Capcom The Resident Evil Thread

Seeing that Death Island trailer really shows that we didn't really get another RE protagonist after Re2, until Ethan.

The others like Billy, Jake, Helena, Piers and Sheva were one and dones.

Like I wonder if they gave us two brand new characters in Re3 - one female and one male.

Playing the RE2 remake and I really like it, need to do Claire's story after I finish Leon's. Is the RE3 remake any good? I, funny enough, never played OG RE3?
You should play it since its the neXt remake after Re2.

Seeing Jill and Carlos in modern graphiX is worth it. Though I didn't like that they changed Carlos' hairstyle. The only section from RE3R that I felt like was eXtended like in RE2R was the hospital section in which you get to play Carlos.

The rest felt like it was set in another day of Jill and Carlos being in Raccoon City. I still hate that you don't get to enter the clock tower and Jill wasn't playable in the police station.

Using Krauser in Mercenaries be like:

Finished my recent playthrough of RE7. This game is still a masterpiece from the Tobe Hooper/Blair Witch aesthetic, to loving nods to both Outlast and Amnesia, to characters and story with the bakers being my favorite antagonists in the series, and story playing it smart and not tying into the convoluted RE universe until the end. Now on to the DLC and then my first playthrough of VIIIage

I wonder if they’ll ever revisit any of those one and done characters.

Only in the remakes I think like Carlos and Ashley. I really liked Carlos, Steve and Piers. Two of those were already killed. Billy and Sheva didn't really have personality and I don’t remember if we get to play Sheva? Jake was okay but I have no interest in Wesker Jr. Helena is forgettable to me.

Anyway, I'd like to see new protagonists in Resident Evil. I feel like they dropped the ball with Ethan being faceless and being killed after two games. So they are back with just using Leon, Chris, Jill and Claire. Though Claire hasn't appeared in a mainline game since Code Veronica and I don't count Revelations 1/2 as main games.

Oh yeah, I meant not including remakes. Very long time since I played RE5 but I thought I did play as Sheva (I was playing in coop though).

I think they are pretty much done unless Capcom surprises us with Resident Evil 9.

I'm not sure if I'd call it a "surprise", honestly. They kinda imply there's gonna be a new game with Chris coming as he investigates the BSAA. Either that or a full game as Rose.

I was referring to the one and done characters who were in the mainline games, some only appeared once again in either in a remake or Chronicles. Rose isn't included since she was only introduced last year as a DLC character, well the adult version.

Resident Evil has always been about Chris and Leon. Then after that Wesker, Jill, Claire and Ada. Sherry returned as an adult in Re6 which was a nice surprise but haven't made a new appearance since then. Rebecca/Barry only appeared in two numbered games with Barry appearing in Revelations 2.

For Resident Evil 9, I want them to either use Claire or Jill or both as the lead, or introduce a new lead that we would follow for decades.

I think the last thing is exactly what they should do for two games from now. We're starting to approach (in terms of the timeline) a point where the main RE crew are approaching their 50s. If there's anytime to give them one last hurrah before doing exactly what you're talking about, I'd say that'd be now.

So I'd say let's go full circle. RE9 has you choose to play as Chris or Jill ala RE1, during an outbreak involving the BSAA (maybe even at their HQ? I'd be here for Resident Evil meets The Raid, I can't lie) to conclude Chris' story as a major operative and transition him into a Military General figure, while Jill continues on as a mentor figure. Then treat RE10 as a soft reboot, with that new lead you mentioned.

They made a wrong move with the Village ending being set like 15 to 18 years into the future. But I think its something that can easily be ignored.

If Capcom wants to, they could make about ten games (re9 to 18) with a rotating roster of Leon, Chris, Claire and Jill and I don't think the general public would complain as long as the games are good.

Though I'd like to see new lead characters while still having the old characters around. Chris is overeXposed though with his appeareance in Re7/8. Like we need to see Jill and Claire neXt before his next appearance. I'm curious about the direction of Re9. I didn't like that they killed Ethan as that could have been a character we could have followed for decades. But I also don't like passing the torch to the son/daughter of the lead character (in general), so i don't want to see Rose as the neXt lead especially with that special powers.

The flash forward doesn't really have to be ignored. All it concretely conveys is that Chris is still alive and running some type of operation. It's hardly impossible to develop a game set inbetween Village and the flash forward to essentially give the original crew (Chris included) a last hurrah as the main controllable characters. Just have him retire from active duty and take on a more Military General type role, as I said. And I really wouldn't call him overexposed, either. No more than Leon is. It makes sense in terms of the timing to do this essentially now just given the ages of the current cast. Chris in 2023 is gonna be 50, Leon's 46, Jill's 49. They're all pushing 50 if not just 50 outright. It lowkey feels like that's the grand plan with the remakes, honestly. Get these characters back into the cultural zeitgeist to make their "finale" hit all the harder. But you can still have your cake and eat it, as I said, by having the old crew around as mentor figures. Have them pass the torch that way, to the new generation.

I mean, Chris has been popping steroids for some time now....

I doubtful a reboot could be successful since Capcom failed to do that with Devil May Cry, and went back to making a numbered game. And they also refreshed our memories of the first couple of games by doing a modern take on them.

Personally, I'd like to see more Re games with a bunch of puzzles and set in a city like Raccoon City, if not a mansion set in America.

And if they introduced a new set of lead characters, I hope they don't use the older characters (Jill/Chris/Leon/Claire) as mentors and supporting characters. So they could really stand on their own and have the franchise move forward without the older characters. Anyway, they just need maybe 2 to 4 strong lead characters for the neXt several games. While the new supporting characters are probably just going to be 1 and dones like the newer Re characters.

Soft reboot.

S o f t reboot.

As in still set in the same universe, but with a new cast of characters as the main characters. And I don't see why you can't have the older characters as mentors honestly. In a lot of ways it fits their character arcs quite well, for Chris and Leon especially. They've both been exposed to so much **** in their never ending war on biological warfare, trying to make a better future and prepare the next generation for it fits perfectly with that. It gives them both the peaceful ending they deserve.

God I hope not lmao

I'm not a fanof the mentor angle in general when it comes to the older characters and passing of the torch.

Lets be honest here. Its Japan. Jill and Claire got Chi-chi'd and Videl'd.

The reboot will be the "next generation", as it were. We are going to be getting the core four's kids.

I'm about 2 or so hours into my first playthrough of VIIIage. Why didn't anyone tell me this was the best 3D castlvania? Iq went in completely blind. Didn't follow any of the marketing. I'm excited to see where this goes. Going from TCM to dracula is an interesting shift but I'm high as a kite and I'm here for it.
