:S

I'm actually interested in the anime and the sci-fi versions.

I watched it and loved it.

Thsi is who the Seven Samurai should be.

1 Jackie Chan.

2 Jet Li.

3 Chow Yung Fat.

4 Ken Wantanbe.

6 Robin Shou.

7 Jason Statum.

These are the only actors you know that do marital arts isn't it. :csad:

Yeah. I think I'm gonna check it out at some point.

they made a sci fi video game based on 7 Samurai last gen...it didn't do very well, hehe.

so i just saw this for the first time last night and i gotta say that...even though i want to see this movie in color, i honestly don't want to see it remade. 1 of the big reasons is because Toshio Mifune (played Kikuchiyo, the unlikely samurai) did such a great job that he's basically this movie's equivalent to what Heath Ledger was to the Dark Knight and i don't think any modern actor could act the way Mifune did. he was, by far, the most interesting character of the movie and it would be near impossible to find an Asian actor that could pull off the kind of emotions and intensity that Mifune did.

...Most successful April Fools Day topic yet?

haha...nah, this thread was made a while ago (June 06).

oh snap.

personally id like to see a remake but I don't know about Clooney belonging in it.

They should just do a remake of Magnificient Seven, which itself was a remake of The Seven Samurai.

a remake of a remake!

I read a script of the remake of Seven Samurai called 7 Samurai and it featured NO JAPANESE CHARACTERS and it took place in THAILAND. Each Samurai came from different countries and the suckage ensues.

Director has been chosen.

British helmer Scott Mann has signed on to direct a remake of Japanese pic "Seven Samurai," which is being produced by the Weinstein Co. and Japan's Kurosawa Prods.Pic, which has an estimated budget of $60 million, will be a contempo interpretation of the 1954 original.
It centers on a town in Northern Thailand that recruits seven paramilitary contractors from around the globe to defend it from an imminent attack.
Mann, who most recently helmed Robert Carlyle and Ving Rhames starrer "The Tournament" -- which gained cult status on both sides of the pond -- will help TWC develop the screenplay, which they hope to shoot later this year.
Scribe John Fusco ("The Forbidden Kingdom," "Young Guns") has been also been developing the project at TWC for 18 months.
Mann recently announced several projects in development under his expanding Mann Made Films banner with U.K. producing partner James Edward Barker, including horror pic "Saint Mary's" with helmer Michael Bassett ("Silent Hill 3D") attached.
Mann is repped by CAA and Independent Talent Group.

Could be cool. But everyone is going to b*** about it though

I should be pissed that there remaking one of Kurosawa's masterpiece, although nearly all his movies are masterpiece but I'm not. I love the hell out of True Grit, The Fly, The Thing, and I am excited for the Robocop movie. Although The Tournament was a stupid movie and the chances of this being terrible are high.

Sounds cool.

I think I mightve had a problem had it been a direct remake but its basically following in the footsteps of The Magnificent Seven, so as long as the script is good and the actors are good Ill check it out.

Remakes nowaday can be either good or bad, most do fall on the latter though. I love Seven Samurai so I for one wish that they don't move forward with this but I'll try my best and keep an open mind on this.

I was actually hoping that this remake will just collect dust but now that this is moving forward, I'm actually don't know what to think about it. I love The Seven Samurai, there is not many films that are flawless and it is undoubtedly one of the finest films ever made.

Though I will try to keep an open mind to this, mainly because the Weinsteins are one of the best film producers today. But if the remake turns out to be bad, I could just simply ignore it.

Moving the setting to Thailand is pretty sweet.

The good thing about this, like with all remakes, is that the original will get more attention and more people will see it than would have if the remake were not made. Watch how it will go to "very long wait" on Netflix like the original True Grit and Arthur did when those remakes were released.

So remakes really are a good thing.

I agree, the only good thing I could really see coming out of this, is that more people will finally watch the original and, of course, superior film.

I'll watch it. I don't see the problem; this movie has been remade countless times already: 4 Magnificent Seven films, a Magnificent Seven TV series (in some ways, a little closer to Kurosawa's film than John Sturges' was), Battle Beyond the Stars, the Samurai 7 anime, Bug's Life, Sholay, etc.

If they want to basically do the Expendables again but with the 7 samurai story, then all the power to them. I hope they have at least one Asian character in the hero role though: I'm a little tired of the "white Americans liberate helpless Oriental backwater" genre.

Tony Jaa would be nice.

This sounds like a 1990's DTV movie. Here's what the cast should be:

Gary Daniels, Billy Blanks, Jeff Speakman, Olivier Gruner, Michael Dudikoff, Don 'the Dragon' Wilson, Loren Avedon and Sasha Mitchell.
