The Seven Samurai remake

Clooney? Is Sodenburg involved as well?

If so, then this movie will at least be good. I have yet seen a collaboration with those two that's gone wrong.

You didn't see K Street or Solaris, did you? :down

Well, it's general knowledge that George Clooney is LETHAL with a katana, right?

well, anyone would be lethal with a katana. even Buster Bluth.

K Street, no. Solaris, yes. It's one of my favorite movies, as a matter of fact. :o:up:

Ok, I agree....but this is Buster you're talking about.

Tobias: ...."Anyhoo", this needs someone with katana skills...

*Buster grabs katana and starts slashing away, getting rid of some lamps, a candle and some liquor bottles, then runs out of the house*

5 minutes later...

Buster: You mean....skills like THESE?

...this news is just wierd, to be honest

Yes Darthwalker- "The Magnificent Seven" was horrible.

Everything Hollywood does is bad.

It certainly was. But it had a great cast. Not even Ocean's Eleven/Twelve equals their caliber.

WTF?!? Now they're stepping on sacred ground!

1. Other then the concept of the story, what else was taken from the Seven "SAMURAI" in that western? You didn't see them running around in feudal Japan fending off evil doers did you?

2. It wasn't even 1/10th as good as the Original. So in concept it was a failed experiment. Leone was much better at stealing.

And I never said Hollywood was bad. Gone with the Wind is pure Hollywood and I love it to peices. But the idea of taking something that isn't built in that manner, and attempting to make it such never works.

Actually Mr. Serenity, it had Charles Bronson, Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Robert Vaughn, James Coburn and Eli Wallach acting together.

So no, it was NOT a failed experiment, it's one of the greatest american westerns ever.

I know what opinion is and all, but there's a line for stuff like this!

Jesus wept

I am not saying I don't enjoy it. I do. I think it is a great film. It isn't the Seven Samurai, and isn't in the near it in quality.

Look at "To Have, and to Have Not". Great film and one of the best US films of all time. But it is still a sad attempt at recreating Casablanca. Even with Bogart there.

And when you say one of the greatest american westerns, I must question that. Sure it is all opinion, but you should pick up the Wayne/Ford collection coming out very soon. Every film in the collection is pretty much better then this. Then there is Wild Bunch, Unforgiven, about five James Stewart films, High Noon, Butch and Sundance, Shane, and the Outlaw Josey Wales. But hey top 20 isn't that bad.

Pffft, I didn't know TH&THN attempted to be a Casablanca remake, but who knows? Edit: <=== LOL you're right, I went to read about it since it's been years since I saw it and I don't own it, but you're right I guess.

Ok, you actually have pretty great taste.
Wild Bunch, Unforgiven, High Noon, Butch and Sundance, Outlaw Josey Wales, High Planes Drifter, Tombstone, Mag. 7, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid = All
And speaking of Pechingpah, The Killer Elite =

EDIT: The only John Wayne western that I've seen and that I have to add to my list is The Searchers.

Love High Plains Drifter, but maybe not as good as the Mag. 7. Also perhaps failed experiment was going to far. Not it was, I admit.

But have you seen "To Have and Have Not." It pretty much is Casablanca. From the guy sitting at the panio, to the bar, to Bogart the rebel not wanting to get involved, to the whole war effort tie-in. Though I can forgive all of that just because of how much I love watching the two leads go at it.

As to the Wayne films Seachers, Who Shot Liberty Valence, Rio Bravo, Fort Apache, and Stagecoach for me easily take Mag. 7. Fort Apache for me specific is great.

I forgot to mention I also own The Alamo, which I love, but it's not technically a western.
I just ordered TH&THN on DVD

You should really enjoy. Pretty great film, even if it isn't the most original.

You guys need to see "Once Upon a Time in the West".

I have seen it, love it. Probably in my top five of the genre. Only problem is that I am pretty sure it wasn't an American Western. Which is what we were discussing. :)

Only problem is that if you show it to someone expecting something more like the Dollar series they are in for a rude awaking.

I don't what the point is of remaking a movie that is basically perfect, but I'll watch anything with Zhang Ziyi in it, so.......

You guys know that Pamela Anderson's "Barb Wire" is remake of "Casblanca".

Hey- there've been bad remakes (Barb Wire), good remakes(The Quiet American), and remakes (though rare) that are much better than the original(My Fair Lady).

It is too early to jump to highly cynical conclusions.

And you know what really fries my potater!

When they that film "Glengarry Glen Ross" from that American play "Glengarry Glen Ross"?
Um...your post made very little sense to me, but Glengarry Glenn Ross was a terrific film

The Weinstein Company has tapped screenwriter John Fucso to write the script for the studio's remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1954 classic The Seven Samurai.

The film is one of a trio of Asian classic remakes that Ziyi Zhang is in negotiations to star in for The Weinstein Company.

While the action in "Seven Samurai" takes place in 16th century Japan, Kurosawa drew on the American western for inspiration. And many of Fusco's previous credits are drawn on that genre, including Hidalgo, Young Guns and Thunderheart.
