Ready for a channel devoted to nothing but "The Simpsons?"

Don't laugh, it is one idea News Corp. Chief Operating Officer Chase Carey threw out when speaking Tuesday at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media Communications & Entertainment Conference in Beverly Hills.

Noting that "The Simpsons" shows no sign of slowing down as it prepares to start its 23rd season on News Corp.'s Fox network, Carey said the company is starting to have internal discussions about how to create additional revenue streams for the animated hit that goes beyond reruns on TV stations and DVD sales.

Any effort at creating a platform just for "The Simpsons" may have to wait for the show to stop producing new episodes. Because the show is still in production after more than two decades, the rerun deals done years ago are still in effect. Once the show ends, so-called second cycle sales of repeat episodes can be sold. Although some shows might seem stale after 20 years, "The Simpsons" continues to be a solid performer.

Carey said there have been a "number of meetings" to determine how to capitalize on its library of episodes of "The Simpsons" and he mentioned a digital channel featuring nothing but Homer and the gang as being a possibility. Carey said it is incumbent on the company to take advantage of a show that is "unique in television with a volume too that is unprecedented."

I would watch the hell out of this channel.

I wouldn't quility spin-off's. Saying that though, very bitter about the under-rated subtle satire of King Of Hill getting the boot for crapstick Cleveland show. Awful show. At the moment the Simpsons isn't what it use to be imo. King of The Hill kept it's heart and soul all the way through. It's very much like the early Simpsons episodes that was mostly about the little mundane stuff.

So, would this channel have new episodes or would it only air reruns?

Damn it. Had Phil Hartman still been alive, we might have been able to see all of the projects Troy McClure would have done:

Speaking of which, if this network happens, I'd like to see a marathon of episodes featuring Hartman as McClure and Lionel Hutz.

Well, considering it says the likelyhood of this happening would depend on the Simpsons actually going off air, I'd bet reruns. Could they really do that?

They could eventully do a cable station devoted to Simpson reruns. After it finally ends
production but I don't see it going off anytime soon.Despite critism from some new episodes continue to get ratings.Come december The SImpsons will be on 22 years.
A channel with reruns would allow you to see It go from being more bart centric to more
Homer centric. And at begining Homer actully had some Intelligence.I feel it could almost be subtitled The Misadventres of Home today.Of course I am not complaning about that.just making a fact.

i'd definately watch it. especially if they air episodes from the first 10 seasons :woot:

This better happen! I am counting on this. There is nothing on most of the time.

Oh I would totally be down for this!!! Late nights could be reserved for Futurama too! :D

Fox/News Corp. would be much better off (especially in the long term) with creating an all (generalized) animation channel with The Simpsons (a whole Simpsons channel just seems, way, way too niche and redundant for its own good) as the "crown jewel".

Agreed. I'd watch an all-Simpsons channel, but no one show has enough episodes to warrant an entire channel on its own.
