According to a recent developer interview, Crackdown 3 will be going back to its roots in terms of mission structure—and that means it’ll share something in common with Nintendo’s recent open-world megahit, Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
The first Crackdown tasked you with taking down three different criminal organizations on three different islands of Pacific City. You could dismantle each organization piece-by-piece by first taking down the lower-rank bosses, which would make taking down the main kingpin for each organization much easier.
Crackdown 2 still kept an open approach to missions, but you had to complete every objective in order to beat the game by activating all the Beacons and Absorption points throughout Pacific City.
Crackdown 3 will bring back the structure of the first game, though this time there is only one criminal empire, Terra Nova, that you’ll be tackling in the brand-new city of Providence.
That being said, you can skip all the lower bosses and go immediately to the end boss if you want. However, you will be taking on the Kingpin without any upgrades and with the full backing of Terra Nova buffing the Kingpin’s defenses.
You can check out Crackdown 3‘s design director Clint Bundrick discussing the game’s open-ended mission structure with Geoff Keighley for Gameslice below:
Crackdown 3 will be available on Xbox One consoles and Windows 10 on November 7th.

it might be both

Home in time for dinner.

During E3, we got a first look at Crackdown 3. Seriously, it had Terry Crews giving a sit-rep to Crackdown Agents. It was awesome, check it out.
It's now been revealed that the open-world aspect of the game allows you to tackle the game in any order you want. That means, if you really wanted to and were good enough, you could take on the TerraNova Kingpin, the big bad boss of the game, early in the game and get the ending. This would take roughly 3 hours.
crack2.jpg

Don't fret though, this is way harder than it sounds. Crackdown is all about leveling and power-ups and the Kingpin is no slacker. Starting the game over after beating it once though, allows you to play as that higher level agent.
“That’s what we’re doing internally, and we can guarantee that’s what other people will do as well,” campaign developer Sumo Digital told PCGamesN.
So in other words, your first playthrough will take about 12-16 hours, and your second/third/fourth/etc can be a speedrun. Crackdown 3 is out November 3 with the launch of the newly revealed Xbox One X, as well as PC and Xbox One. How fast will you beat it?

Terry Crews is no strangers to gaming. He has appeared at events and has made his case to play Overwatch's Doomfist. There weren't a ton of concrete details that came from the Crackdown 3 trailer that was revealed during Microsoft's E3 2017 presser, but some (including our own Cade Onder) surmised that Crews was a playable character. Just in case,
design director Garett Wilson confirmed to IGN that yes, Terry Crews' character, Commander Jaxon will be playable in Crackdown 3.
Not only that, how it happened was somewhat unusual. According to Wilson, he says that the dev team got a call from marketing saying that Crews wanted to be in the game.

"We were like, 'that'd work. That'd absolutely work.' He's a real-life Agent."
So there you go. Sometimes (a lot of times) it actually pays to be famous.

Plus how Xbox One X changed the project and Terry Crews

During E3 last week, we had the opportunity to sit down with Crackdown 3's executive producer Steve Pritchard to clear up exactly how cloud-based destruction is being built into the game, as well as how the Xbox One X enhances the game, how Terry Crews came to be a part of the project, and how the game differs from the others in the franchise.
You can check out the entire interview transcript below!
Crackdown 3 will release as a launch title for Xbox One X on November 7th, 2017.
Tom: Crackdown 3 has been in up in the air for quite a long time. I think the last time we saw you guys was two E3’s ago. Obviously, Microsoft is making a big push for this with the Xbox One X. I want to talk about some of the technologies behind it. Last time we saw you guys you were talking about accessing remote servers and using that for that total destruction of the city. Has that changed? What is happening with that?
Steve: The campaign, in both single player and co-op, is an experience where the city is important; saving the city is important. For competitive multiplayer, that’s where our cloud-based destruction sits. In the campaign, you can play on your own without an internet connection if you choose.
Tom: So that cloud-based destruction is going to be solely for the multiplayer?
Steve: Competitive multiplayer. Bringing down a city on civilians? That’s not something we want to see you do. People you’re shooting and fighting? Yeah, we want some of that stuff. So it’s a deliberate choice from a design perspective.

