, though. I never felt like RE had a particularly great story or anything. The first two were just basic stories that would be fairly forgettable without the characters and game around it, three's story basically didn't exist, and I've forgotten exactly what CV was about.

Capcom Sets Up Real Life Resident Evil Survival Course. August 21, 2014 . 12:01pm As part of the promotional activities for Resident Evil’s HD remaster, Capcom have tied up with Base Camp Kawaba in Japan to offer a survival game field.

Capcom will be releasing a HD-remastered version of Resident Evil this November. As part of the lead-up promotional activities, they’ve tied up with Base Camp Kawaba in Japan to offer a survival game field.

Players grab a paintball gun and can partake in one of three different sorts of games offered: Capture-the-flag, Zombie War and Defend the Dignitary (Oh my god… It’s Team Fortress’s Hunted gameplay!)

Woah woah woah, did that say they are releasing the REmake in November? As in this November? Thought it wasn't coming out until 2015?

They are releasing the PS3 and 360 versions this November in Japan.

Japan picks up a lot first due to language translation and other factors

For you, it may have been a Tuesday, but for many others and I, RE is quite memorable as I haven't forgotten anything about the older games. For the hardcore fans who've been around since the beginning, RE wasn't just a story, it was an experience.

Maybe it's a bit dramatic lol, but it's the only way I can describe it. No other game put me in that kind of situation until RE came out. There was no other game like it at the time except for Silent Hill, which came after. No one ever really heard of Alone in the Dark so I don't count it. There's a reason it was Resident Evil that coined the term "Survival-Horror."

Maybe it is but its true. It may look dated now, but at the time, playing the original Resident Evil was an experience unlike any other.

You kneejerked. I didn't say RE was forgettable. I said the story itself would have been forgettable if not for the characters and gameplay. I agree, it was a very memorable experience, but the story on it's own? Nah, I never found it to be much of anything. Not bad per say, but a very basic horror story of being trapped in a spooky place.

Of course, I'm not judging the first game (or any of the games) purely based on their story, but I was purposely deconstructing that to respond to what Havok was saying.

Wtf. I want it this November too. Can u import those copies?

It's a digital release, but I do believe the PS3 version is getting a physical collector's edition, so you could import that as long as it's not region locked.

I find it somewhat amusing how loved RE4 is above all other when it heavily uses two of the most hated, or at least frowned upon game play mechanics. The over-use or I should say the inclusion period, of QTEs and the escort missions. Not to mention at some point the game turns into RE5/6 with all the explosions mini guns and chain guns shooting at you. In my view, the only things right RE4 did was the inclusion of Leon and Ada and the over-the-shoulder perspective.

You've mentioned this before, and I've replied before, but I will again I guess. The QTEs in RE4 aren't hated for the same reason they generally aren't that hated in the original God of War; they are QTEs done right. They aren't over-used, and they help to break up gameplay sections. You compare the amount of QTEs with RE4 to RE6, and you tell me which one is overused.

I hate escort missions, and I groaned hard when I got to Ashley, but it's not hated because you just tell Ashley to get the **** out of the way. Even on hard difficulties it's easy to just have her hide in a barrel or a dumpster and not have to worry about her. And they use Ashley from time to time, like QTEs, to break up gameplay sections with something fresh. Again, it's not hated, because it's done right.

RE4 does have a lot of action sequences, too, but I'd say it has about an even amount of pacing between slow, more "old school" RE and more action-based gameplay. The gameplay also changes somewhat to the scope of the game, as things become bigger, so to does the gameplay become more explosive. It's pacing is actually rather amazing in that regard.

So, there, it's not hard to see why RE4 is loved when you look at the whole of the game, not single out elements to look at them in a disconnected context.

EDIT: I will also add to my point that QTEs weren't hated at that point either. When games like RE4 and GOW did them, it was pretty cool. Especially RE4, which gave it the feel of watching interactive cutscenes. It wasn't until it started getting used all the time that people soured on them. People tell they always hated them, and maybe some did, but I know that when they first started and were being used in a good way, people thought they were cool as ****.

When Capcom releases Resident Evil HD Remaster in Japan, the visually upgraded survival horror game will have Japanese voiceovers. Have a taste of classic Resident Evil dialogue in Japanese.

Hiroki Tochi plays Chris Redfield, Atsuko Yuya voices Jill Valentine, Joji Nakata is Wesker, Yusaku Yara is Barry, and Ami Koshimizu is Rebecca Chambers.

We’re curious to see what the Japanese version of "Jill Sandwich" will be and how Barry explains powerful weapons in the Japanese version.

Capcom has not said if the Japanese voiceovers will be included when Resident Evil comes out in North America in early 2015.

Seems kind of dumb to have two RE releases in the same time span unless that early 2015 is just Japan with NA coming in the later half of the year

Since one is a full retail title, and the other is a digital-only rerelease, I don't think it's a big deal.

Interesting to me that Revelations 2 is being said to be all new characters. They've steadily being introducing new characters since RE5, but always with pre-existing ones. I've often thought this has made them lazy with new characters, since it's easy to expect the fan favorites to carry the interest. Been awhile, it feels like, since we had a really good, memorable character introduced into the RE universe.

Resident Evil 2: Revelations Takes Place On A Much Larger Stage Than The First Game. September 3, 2014 . 6:00pm

Famitsu notes that it looks like we’ll have to re-watch the Resident Evil 2: Revelations trailer to get more hints on what’s going on.

Capcom officially announced Resident Evil: Revelations 2, which will be developed by the core staff from the previous game. Series producer Machisaka Kawata and director Yasuhiro Anba talked more about the game in an interview in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine.

Several people shown in the trailer appeared to have some sort of bracelet or wrist device, that started out with green lights when things were calm but started turning red along with an ominous mood.

“It’s the most important key item,” says Kawata. “It will also become a key part of the game’s story.”

“While putting together content fort he trailer, I’d normally say ‘huh, but this is a spoiler!’ and stop it, but this time, I decided to bear with it and give it out as a big service,” adds Anba with a laugh.

Famitsu notes that it looks like we’ll have to re-watch the trailer to get more hints on what’s going on. They also ask what’s with the little girl who appears to be pointing at something or someone at the end of the trailer.
“You’ve pointed out a part that’s difficult for us to talk about right now,” responds Kawata with a laugh. “Personally speaking, that’s an image that I really like, and I’ll leave it at that for now.”

He continues,”the concept teaser trailer not only contains mysteries for Resident Evil: Revelations 2, but also pays an homage to the series. Please have fun thinking about different possibilities.”

The above image is a look at the creepy island that Resident Evil: Revelations 2 will take place.

“The first Resident Evil takes place in a mansion, and with Revelations taking place on a cruise liner, so you have many stages that were set in closed locations, but Revelations 2 will take place on a lonely island located somewhere in the distant sea. We’d like to make it into something we can call ‘Resident Evil Island’,” says Anba.

“The place is much wider than the cruise liner, so there’s plenty more we can set up than what we had in the previous game,” adds Kawata.

With the other image shown that depicts what appears to be some sort of jail, it looks like the island could be something similar to Alcatraz Island, but Kawata says that it’s not completely a prison island, and there will also be other facilities as well.

Resident Evil: Revelations 2 will be released in early 2015 for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
