i agree Joe, he said focusing more on Peter and Gwen as their relationship. He cutted Woodley scenes because he didnt want to make triangle, as having Gwen-Peter-MJ together in movie interacting together or knowing each other which make movie more complicating. I am giving him credit for that because this movie is already complicated. Another reason he cut Woodley is that maybe wont be free for ASM3 and ASM4. So he completly cutted all of her scene to introduce new actress, who will certainly apper in ASM3, ASM4, and maybe in ASM2 as cameo. She doesn't need to know Peter or establish relationship with him in movie, she could make some scene as cameo where someone calling her from distance "MJ, hold down!" and she turn around and say dont call me MJ, my name is Mary Jane Watson, or something similar. Some cliffanger or easter egg would be nice. And then in ASM3 you can introduce her properly with Peter and scene "you just hit the jackpot."

He said he cut her scenes to to streamline the plot and focus more on Peter and Gwen, implying that MJ does not appear in the movie. I don't know why people are freaking out so much about this, having rewrites and such while in production isn't exceedlingly rare. I'm sure there'll be reshoots or have already been reshoots to cover any gaps that could be left in the plot if MJ had some impact on the overall plot.

People are freaking out because most are assuming that Shailene being cut from ASM2 and possibly having been recast has to do with than overwhelming idiotic response to her casting and set pics months ago, when that couldn't be farther from the truth.

It completely has to do with the fact they've locked in ASM3 and ASM4.

1. Because they no longer need to introduce MJ right away (they have an extra film to wait and DO IT RIGHT.

and

2. Because, even for ASM2, they couldn't/can't guarantee Shailene's complete availability for the films, and they'll need that when MJ becomes a lead (which she'll now be from the get go). Shailene's commitments to Divergent, and its almost inevitable sequels, clash with her commitment to the ASM series

Truth is they could get Woodley back to shoot a cameo, its only a small scene and no one knows if this that new movie she is in will be a hit

Woodley basically got told her character wouldn't be needed this film it sounds like

Many are obsessed with the idea they got rid of her to replace her

Seems like a lot of people are just using whatever excuse they can to psyche themselves out of seeing this movie. It's just movie, hope that turns out well, and if it doesn't oh well, because it's just a movie. I don't understand people who go out of their way to throw crap at a movie or make side comments about a movie that they haven't even seen yet. It's only been until recently that we've even had the optinion to get as much details about big movie production as possible, so every complication or anything percieved as such is blown out of proportion, when I'm sure a lot of people's favorite movies that came out a few years back probably had bigger issues that they just don't know about.

Oh well at least we know they got reshoots out of the way now. The garage and waitress scenes can probably just get deleted without reshoots. She only had 3 scenes, so there is no reason to worry.

I think whatever the issue was after deleting MJ is solved since they seem to have movie on already with filming.

We don't know 100% but it looked awfully similar. Shot at Peter's house, she's looking for Peter, he's not there, so she's talking to Aunt May on the porch. Gwen's hairstyle and outfit was the same and she arrived at the house by a yellow taxi (same as MJ scene) I don't think she'd do this twice in one day.

I'll be honest. I'm glad for more Aunt May. If we have to hold off on MJ for more time with May, that's a fair trade for me. :nods:

Well that is awfully similar. I doubt they would have two scenes with Gwen taking a cab to Peter's house, wearing the same outfit, and there is no Peter in sight. Then she happens to bump into someone instead.

You can see crew members in the shot behind Emma as she's walking back to the cab, so I don't think they're actually filming at that point.

Ok here's the latest from The Toronto Star:

Gadon, a native of Toronto and rising star in Hollywood, confirmed to ET Canada that she had joined the Spider-Man franchise. This sparked rumours that Gadon scooped the role of Mary Jane away from Woodley for the upcoming films, including a third in 2016 and a fourth in 2018.

Gadon was not available to speak about her role, according to her representatives, who would only confirm that she has one.

“That’s all we can say,” her reps told the Star.

A Hollywood source told the Star that Gadon is not taking over the role of Mary Jane, and has only a brief appearance in the next movie.
