The Resident Evil Thread

Resident Evil hasn't been "RE" in a long long time. Capcom doesnt even know what to do with the series. Im not surprised some TV production company is creating something that doesnt seem to feel or sound like the game series.

The gameplay has changed a lot, but the characters and stories have remained somewhat coherent, though. Somewhat. And the idea of biological weapons have stayed, even though it's grown to a global scale as opposed to a small one. I don't know why you say Capcom doesn't know what to do with the series? They seem pretty obvious in what they want it to be, more or less.

RE6 was a prime example of how confused that company is as to what they want their game to be. It was an absolute mess of styles that failed on just about every level.

Maybe, maybe Capcom has finally wised up and its why we are seeing the REmake ported over to the new consoles. Hopefully this mismash of genres for the series is over and Capcom will get back to focusing on what made this series popular in the first place.

RE6 was a mess, but I don't think it was confused so much as an intentional pastiche. The combat, though, was still more RE4-style action based for most of the game. And despite "not meeting expectations", the game sold over 6 million copies and was a very profitable. REMake is getting released because Capcom knows there's a fan base for it and it's got great novelty as a former Nintendo-only title, but unless it sells like 7 million copies, it's not going to change the course of the franchise.

Yea theres no doubt the action focus has worked, from a business pov. I mean none of the early games did numbers like RE5 and 6.

Yeah, I think RE1 sold something like 5 million copies across all it's releases. I don't think that exact style will ever be back full time. Maybe if Evil Within can successfully marry the two and is a good seller, Capcom will crib it (or crib it anyway).

Hopefully its better, and I sincerely hope it drops the whole "Last time, on Revelations" bit.

Am I crazy or didn't this leak once already from a French website? Weird that there's not going to be a 3DS version. I always thought that version did pretty well. Guess the console ports did better.

which is funny the one on the hand held were better received over the the port to the consoles. but I guess it was cause people really want it on the main console period.

The main complaint, I think, about the console versions were that they offered nothing new outside the HD paint. The game did have some flaws, too, that were maybe more forgivable on a portable than some would deem a console version to be less so, such as the lack of variety in enemies. Never did play any of the console versions, though.

yep it was more added new features were needed other wise it was basically the same experience . other wise the first time around on the hand helds it was fine. the same was stated for assassin creed liberation too ad it had some of it's mior problems still there besides that it was better looking.

That's not surprising bc handhelds have limitations and games are built around those limitations. That's not whats expected on a home console, so those compromises are less acceptable. People had similar issues with Peace Walker when it got ported to the 360/PS3. The game definitely didn't play like any other MGS and that's bc the original hardware didn't allow for that. RE:R may have been impressive for the 3DS, but the 360/PS3? Nah

^^ ....And in spite of all that, it been the best Resident Evil since CV. At least in my view.

Well that was stated for the reviews when wiiu of Revelations first came out which was the first to have it. the the others(systems) fallowed but they all tryed ot to repeat the same words but gamers found that in all 3 systems. but I'm that some what of the same issue over all. if one really looked

As for peace walker come paired to the others that were o had held that was way more robust for it's creation to the had held's there were some issues when it was ported to the consoles but it was better received and less talked about that way then others that were ported cause of it's robustness on the hand held's. which goes to show kojima pro is prolific there.
You can't be talking about Revelations.
yeah we are, Surprising ain't it

lol I don't think I stated it was better then CV, lol It's better the other installment that failed, yes cause they brouht back the horror and were trying to Maintain balance with it .

Not the ones that didn't bother with the horror at all and threw out alot of what made RE , RE. I like the games that try to keep the balance

I liked Revelations alright. It was a decent balance between "old school" Re and new RE overall. But eh, it wasn't particularly great to me, either.

Well the only other acceptable answer would be RE4. RE5 and 6 sure as hell weren't good RE games.

RE5 was a Call of Duty-esque action adventure superhero game and RE6 was a mess of all the genres Capcom wished RE was.

LOL. I love that .gif

Man RE5 might of been fun, but as a RE game, it dropped the ball.

RE5 was good, but I'm assuming he's talking in the "old school" sense of RE. It was really the first game that dropped any kind of attempt at horror. Some people say RE4 did, too but eh, **** those people.

I didn't even hate RE6 myself, though I wished the whole game had just been the Leon campaign (extended to full game length, obviously).

5 is extremely underrated. It was a GOOD game. To me, it felt more RE than 4 did, which for all intents and purposes felt more like a spinoff of the series than a sequel.

I really don't see how you could say that about 4 and not 5. 5 was far more of a departure from the series in both tone, pace, and gameplay than 4 was.
