Captain Marvel The Rotten Tomatoes/Critic's Reaction Thread

It is just funny how everyone was saying it will be the best superhero film and it turns out to be just another film. I remember Armin of ComicBookXast saying how it will "blow Wonder Woman out of the water" it's just hilarious to see how some will backpedal when this is more on the level of an early Thor movie vs. a later Captain America one.

So? The reviews are not saying "Best MCU film ever!!!" Is that really a catastrophe if it isn't? I'll take a good movie.
Honestly, I only ever ask for a good movie. Sometimes, we get a great movie.
*Cough* Spider-verse* cough*

I'm just glad that the all-important AT percentage has been attained so that it can be used to further promote the movie. Individual reviews, on the other hand, don't mean a whole lot to me, as critics generally go by a different grading scale. Their job is to basically analyze and assess the overall quality of a film, whereas, I—a member of the regular moviegoing audience—am bound by no such constraints. I don't have to subtract points for things like editing flow, narrative symbolism or failure to pass the Bechdel test. And if I do that, it's only because I choose to. Critics, however, are held to a much stricter standard. Even if they want to give a film high marks simply by virtue of how much they like it, they're not really supposed to. There are technical factors which have to be taken into consideration as well. And again, that's not something regular moviegoers like us need concern ourselves with too much.

So go and speak to him (if you dare). I haven't seen anyone expecting it to be the best superhero film here so you're talking to the wrong people.

Are you implying I'm afraid too? Lol

Not sure where you are getting your metrics, but it is actually more on the level of a later Captain America movie vs an early Thor movie.

Armin.

In other words everyone, according to Jh7058622.
Not just him. Some were trying to compare its impact to Black Panther and its quality very early on and saying it would be a better female lead film than WW. If you don't believe me Google is your friend.

This is a great start considering this is what I believe are the shoreside critics! Once more international critics get counted, I think this already great score has a real shot of going...
Higher, further, faster!

No point giving other people stick for something someone else said. With my last order in McDonalds, they forgot the barbecue sauce I had asked for. I could go back to McDonalds to claim that barbecue sauce, or I could come on here and say everyone forgets to include barbecue sauce despite saying they will provide it. Hilarious to see how some will backpedal when I get another order with no BBQ sauce. :csad:

When did I ever say this will be the best movie ever? No one was coming in saying "This will be the CBM to end all CBMs!" Sure, plenty of us were (and still are) optimistic the movie will be enjoyable, but you're acting like the narrative was this will be TDK. I frequent all the MCU boards daily. That was never the narrative. You're trying to spin something a certain way using a narrative that never existed.

Please provide me examples. I'm not going to seek out clickbait articles, but if you want to provide me material from genuine sources, please do.

You expanded on these people who I've not even heard from (despite living in the CM boards) to "everyone". That's a strong sign of bias. I'm not interested in people who are wrong elsewhere in their speculation (not interested even if they are right). If you care about them being wrong go and laugh about them on their twitter or in their article comments sections (which you have every right to do if they have been proven wrong).

Even the good reviews tend to be very middle of the road or mixed leaning toward positive. How thrilling...

Yes, it's thrilling. Good review is good review. At the end of the day, most will just look at the percentage and make their decision about seeing it, they won't care how "middle of the road" the reviews are.

When one is just out to bash regardless, goalposts are continually moved until that bashing is once again possible. In the Avatar box office thread people kept moving the criticisms further and further afield until they were going on about it not beating Gone with the Wind adjusted. :D:
