Homecoming The Side-Villains: the Shocker and Thinkerer thread!

Not a fan. Definitely hoping for a more classic looking Shocker rather than a hoodie with a yellow ski mask.

That's my issue with a lot of these fan made redesigns. It's like just a suit isn't "grounded" enough or something because everyone tacks on puffy pants, jackets, hoodies and the likes on him.

The classic suit is good as is.

Not when there are still tons of people who want Magic Rubber Mask GG.

You say that like it's a bad thing. Or impossible. Check the Marvel Knights costume by Terry Dodson and tell me it wouldn't work!

There's no reason we can't have a suit that's not goofy while also being faithful to the comics. Look at Spider-Man, Thor, Cap, Black Widow, etc. for crying out loud. It doesn't seem right that the Green Goblin from Spider-Man 2002 is still the best Goblin suit yet.

Agreed on the Shocker. I want the whole deal. It's slightly goofy-looking if you want to argue that, but it's a perfect comics outfit and the practicality of it explains away any design critiques nitpickers might have.

None of which has the slightest bit to do with the problem: rubber masks don't work that way. If you give him a look like that in the movie, it can't be because of a rubber mask. It can be a mutation, or some kind of high tech holo-mask. Not a rubber one.

The various heroes you mention are 100% irrelevant, because none of them have a "rubber" mask that somehow magically acts and moves like living tissue.

I liked what was done in the Spider-Man 2 video game from 04 as well. His legs/pants were still padded but all brown. Nice update and makes it a little less cheesy IMO.

Well, obviously I don't mean the mask has to be rubber or nothing. I just meant I trust the MCU's ability to bring us a well-adapted Goblin when the time comes. And rubber in MCU doesn't have to behave like rubber in the real world if we're being honest. It could be a lot like Malekith's face from TDW. Or even creepy-*** face paint. Idk.

I want a high tech mask, not a hologram one though. I think, with some creativity, they could make a high tech mask resemble the comic book mask a lot and make it feel right.

The worst thing would be if they make him a mutated monster ala Ultimate Gobby.

Shocker's costume is already one of the more realistic ones in general.

They change Shocker's outfit and we're gonna have problems. Vulture's change was drastic enough, no need to lose 'ol pineapple head either.

Plus, I know the "SPIDER-MAN" videogame did it but I would love Spider-Man to call Shocker 'Quilted Pete' or Quiltman. I want to see him rag on his outfit. And then when Shocker makes a bad pun like, "Shocking wasn't that?" Spider-Man can come back with a quick quip of his own, "Ugh. Please no more bad puns, Pineapple Head. Otherwise, this will turn into 'Batman & Robin.'"

I don't know about you guys but when I look at that concept picture I see the Vulture. It's not that far out in left field where you can't tell what villain Spidey is fighting. Let's not exaggerate. :whatever:

This is my sentiment exactly. I was shocked to see so much hate for the concept. Looks absolutely fine to me.

You can tell who Spidey is suppose to be fighting here too:

Doesn't make that or this design any less terrible imo.

I also would love if they adapted the more ''conterporary'' costume:

What is the source on this? I still prefer the original tbh.

Exactly. We knew we weren't getting this:

Heh. Didn't think about it that way, but not a bad point.

Would we actually be able to identify that as a Green Goblin without the glider? Methinks not.

And if some pointing fingers (not directed at you) actually cared to read the thread/sentiments, they'd know we didn't (or at least most of us didn't) want some old geezer in long-johns with wings.

With the last two having a swap of green and white as opposed to red and black

That said, the current Vulture we have is so drastic it's crazy to think how anyone can even expect Shocker in all his pineapple glory. Some of the defending I've seen from this just makes me shake my head. "He still has green, he still has wings, etc. He's still Vulture."

Sure, but by that logic:

And I liked this suit, but come on.

It's not at all surprising to see those who have claimed for months how Vulture is a lame, uninteresting villain are the same ones praising this new design. I can only imagine how the tides will turn if we get this for -- say -- Mysterio?

Oh, his face is obscured so he's still Mysterio. :o

Ehh, Mysterio is a little different IMO. Heʻs supposed to be hokey. Itʻs his schtick. And I wouldnʻt be opposed if they updated/changed his costume some (certainly not digging that fake concept art you posted though).

While I understand the idea behind your Vulture posts, I really think those are still a little too fantastical to come off in the somewhat (and only ever-so-slightly) grounded MCU at least costume-design wise. I like the addition of the bomber jacket, not big on the blue circles in the wings, and I donʻt hate the mask, especially assuming that it wonʻt be on much of the time Vulchie is on screen. So I donʻt love or hate the concept art for the movie, but Iʻm certainly not mad it. I didnʻt expect a straight-up adaptation of the Vulture purely based on Malekith and other Marvel villains. Some designs just donʻt translate to the big screen--(like red hair and green eyes--IʻM KIDDING!!!). Regardless of my lame joke, I understand why some concept artists/producers/etc. decided against a Vulture costume closer to what you posted. I wouldnʻt have minded it, but I really am intrigued by the concept art and the idea that it will look more classic and appease more once we see the Vulture sans helmet in the film.
