Expected that one based on their tweet from last night calling it an overrated movie.

3 rotten in a row. Damn.
But they're from writers who'd posted on Twitter about not liking it so they aren't really surprises. There's so many more positive reviews on Twitter from RT critics that haven't been posted yet so I wouldn't worry too much.

James Berardinelli (https://www.rottentomatoes.com/critic/james-berardinelli/movies) apparently didn't like it.

"Logan" and "Wonder Woman" have spoiled us by doing interesting things with the superhero genre. Sadly, the trend does not continue in July.

The Peter Parker sequences are fine. The problem is with the superhero stuff which is generic and uninspired.

That's all I have to say until I post the review on July 4.

It's very much "the same ol thing" and that's what's so disappointing. Raimi's #1 & 2 remain at the top of the Spider-Man pyramid.

It only needs two more Fresh to go back to 91%.

Yeah but on the bright side we had Winter Soldier, Days of Future Past and Guardians of the Galaxy that year.

and we have Homecoming in a week. :mnm:

Yes it was a great CBM year otherwise.

Homecoming sounds like exactly what we needed to get over the TASM2 experience (I didn't think 1 was bad).

Yep good that they're out the way now. :yay:

What I don't understand is, couple of reviewers, who have given negative review for Homecoming ,have given positive review for Pirates of the Caribbean 5...!!!

Looking at individuals' past reviews can sometimes be a head-scratching adventure in trying to find a pattern to their reviews.

Exactly what I thought. Their review pattern is so bizarre. Going by their old reviews, Homecoming should have got a very positive review from them. :whatever:

Wow it dropped a lot with the 3 new rotten reviews, should have expected this 'cause same happened with Civil War.

Or if just goes back to film being subjective. :oldrazz:

I liked the Scooby-Doo movies but didn't care for GoTG too much, as an example.

The best part of that Sad Affleck pic is Mantis. That needs to be a reaction meme.

Three of the negative reviews will probably be disagreed with here.

Scott Menzel
Spider-Man: Homecoming is better than Spider-Man 3 but not by much.

4/10

Dustin Putman
By far the most lightweight and thematically inconsequential of any and all past "Spider-Man" features.

2/4

Scott Mendelson
This is a de-facto origin story, one that makes us wait for the sequel for a Spider-Man who isn't a menace to society.

I feel like the low stakes will make it a perfect breather before Phase 3 revs it up towards its endgame with Ragnarok and IW1.

Chris Stuckmann also said in his review that the movie seemed a bit too inconsequential, so I guess Putman's view isn't unique.

I'm guessing this will end up around 83 - 84%.

Once a movie gets to around 50 reviews, it generally doesn't stray more than 5-7% from its end percentage. I feel like low 80s are unlikely unless a stream of casual critics don't like it once it gets wide release.

Mendelson almost always criticizes MCU heavily. But most often I think that he has a point and he explains it well. And I think that he wants superhero movies to be as good as they can, so I don't think he's biased or anything.

Anyway, I can see where the rotten reviews are coming from (except that 4/10 one). Luckily, this should still be a really good ride, even if there is room for improvement in the sequel. :)

It'd be funny if the MCU is the only superhero studio to not crack 90 on the Tomatometer this year.
