Damn, 2 big UK newspapers. Rest of the world is 100% at least. ;)

Edit: both top critics too.

The negative Independent review was finally added. Along with 2 more positives.

90%

Also, RT added their description:

X-Men: Days of Future Past combines the best elements of the series to produce a satisfyingly fast-paced outing that ranks among the franchise's finest installments.

Note: That description could very well change if a slew of negative reviews pile in, like TASM2.

Yeah, I noticed that. The amazing spider man 2 had a different description.

The guy who gave negative should first read source.
Comic is about future/past/future/past/...

I'm sure that guy who hates fox will give it a rotten review just because. :o

Idk forgot. He's not someone I pay close attention to.

You talking about Devin Faraci?

Most likely. :funny:

I don't think it's a coincidence that he never got a pass for any of the premiers. He usually gets them for most movies but I think Fox didn't want his review to come out earlier since there is a 90% chance of it being overly negative. I'm sure his name has gotten around as well as a lot of other online critics over the years.

You shouldn't have to to enjoy a movie. Maybe in his opinion the back and forth between timelines just didn't flow well for the film itself.

Just opinion I suppose, others have said that despite the many transitions it flows and paces well. Not everyone will agree.

He posted on twitter that he could not post his review until DOFP opening day,
Bad for him. Who's going to care about his review once they've seen it for themselves lol.

Probably alot of people who always comment on how much they disagree and dislike him, boosting his popularity and giving his site hits in the process.

Exactly.

I've seen the movie, Devin. Your words just bounce off harmlessly now.

Some critics hate everything :o

The second bad review basically says, "I'm not smart enough to follow any kind of complex plot so, I hated it."

How does this guy qualify as a top critic?

Well, to be fair, Ebert gave The Usual Suspects a bad review because he didn't understand it.

Some movies just don't click with certain people, but at the same time I feel as if they aren't actually paying attention if they find a movie so confusing.

I think that is why I so often see people online complaining about plot holes in movies where I see no plot holes.

Lol very true, I'm sure this place will heat up with varying opinions once its released, going to be interesting with all the time travel and altering of timelines what people love and hate.

I wouldnt worry too much its a UK newspaper review, I dont ever take any notice of their reviews whether it be good or bad, they seem to vary different to the consensus normally anyway. I've seen them give utter trash films like Terminator 3 and Catwoman 5/5 over the years.

They might be classed as Top Critics on RT but they are not in the same league as Empire, Total Film etc etc.

They're entitled to their view just as much as anyone and may have an influence on the GA in their area but I dont see too many Telegraph and Independent readers going to see an X-men film anyway, theyre be too busy out fox hunting and riding their horses anyway, cinema's are for "commoners" in their eye's:oldrazz:

A critic in my local Melbourne newspaper described DoFP as "first Marvel Comics movie offering that should be classified a fans-only affair", adding that while DoFP starts off with an intriguing premise the story gets caught up in a tangle and all but slumps over the finish line.

This review probably put it the harshest, but this "fans only" sentiment popped up in various forms in a few reviews I've seen, even the positive ones. I wonder if it might put off the viewers who are more on the fence on whether they want to see DoFP or not.

Yeah I think from the things Ive read it does seem that non-xmen fans might get a bit "lost" and it sort of expects you to know the backstory somewhat, unlike something like Avengers which is much more turn your brain off fun that doesnt really matter if youve seen Ironman or Thor or not really as the plot is fairly simple in that, DOFP is going to have a bit more of a complex story which non-fans might find confusing and I think the main reason this film wont be as big at the BO as that was.

But thats just going from things Ive seen and read in reviews but its a common theme. However that is good for us "fans" of course!:woot:

Heaven forbid that critics are expected to have some knowledge of, and familiarity with, the other films in the series.

However, films that are relatively superficial and simple and action-driven tend to do better with overseas non-English-speaking audiences because they don't need to understand dialogue or read lots of subtitles. X-Men has always been a little more complex. I heard a man saying at the First Class premiere that his two kids (who were also at the press screening, for some reason) hadn't really understood it.

It is possible that the complexities of the time-travel and two casts might make it seem 'too complicated' for some critics or some viewers. Especially with the number of characters they have included. I'll know more when I see it on Tuesday (fingers crossed).
