Captain Marvel The Rotten Tomatoes/Critic's Reaction Thread

It's also a lot easier to forgive a bad/disappointing movie if it's about a character you don't care that much about.

I'd say the opposite. I'm more willing to overlook crap if it is about a character I love (although certainly not totally). I care about James Bond far, far more than I do about Fantastic Four, but I am sure less willing to forgive Fant4stic (or the Story films for that matter) than I am Diamonds Are Forever or A View to a Kill.

Since I guess there isn't a thread for critic reviews, I'll just put it here:

I agreed with Greg Alba's criticism of the movie when it comes to the script issues so their reviews were something I agreed with. But really loved that they did this video and gave zero ****s if the haters disliked their videos.

Taking the long view of the situation might help. Carol will be back on screen in one month, As others have noted, the Russos have a talent for honing in on the essence of each hero and showcasing them even better than in their solo films. There is every chance that Captain Marvel will be brilliant in Endgame, which could make you feel better about her future.

No it's not, because I have seen the movie.

I can tell when effort has been put into a movie, even if I don't like it. This movie was fluff. Filler. A movie that Marvel made just because they had to make it. Almost everything about it screams "just let's get this over with".

I don't consider AM&tW their first female-led movie since Wasp was not the lead in it, but let's say it was... Marvel's first female-led movie was even more mediocre and bland than their second one.

I'm sensing a pattern here.

That's fine you are still entitled to your opinion. It still surpassed Captain Marvel in terms of critic reviews.

I agree with a lot of what they said. As I said earlier, a lot of these movies have political messages or themes. The key is just how you execute it and not shoving it down your throat.

Yes and there literally was none of it in this.

Somewhat on and off topic, Tyrone Magnus didn't like the movie, to him it was the worst MCU film. On the other hand he really liked Man Of Steel and originally liked B vs S but changed his opinion the second viewing. I wasn't a big fan of either (mostly due to not liking the version of Superman) but that's just his opinion. But...I guess people didn't like his comments and are now unsubscribing and he's actually complaining about it...

I think it's fair to say whether you love, hate or are in between...we will be alright! :awesome:

Honestly, I've lost a little respect for how much Midnight's Edge has piled onto Captain Marvel and basically predicting it would be the next Ghostbusters and how Marvel was in crisis control over Brie Larsen.

Here is what I say, like what you like, and don't apologize for it. If you didn't like Captain Marvel, it's fine. If you liked or loved it also fine. If you didn't whatevs. Just don't be a jerk about it.

He's entitled to his opinion although I think he exagerated quite a lot. What turned me off the most (not a subscriber but a casual viewer) is the stupidity / jump in the bandwagon critic first, think later mentality in the comment section...

YouTube comments are stupid and you shouldn't take them seriously.

I am actually watching this right now.

The User "ratings" on RT are insane. So far, 48,000 user ratings have been recorded for Captain Marvel and its only been the first weekend. Wow, I guess people really felt the need to chime in on this film. Aquaman doesn't have that many to its name (only 30k user ratings) nor does Venom (37k user ratings) yet their theatrical runs are already done. But everyone really seems to care about Captain Marvel and want to voice their opinions...

It's "trolls" and bots leaving negative reviews/ratings. It had more user ratings before it was out then Infinity War does now.

353 reviews in before the end of the opening weekend. Aquaman is out on digital and has 351. Bizarre.

We'll see. It wouldn't be the first time Marvel took a character I love in the comics and made me like them less.

I've had the opposite effect, I've never been a big Carol fan going back to her Ms. Marvel days, but MCU has made me a big fan of hers. Same thing happened with Scarlet Witch, she was one my least favorite characters in the comics, and now she's one of my top 3 characters in the MCU.

I'm a huge supporter of Kevin Feige, but his decision to fire Patty Jenkins and hired Alan Taylor for TDW made me wonder if he had actually made a terrible decision. Although without the failure of Thor 2, we would never have the amazing Thor Ragnarok.

I'm pretty sure there is more to the story behind the scenes. By which I mainly mean, I bet there was more negative involvement from Perlmutter than we know.
