The Shawshank Redemption appreciation thread

It's so overrated that it's not even funny! It shouldn't be called greatest movie ever cause there is no such thing. Sure i use to like it but now that it's almost on every friggin' TV station and can't take it anymore, i prefer "The Green Mile" and i also believe "The Godfather" is a better movie then this.

Just wait for Cyrusbales to come in here anytime now with that pretentious attitude of his racking on everyone who thinks The Shawshank Redemption is one of the (if not the) greatest films ever made to be cinemtacially ignorant who needs to watch more films.

The dude owns the American Ninja trilogy. Therefore he is already pre-owned.

for one- the goodness of other films, doesn't take away from the goodness of this one.
two- no one is comparing this to any other film.
three- make note of what I bolded.:o

^I hate the word "overrated."
Why does everybody f***ing say that damn word? It's just a new label to put on anything that is praised that you they don't like.

:whatever:

As to the movie, I love the movie.
It's one of my favorite movies, and it's a very fine movie at that.

I love this movie. I saw it at a sneak preview screening about a month before it opened, loved it and raved about it for weeks (I'd also read the original novella). Then it officially opened and sort of tanked initally at the box office. Thankfully it was re-released at Oscar time and started to get the recognition it deserved. Still one of my favorites.

This is one movie that everyone I know (in real llife) likes.

*Kind of feels like getting needles and shoving them in the director's fingernails and gums like on "Masters of Horror's Imprint"*. I just like "Green Mile" a little better then this and there is no such thing as a "Best movie ever".

Even though I may never have one movie be my undisputed best/favorite movie, it is nothing but an opinion to be the "best movie ever." It's like saying we can't call our favorite friend the "best" friend.

My favorite.

I watched it the day it was released and watching it again on HBO and on DVD made me appreciate it even more.

The Shawshank Redemption is one of my all time favorite films.

This is indeed a great film.

It's definately one of the few I feel the need to sit and watch everytime I happen to catch it on TV.

BUMP

The narration by Morgan Freman in this movie was excellent. He has a wonderful voice. This is my all time favorite movie and I recommend everyone to see it. Truly beautiful. Great performances. Horrible that they didn't win any award. Really...that's a ripoff.

I really love this movie but I'm probably the only one that likes The Green Mile better. That movie almost makes me cry everytime I see it.

One of the best films in history. Great acting, great story, great direction, just perfect all around in my eyes. I have to say though Brook's scene was the most moving and saddest scenes in the film. I felt so sorry for him because it showed just how broken he was and how he was more comfortable in prison than in life.

You often wish he would've done something so he could've gone back to Shawshank and be happy. But it just shows how broken down a man can get after being in a defeated state for so long.

Just aching to say it's a mediocre, sentimental, predictable, edge-less, crowdpleaser of a movie.

I won't though....;)