xbox_one_x_1497227445973.jpg

Tom: This is launching the same day as the Xbox One X on November 7th. When you guys first got your hands on Project Scorpio, did that change anything in terms of development?
Steve: It just gives us more. More power, more raw things to do with. You’re looking at a more populated city; a denser degree of civilians and traffic. We can just throw more at it. And of course, you’ve got 4K. It’s true 4K and it looks stunning. So we’ve had a great deal of fun working out just how we can pep up the visuals. How we can make it really sing as well as making it a really dense experience.
Tom: Terry Crews is going to be involved in the game. Crackdown is the Terry Crews of video games. It’s a match made in heaven. When did he come onto the project, and what’s it been like working with him?
Steve: He asked if he could be in Crackdown. We didn’t approach him: he approached us. So you don’t say no. You’ll get to play him at some point in the game. We’ve loved it! We’ve absolutely loved being with him! He’s lent a great deal of humor to the project.

maxresdefault.jpg

Tom: Is there anything specifically you want fans of the series or even newcomers to know that they can’t see in the trailer?
Steve: If you know Crackdown and you know the franchise, you know what it’s all about. You’re a super agent trying to take down a criminal organization. This is a little different to the original franchise in that the entire world you’re in is owned by a single corrupt corporation, a gang. And your job is to find them and bring them down and unlike the original game where you could go to a place and fight person X and person Y, you’ve got to discover our bosses and you’ve got to provoke them.
We have a system called 'Gangs Bite Back'. What you do there is whoever you poke and prod, they’ll respond. So you’re never quite sure where you’re going to find these people or whether they’re going to find you! So your game and my game will be totally different. It’s an exploration game, it’s a “go and kick their ass” game. But it’s “find best how to draw them out, and then kick their ass”. That’s the important part.

Crackdown 3 is becoming The Last Guardian (PS4) of the Xbox One.

They didn't want it to come out in the same year as Agents of mayhem
which most gamer news out lets were seeing the comparison's and certain gamers may like the younger game series compared to it.

It does matter when it comes out though, it'll be compared to AOM regardless. the thing that will separate this game from that game is the fact this game has larger scale building destruction still. other wise there are similarities. But AOM's humour with its characters may be received better.

Details are that they pushed it back partly due to too much competition this year during the crowded holiday season this is both from EPN.tv which goes into length about it in video and GameZone

The consistently delayed third entry of the explosive Crackdown series was officially revealed by Microsoft at their E3 media briefing nearly four years ago and the title will release on February 15, 2019 for Xbox One and Windows 10. Crackdown 3 will be also available on the Xbox Game Pass, a special subscription service that allows XO owners play selected Xbox titles on the day of release.

In the latest IGN First video, Microsoft Studios Creative Director Joseph Staten walks you through a section from a new build of Crackdown 3's all-new single-player campaign. The player's main goal in those story missions is dismantling a ruthless criminal empire that has corrupted a once-great futuristic city, forcing you to cut through gang-infested streets on foot and in a transforming vehicle.

The game's other major mode, the multiplayer Wrecking Zone focuses on destroying as many things as you can in the shortest time possible. A quick look at the gameplay footage that you can check out down below confirms that the upcoming sandbox definitely is a Crackdown game, which means that you will have a chance to ruin whole buildings, but getting rid of your opponents will be also rewarded.

Take a look:

Enter Crackdown 3’s sandbox of mayhem and destruction and become a Super-Powered Agent dedicated to Justice by any means necessary. Explore the heights of a dangerous futuristic city, cut through gang-infested streets in a transforming vehicle, and wield amazing abilities to dismantle a ruthless criminal empire. Developed by original creator Dave Jones, Crackdown 3 will deliver cooperative chaos and an all-new multiplayer mode where destruction is your ultimate weapon against friends and rivals online. Whether you’re playing the all-new Campaign or enjoying a truly revolutionary competitive experience, you’ll never look at open-world gaming the same way again.

