Far From Home The Spider-Man Costume Thread

Suit looks great imo, at first I thought the white spider on the back looked weird and different but it's growing on me. Love how it borrows elements from different suits like Amazing Fantasy, Superior Spider-Man, Miles, Spider-Man Earth 667 and that scrapped suit for the Sam Raimi suit that Alex Ross made.

Yknow I gotta say, while I don’t hate any of the Spider-Man suits we’ve seen on film, the MCU suits have definitely not been my favorite. I admire them trying something different, and I liked the mask at first, but I think I prefer the Raimi suits.

Really? Looking back at the earlier Raimi costumes, I don't think they hold up very well. The sharpness of the eyes, the raised webbing, just don't look as good to me as the new costumes do. The new costume really looks like it came from the pages of a comic book.

Are both of these supposed to be bts pics? The top one is an Alex Ross painting. The bottom is really good cosplay.

Looking at those photos, it looks like they darkened the lines that make up the webbing to make em more prominent. They probably really pop on camera.
I saw an up close comp between the HOCO suit and this one -- and it seems that they improved the material for the red fabric as well. Let me see if I can find it...

Here you go. You can kinda tell here the make of the material is different.

Also, they made the red torso area slimmer a la the ASM2 suit.

More of the suit material comparison. I think FFH’s suit material is much improved and is actually “photo-ready”. The materials look more “Hollywood-ized”. Just gotta wait to see how much they tweak it via CG. HOMECOMING used quite a bit and some sequences were just full on digital.

Close-up, the difference is clear. From afar the red material is still throwing me off.

I wonder if Watts and Co were inspired by Marcos Martin’s art. He seems to like Red and Black Spidey.

They should use the same material for the Fantastic Four suits. The Tim Story movies were bad but I have to admit the uniforms were translate nicely from page to screen.

So is there a consensus?

I like it. Yes, even acknowledging that it's not the classic colour scheme.

As in, I like it for a change, and I certainly like it more the awful thing from ASM, so I'm perfectly fine with it.

It also makes me curious for if there is in movie an explanation for the change.

The first time I saw this new costume, I was like "meh". But now I'm really, really digging it. Can't wait to see it in action.

For its time it was so beautiful. The raised silver webbing and it’s shiny look fit so well in the early 2000s. It was a great suit and I’ll always love it lol

The Raimi suit will always have a special place in my heart but the ASM2 costume just makes it look “dated” to me, for those exact reasons.

To each his (or her) own, but I just don't think they've aged all that well. The Raimi costume kind of looks like something you'd see at an Universal Studios or 6 Flags. And I didn't dislike it at the time, it's just I think the MCU costumes look better, albeit with some unnecessary details.

Hey everyone, my first post here. More of a lurker than poster, but I just wanted to say:
These two pictures show exactly why I personally prefer the Raimi suit over the MCU suits. The Raimi suit was notorious for having literally hundreds of revisions and time taken to make sure they got it right before the release of the 2002 movie, and the result really shows. Even though that picture isn't of the 2002 suit (which had bigger eyes, skinnier + more reflective webbing, and a different front/back logo, honestly it's my favorite version of a live-action Spider-Man suit), they made a very good effort to make sure the suit looked good in both motion and in photos, and it shows. Every single intricate detail of the suit is always visible and noticeable no matter how he's framed into the shot, and it has the details where it is needed. I understand not everyone is a fan of the raised webbing, but if I'm being honest, the only time I thought not having the raised webbing looked fine was with the ASM1 suit (which I don't really hate, I think it's a cool design), because with that suit it was depressed, which still gave it depth and visibility. With the MCU suit, his webbing has this 3-d pencil art effect which looks okay in photos, but it's so freaking thin and light that in motion you can barely make it out, especially with motion blur and a lot of other CGI stuff thrown in. As a result, half the time Spider-Man looks like a red and blue (or black, I'm guessing for the FFH suit) blob with no real detail or texture in motion. It's also why I like the sharp, raised eyes of the Raimi suit, because it makes the mask have a stand-out detail without being redundant. Also I don't know if this is just an actor issue, but the MCU Spider-Man suit makes it look like he doesn't have a nose half the time, like look at those shots up there.

I like the MCU suits, a hell of a lot better than the ASM suits, but the Raimi suits are still #1 by a far margin to me.
I think ASM2's suit is super overrated, mainly because the eyes make Spider-Man look obnoxiously derpy with certain angles (like with the camera looking up at him), and I never was a fan of him having ovular eyes to begin with.
That's just my two cents though.

The Raimi suit is still boss.
Yep, that's the 2002 suit. That is, to me, still the best Spider-Man uniform on the big screen to date.

To be honest, I don't understand how some users and fans in general could call this suit "dated". The only dated thing I could think of with this, is that it's not CGI'd at all, but how does that make it dated? If you took this suit and made it stand next to the MCU Civil War suits (specifically Captain America's), it wouldn't look out of place at all.

I've never been a fan of the raised webbing, but it worked for the trilogy. The first Spider-Man movie will always be special. The 400M DOM speaks for itself. Adjusted for inflation it's around $635M today. Great childhood memories, as a 10 year old that will always stay with me. I still remember the very day my dad took me to see it.
