Resident Evil Village Dev Thinks It'll Be the Best Survival Horror Game

The ladies don't look nightmare inducing. But the "vampires" with the hood, I think those are going to be the zombies in the game , like they could be the most common enemy in the game.

Also interested in this Metroidvania/semi open world structure. I noticed this structure with the recent God of War/Tomb Raider/Star Wars game. Though Re2r and the earlier games kinda have the metroidvania structure especially in Re2r, where you can go from the sewers to the police station.

But I just can imagine I will dread backtracking in this game.
I prefer vampires to zombies so I would be fine with that.

Does Resident Evil 4 really need a remake? I'm not sure it does.

Secondly, if they remove as much content as they did out of RE2 & 3, no thanks.

Keep in mind RE2 Remake basically removed the whole A&B scenarios of the zap system.

They were going to remake it like Re2r due to not so great reaction to the re3r.

However, there's currently change in the development so we might get a very drastic remake of re4.

I played Re4 in ps4 last 2018 and some teXtures and cutscenes look dated and low res but it doesn't look dated for a game that originally came out in 2005.

Like I said, they should be remaking Code Veronica, Zerø and the first game since all those games have a fiXed camera.

RE4's controls are garbage by any modern standard. I really want to play it so if they would just overhaul the controls I'd be happy. But the female character needs a ground up rework which can only be done in a full remake.

Really? RE4 is where they overhauled the whole control system and basically ditched the tank controls. Isn't the current series still sort of going by the control system RE4 started? Over-the shoulder style and all that?

What do you want done to Ashley?

Code Veronica remake makes more sense. But like...what are we doing here? Are they remaking the whole series? Where do these stop?

They are remaking the game that is guaranteed to sell. I understand other games need it, but from a business perspective, 4 makes a lot of sense.

I'd prefer no remake if they remove as many stages, levels, and bosses as they did from the last two games.

You might as well remake RE5 and RE6 while you're at it.

Code Veronica has Claire, Chris and Wesker. I don't see how a remake of that isn't a good idea just because its not a numbered game. Capcom had released way more questionable Resident Evil Games in the past while Revelations 1/2 could have been numbered games. It depends on how they market it and the quality of the game. Heck even Village doesn't flat out says it's Resident Evil 8. But here we are. While remakes of the first game and Zerø is something they could do back to back just like what they did with the remakes of 2 and 3.

Village was originally Revelations 3 by the way.

I’m glad it’s called Village but I would have liked the number as well. Definitely glad it’s not called Revelations 3.

I'm not sure why this myth about tank controls is so persistent regarding RE4. They didn't ditch tank controls. It has tank controls like all previous mainline RE games. What they ditched is fixed camera and introduced over-the-shoulder perspective. RE4 controls feels stiff and dated for this very reason. I'm pretty sure it will be updated to something along the lines of RE2R.

Also, they shouldn't touch Ashley. This stupid nonsense that's going on in mass culture atm to eradicate "damsel in distress" type of character and everyone should be badass, strong and independent. Ashley is silly and just a normal gal in extreme circumstances. There's a great dynamic between her and Leon and it should be kept intact. There's a bit of fan service like "pantsu" shots, and I wonder if it will remain in the new game. After all they chickened on Jill having a skirt in RE3R.

Well because of the fixed camera system, Resident Evil 4 controls very different from the older games, it's undeniable. In RE4, Leon moves where you want him to. And in the older games you have that weird directional spinning phase and way to get characters to run. It's not the same thing.

As for Ashley, I would find it highly annoying if they made her some gun-toting badass. It would make no sense.

Can anyone eXplain to me what were thetank controls in Re4? Can't we not use the joystick when walking and running?

To me R4 wasn't tank controls. The character moves basically where you point them to.

When I think tank controls, it's like you steer the direction with left or right then you press up or down to get the character move in that direction.

RE4 has the same spinning. You can't strafe, hence tank controls. You can spin and go back or forward. OTS camera allows precise aim, but it's beside the point.

Some "problematic" people might find a bit of fan service problematic, but outside of that I don't see anything wrong with Ashley. As the most desperate move to add something to her, I'd probably give her some heroic moment in final parts of the game. Something in fashion of Helen Tasker in True Lies dropping Mac 10 and shooting bad guys. Something that fits her clumsiness and innocence, yet saves the day. It will also fit the tone of the game, which is intentionally packed with Hollywood action blockbuster tropes and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Tank controls is when you can only turn, go forward and backward relative of your position. Old Tomb Raider games have tank controls, for example, as a game with free 3D camera.

I think people associate tank controls with fixed camera games, because this controls scheme finds itself at most useful, since you can maintain direction of movement when camera switches to a different cinematic angle.

I didn't mind Ashley.

But damn those sections in which I have to kill an army in the castle and the enemies keep grabbing her and all she does is shout Leon's name. Its one of the rare times in games that I prefer the playable character to be alone.

Other than the skirt, I didn't really find Ashley fan-servicey at all.

They kept it reasonably under control. There are some upskirt shots and angles focusing lady parts, but it's not something outrageous.
