It also dealt with Jean and her struggle with controlling her powers, Bobby got character development, nightcrawler too etc. X1/X2 might not have been very accurate to the books but at least they had the essence of what makes the xmen great meanwhile X3 was just a quick cashgrab.

X3 isn't great but it's more than a cash grab imo

I'm having a watch of it atm and it's better than I remembered, for this part anyway

Well if fox hadn't rushed it out before it was really ready I'd agree with you.

I can enjoy X3 fine if I switch off all the franchise implications it carried through cures, deaths and the like. Killed the momentum, who knows how big X-Men would be in 2014 if X3 had followed the upward trajectory of the earlier films up with 3D and the expanding overseas BO, rather than forcing sideways movement into spinoff and prequel territory.

For me X3 is somewhat OK if I'm willing to forgive a bunch of things. Usually I'm not. But I'm not at that point yet where I pretend it doesn't exist.

From watching it now I can appreciate it better as it carries so much emotional punch. It's depressing and dour but damn if it doesn't tug your heart strings for the characters.

Haven't seen it in like three years or so, I don't think the sum of the parts make up for a good whole but there's a good few great scenes.

Beasts scenes are great. The Jean/Logan scenes, Xavier's death & Jeans Resurrection are great.

I think most else is where it falls apart. For instance Jean becoming a puppet, Magnetos thug army, wasting Angel...

For me X3 is a perfectly serviceable if I pretend that Scott just gets knocked back into the bushes and the rest of the film from then on is his fevered nightmare.

That is what happened. There was also a huge barrel of vodka in those bushes.

..and the nightmare continues, but luckily for Scott, the quality of his nightmare gets better. After "Apocalypse" he wakes up and *****-slaps Jean. That will be our Phoenix movie.

I find x3 to be a decent film that does pull on the heart strings but its because they killed xavier, scott and jean (again) in one film, totalled mystique and wiped out a tonne of mutants. there was also no mercy regarding the most famous story line with the phoenix making it some subplot to the cure.

I like it if I think its not x-men and thats because I just prefer the tone to singers films.

Completely agree with all of this.

I agree, it's kinda like a what if..

Suffers from too many rubbish characters too and some pretty clunky script writing at times. For every one thing it gets right it gets two wrong. Still like the danger room scene though :woot:

Agreed but the things it gets right are really damn good so from those I feel that while it would still come after the other four X-Men movies and Origins, it claws it's way out of Steel, Catwoman, Elektra territory and into the Spider-Man 3, Iron Man 2 and Daredevil league.

Watchable and entertaining but disappointing and frustrating.

Oh yeah its better than those first films you mentioned, its just frustrating as you know its capable of better as you say after X1 and X2, a waste of potential but yeah not without some merits. Famke is pretty good she can do split personality pretty damn well.

Origins will always be the low point to me however so its got that in its favour for me.

I've got all X-Men movies on Steelbook BluRay except for X3 and Origins. X3 is coming out soon, think I may get it to complete my collection.

I'd agree with this. I enjoy all the X-Men films...but Origins is the lowpoint for me as well.

And after watching X3 again, I can say that I do enjoy it; but it still leaves me just a little disappointed. LOVE Grammer as Beast.

My ranking:

1). X2
2). The Wolverine
3). X1/First Class (a toss up for me)
4). X3
5). XMO: Wolverine

And I remember just waiting...and waiting...and waiting...for the X-Men Trilogy to arrive on Blu-ray. One of the crown jewels of Blu-ray collection.

RT is now with 18 reviews-17 fresh and 1 rotten-still at 94% fresh.

I've been checking it out every couple hours...just keep waiting for more reviews to come in.

Seems pretty damn certian this is gonna be "certified fresh." :D

Bloody fantastic ratio. Trying not to let myself get overhyped though that trains may have passed.

It's a damn good ratio so far...If the 17 reviews so far are indicative of the rest of the press, it very well could remain in the 90s.

Spider-Man 2, Iron Man and The Avengers did...why not X:DOFP?

X3 is better now that its not the "last" movie of the franchise. Its just another flick that introduces Beast and Kitty and Angel.

Just FYI, I noticed it could drop rapidly with the next "rotten" review... Could go from 94 down to 89 with just one rotten review...Not that big a deal. Just don't want anybody freaking out if it happens :D.

It's funny how that works. Math I mean.

The different between going from 94 and 89 is fairly big compared to the difference of going from 17-1 to 17-2

I think it's just the way you're looking at it. When you're talking about roughly 20 reviews each one is going to be worth about 5%. And when you're close to 100% positives won't make much difference as it's affirming your position and it would work the same with negatives if you were near 0%.
