Like Messiah said, let Sony churn out those spin-offs and learn the hard way. I could see Venom not being a giant bomb but everything else they've got lined up sounds like a ready-made disaster.

I think there's still an inherent popularity with Venom, but I don't know if that's enough to support it by itself. Especially if the movie turns out to be garbage. But hey that worked for suicide squad.

Why is it so hard for them to understand they can just sit back, relax and collect the money later when Marvel does something worthwhile with those characters?

It's a fact. It's being run by the people who drive the franchise into the ground and almost gave it fatigue. It's a sure fire bomb plus nobody wants them.

They think they're onto something much bigger than they have. Superman and Batman have been on film for decades but we haven't had any of their villains headlining films. Doing that as a one off could work well but it's a novelty idea and not something that it makes sense to keep repeating thinking you have the basis for a universe. Sony have the rights to one character and his affiliates. A universe requires a shedload of characters with many hero characters who can interact in different situations.

Depends on the type of poster. Don't want the posters who gleefully misunderstand the very essence of the characters they profess to love to run the ship. At least the big shots in Hollywood has the excuse of being greedy opportunists.
