Maybe for you, bro. I wouldn't want everything to be shown in the trailers, but the general public need a little nudge to convince them that this is the movie of the year. Action is the key. By your standards, we shouldn't be shown anything at all - seeing as the first two movies were ruined because of the trailers - for you. But well, they did very well in the box office, and dvd sales were through the roof, so I guess the problem only lies with the minority. Anyway, back to the discussion at hand.
mez, this is a slight overreaction..
there is nothing wrong with teasing people with action, but in this day and age, the footage they are using to sell films is simply far too much...
whole battles are being used to advertise films, i mean the last stand used over 14 minutes of footage in its attempt to draw in crowds, 14 minutes is a lot.
What is the point of releasing over 10% of film footage in order to sell the material when no more than about 3 would suffice if done correctly.
Besides, it's spiderman 3, they really don't need anything more than a name and a gimmick to sell this film. and the new costume provides more than that, Plus venom and you have crowds hooked.
Pirate's manages to bring in crowds without flooding people with released footage, why do superhero films think they need to do the same, expecially the larger budget ones...
I mean look at ghost rider, that isn't showing virtually any battles in detail and it gets its trailers across perfectly, so does 300 and also transformers...
I think you are taking the lazy approach like most people in advertising that thinking that alluring people in with lots of footage (especially battle stuff) is a good thing because it just leaves people feeling anti-climatic about the film since they have already seen it all (just like iceman's icing up and battle with pyro which i thought was simply highlighted in adverts but was actually shown in full with hindsight leaving me feeling disappointed with my viewing).
it's not good and most likely won't lead to repeat viewings where real money is made
no one is saying spidey is at this stage yet but i fear with so much time to go that it may reach around this point.
you only have to compare it to spidey 2 which only had one villain and there were very limited scenes with ock in any of the adverts and hardly any of them fighting at all, if only two clips repeated over and over...
with this you can pretty much tell whats going to happen in the story, scene for scene and there are plenty of clips of sandy and pete's fight as well as pete against harry with only the big brawl at the end being left completely unseen.
