Capcom The Resident Evil Thread

They failed to introduce a new main stay in the series that they could use for years. They are always reliant on Chris and Leon. Jill was relagated to a supporting character in RE5, and served as a co-lead in Revelations with Chris. Claire was the given the lead role in Revelations 2 and we know that is not a mainline game. Jill, Claire and Sherry returned in the remakes but those aren't original games. Sheva and Helena haven't been used again. Ada will never be a lead character. They had Ethan for two games as the lead, his face the entire time and killed him for good. While Rose and the ending of the Village (time jump) could screw over future games, as all of the pre-2000 characters would be in their 50s and 60s in the future games (if they appear) and I don't think people would want to see those characters in those ages.

At this point, they need to create characters we could follow for several games or in another 20 years.

Leon as the protagonist would make me even more excited for RE9 because he is the face of the 2 best games in the franchise IMO - 2 and 4. But I can also see the argument that Leon has had plenty of time as a lead and maybe Jill or Claire deserve the spotlight more. While we wait for news on another remake or RE9 I am contemplating playing RE7. It's the one fairly recent game I haven't played. Part of me want to give RE1R another go but I really struggled with the fixed camera angles and some of the dated aspects of the game. I know some people don't have that issue at all but for me coming out of playing RE2R, RE3R and RE4R, the fixed angles and jerky controls of RE1R felt really tough. I'll be the 1% of the playerbase hoping they remake RE1 again at some point but in the third person style of the other remakes. I know that would probably ruin the game for some people but I would gladly play that.

Well...

But like I've said many times before they should remake 1, Zero and Code Veronica simply because those games didn't have a third person camera perspective, unlike these newer RE games. I for one despite owning the original remake and Zero in PS4, I still haven't played those two from start to finish because of the fixed camera.

Anyway it will take a long time before we get the complete Re Engine remakes of 0, 1, 2, 3, CV, 4 and 5.

Everything I have heard about Code Veronica sounds great and I would be all for a remake of that in the style of the current remakes. I feel like CV and Zero are both a bit niche though. The big hardcore fans are very passionate about them but they're not as big in terms of sales or popularity (or accessibility) among the big masses. Something like RE5 being remade makes sense because it was a huge seller.

I do hope they do 1, CV and Zero before they do 5 though, simply because 5 still feels somewhat modern in comparison. 5 can wait another 3 years if they do the others before!

CV and Zerø might be niche. But its the Resident Evil brand and goodwill that would make those sell. The title Resident Evil Village sounds like a weird spin off game and yet it sold well. Capcom could certainly improve upon the original CV and Zerø for their respective remakes, plus Code Veronica has 3 familiar RE characters. I hope it ends up like this

2018: 2
2020: 3
2023: 4
2026: 1 (based from the article I posted)
2028: Ø
2030: Code Veronica
2033: 5

Its a long time but 4 remakes in 8 years sound massive. And they would have plenty of time to decide if they want to remake RE6 for the Playstation 6 and also finally release a third-person version of RE7.

For new numbered games:

2025: 9
2029: 10

Well, they did introduce Nathan Winters who they got a lot of mileage out of.

I think it would be cool if they trusted the good will they have created with the fans to make a Code Veronica or Zero remake to be popular, rather than going with what sold well in the past and think "it will sell well again". RE2R and RE4R went over incredibly well with most people and the franchise has gained a lot of new fans in recent years (myself being one of them) and if they did remake Code Veronica and put it out, I think a lot of people would just be like "Oh its another remake on a RE game, I liked the other ones, I will play this!".

I'll wait for a trailer to make a real judgment, but another game staring Leon doesn't interest me in the slightest and seems incredibly cynical. Village was already compromised by catering to RE4 fans, I'd rather that not happen again.

I hope the mansion looks great and I hope the color isn't washed out.

At this point, the remake for 1, Ø, Code Veronica and 5 should all be in development.

They basically have someone for most of the key roles already.

If a RE0 remake just adds an item box, it instantly fixes the biggest issue with the game.

Original RE1, 2, 3 now available on GOG.

Very nice. Always glad to see GOG doing their best for video game preservation.

I'll wait for RE2 and RE3 to be released later this year so I can get the bundle at a discount (hopefully).

Looks like the original US PC port with improvements.

The iconic classic is back, better than ever, and made to last forever. Here's how we ensured it and what you can expect with GOG's version of the game:

  • Full compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11.
  • All 4 localizations of the game included (English, German, French, Japanese).
  • Improved DirectX game renderer.
  • New rendering options (Windowed Mode, Vertical Synchronization Control, Gamma Correction, Integer Scaling, Anti-Aliasing and more).
  • Improved timing of the cutscenes.
  • Improved game video player.
  • Improved game registry settings.
  • Issue-free game exit and task switching.
  • Full support for modern controllers (Sony DualSense, Sony DualShock4, Microsoft Xbox Series, Microsoft Xbox One, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, Logitech F series and many more) with optimal button binding regardless of the hardware and wireless mode.

Our version of the game keeps all the original content intact – 1996's description is no exception. Take a trip down memory lane and see how Resident Evil™ was described to gamers when it launched all those years ago:

FEATURES:
  • Completely uncut, with even more blood, graphic violence and gory scenes than the worldwide monster hit version on PlayStation
  • A swarm of unknown horrors prowl the mansion's hundreds of rooms, including it's underground lairs, the graveyard and some unwelcoming guest houses
  • Unprecedented detail-intense texture maps, shadows and lighting effects, plus ever-changing camera angles, create a frighteningly rich 3-D environment.
  • Choose to play tough guy marksman Chris Redfield or hardcore demolition expert Jill Valentine, both brought to life with realistic polygon character graphics.
  • Ominous digital surround soundtrack features haunting music that intensifies the action.
