Kevin Nash Discusses The Samoa Joe Shoot, Hall, His Critics, More

This past Monday on Wrestle Zone Radio, Chris Cash and Nick "The Man of 1000 Names" visited with Kevin Nash in a rare, exclusive interview. A ton was covered in this near-hour long discussion with Big Sexy including Samoa Joe and their current storyline together, Scott Hall, Konnan, the Against All Odds pay per view, his critics, and much more.

It didn't take long for Chris Cash to dive into Nash's current storyline with Samoa Joe. Nash started off by explaining how it began as a shoot between the two after Joe "went into business for himself" after Hall missed the pay per view. However, they sat down afterward and talked and now they're closer than they were before.

As far as what actually took place that night with Joe's "shoot" promo, Nash said that he thought it was stiff while it was taking place. Then, afterward, he confronted Joe and asked if it was given to him by the office of if that was his own words and Joe admitted to it being his.

"Immediately, I was hot," Nash continued to explain, "what he did was basically take, kind of, what they gave him in a nutshell and embellished it,". The office told Joe to go out there, be angry, and basically put the heat on Hall and take it off the company. However, no one told Nash it was going to take place and he was hot over it.

Nick continued on how their storyline has progressed by asking if the "shoot" type of story telling was needed in TNA. Nash felt it was needed in wrestling in general. "If I was a little younger and healthier...and we would have went out there [the ring] and cut a promo and went to blows the following Thursday on the show," Nash said, "then went right into an angle between he and I, but when we had the first match, Scott showed up and screwed him...it takes the reality aspect of it and makes it a work".

However, Hall wasn't available and Nash made a joke about how Joe probably didn't want to carry him in a 20-minute match, so they decided to go in a different direction - a direction that Nash credits the creative team for writing. "They really have some long term plans for Joe," he revealed. Rather than have he and Joe fight immediately, they are laying out an alternative plan that, in their minds, be better for Joe's career in the long run.

Conversation finally changed and they started talking about how the women have been doing really well. Nash praised them for their hard work and while comparing them to WWE's women division, joked about how a pay per view where Kong and ODB had a pillow fight simply didn't fit. This did lead to sad, yet breaking news, that Awesome Kong's mother just passed away. We here at WrestleZone.com would like to send out our condolences to her and her family.

The "Internet Wrestling Community" comes up, of course, and how a lot of them get disgruntled with TNA's current product. Nash explains how you can't book for the "smart marks" because they do not make up a large enough percentage of the people watching the show each week. If you book for them, he says, you'd go out of business. He also mentions how Ring of Honor was having money problems, so you can't cater to those types of fans.

Nash's personal critics came up and he mentioned how it was easy to "hate a giant". He then explained how you can hate him "double" due to the fact that he's good looking and as you're hating him, your woman wants him. "I'm not the easiest guy to like," he admits, "on top of that, I'm very opinionated and say what's on my mind". The bottom line, according to Nash, is if you don't like, he really doesn't care.

They put it on sci fi because sci fi is owned by nbc/universal, same as USA and its a male-centric channel....from what I read smackdown was one of the higher rated cw shows, I dont understand why they wouldnt want to keep it there, it basically let them free up 2 hours of tv time every week

My main worry is if they merge it with ECW. ECW has had low ratings, they already pretty much mix SD and ECW like crazy anyway. I hope they don't take the next step and just fully merge them, because ECW's ratings keep getting lower, I doubt Sci-fi will renew the contract when it comes up, and they won't have the CW to fall back on either. Fox would probably be ok for SD, tho I haven't tuned in to Fox for ages.\

I'll be suprised if NBC catches Smackdown, especially with American Gladiators.

I can see USA and possibly even Fox (syndication on FSN alternativley?) giving it a go.

If they wanted to push WWE TV (does that still exist? that 24/7 channel on some dish and cable networks?) they put it as exclustivity there and encourage a spike in purchases for it like NBA and NFL did with there networks.

But who knows.....

haha, they should just give Smackdown the Impact timeslot. The funny thing is, they could switch shows in the middle of an episode, like go from Stone Cold Shark Boy and cut into the middle of an Undertaker match on Smackdown, and it would still make just about as much sense as a normal Impact episode.