Crackdown 3 will release on February 15, 2019 for Xbox One and Windows 10.

CRACKDOWN 3's Campaign Will Last More Than 15 Hours

Crackdown 3 is almost upon us, the game will hit the Xbox One and PC on February 15 and has now revealed its campaign length. Microsoft Game Studios creative director, Joe Staten, spoke with Gamesbeat about Crackdown 3's development.

Staten has revealed that the game's campaign will go for 15 hours, a longer length than the first and second title in the franchise. The campaing will be the mode for players who are just looking for a way to kill time and follow a story.

He also spoke about a different mode called Wrecking Zone, where players can just jump in and wreck havoc across town. This is for players who want to compete against other people, the competitive mode of the game. This new mode uses Havok physics and cloud computing, here is the director talking about the benefits of this.

The thing that’s interesting from a technical, developer point of view–I’m really eager for other developers to take a look at this and see the one interesting choice we made, simulating destruction in the cloud. Smart developers can say, “Well, what could we do?” There are clearly things you can with animation, with AI, with machine learning. Bigger player arenas, higher player counts, you name it.

I hope people will look at Crackdown and think deeply about other novel experiences they could do with their game. Microsoft has big expensive data centers all around the world. [laughs] We have harnessed a fraction of that power for this one experience.

Crackdown 3 is the first game that uses this type of cloud computing technology, no title that uses this tech has been announced yet. Crackdown 3 will hit the Xbox One and PC on February 15.

An island "paradise" in the grip of corporate psychopaths, gangsters and butchers, New Providence is home to the highly-secretive and exceedingly-sinister TerraNova Worldwide. Built around the smoldering heart of a volcano only recently and mysteriously reignited, this mega-corp is exploiting every resource in the area – material and human – as they prepare for the next phase of their diabolical plan… and brace for the inevitable showdown with The Agency.

New Providence is under fire from TerraNova Corporation and only you can save it from a blackout on the 15th of February when the long-delayed Crackdown 3 finally launches for both Xbox One and Windows 10. The explosive sandbox will be also available on the Xbox Game Pass, a subscription service from Microsoft that allows Xbox One owners play selected Xbox titles on the day of release.

Crackdown 3 was made by Cloudgine, the company that specializes in cloud computing to Unreal Engine, Ruffian Games, the creators of Crackdown 2 responsible for the multiplayer mode, and Sumo Digital that developed the single-player campaign. The game will also feature the Wrecking Zone mode, giving you a chance to annihilate the competition in Crackdown 3’s fully destructible environment.

In its fast-paced launch trailer, we can take a closer look at core gameplay mechanics, mostly focused on ruining literally everything you can see. In this futuristic city, you will cut through gang-infested streets on foot and in a transforming vehicle that will surely make "liberating" New Providence easier. Crackdown 3 is just around the corner, so be sure to take a look at the sandbox down below:

thanks, man.

well, I finally found some more vids that do show off all the agents.

and man, what a disappointment. there's no real "agent creation" at all. you just select from preset characters, with preset names, and preset "perks." and of the 21 agents, 15 or so are locked at the start of the game, and you have to unlock them by their "dna" throughout the world.

but none of the agents look interesting or appealing to me. the preview vids have all been underwhelming to me and the reviews all seem to be mediocre at best.

so, I think this is going to be a hard pass for me.

After a lot of time in the oven, Crackdown 3 comes out half-baked. The world isn't much to look at, and unless you're really hungry for a co-op action game, have Games Pass, or miss the series terribly, there are much more impressive, recent entries in this genre. it's a shame that a mediocre game like this gets released after several delays, but a game like Scalebound get cancelled outright.

was Scalebound in such a bad state that it had to be scrapped? I guess so.

but releasing mediocre exclusives like Crackdown doesn't look good for MS and Xbox. especially when there are hardly any other Xbox exclusives releasing this year. no wonder MS didn't really promote Crackdown 3 that much.
