The Superhero Cinematic Civil War of Tomorrow Thread - Part 62

Yeah, people lamenting the relative lack of billion dollar grossers are kind of missing it - this is what a more healthy box office looks like.
Yep. And we probably still have a couple of those to come with Avatar and Zootopia 2. Wicked for Good probably even has a chance.

I think the ceiling for Wicked is in the 800mil's just because international interest in the property ain't there, but those other two are guaranteed so barring any major surprises, this should end up as the biggest post-COVID box office year yet.

Also, I just saw Grant Morrison said Gunn's Superman was more like their Action Comics Superman than their All-Star Superman.

Totally get you. I'm far more selective myself these days. Demon Slayer isn't the best, but when it's on, it's probably the closest to prime DBZ.

Dandadan is my personal favorite though. It's very me.

Have you seen Frieren, Darth?
I really recommend it if you havent...it is a beautiful series with beautiful themes, too.

I first watched it because of the all time masterpiece of the ending song (which performed by milet, my favorite singer song writer😊)

Its the most beautiful song that I've ever heard. (truly a divine song!)
I listen to it everytime and it lingers in my mind...and I liked how the ending song remained the same throughout the 28 episodes of season 1, because "Anytime Anywhere" played at the end of each episode, making the worldview and the message of the series were more memorable and stayed with me.

Seriously, I don’t even know what that cartoon movie is in those pictures.

Takes a nerd to know a nerd, sir :sneeze:

All I’m saying is that in my day, those cartoon movies were distinctive.

IYKYK.

Sidebar, but this Demon Slayer success is going to give Hollywood more ideas. They’re just about to bleach and ruin Gundam soon. 😭

Was this the best comic book movie year since... 2017?

Superman - Went over well with critics, fans, and made money.
F4 - Went over well with critics and fans.
Thunderbolts - Gave us film snobs something worth seeing.
Demon Slayer - Critics and fans loved it, is the second highest gross 2nd animated film of all time, and has is breaking down borders for anime.

Still got Chainsaw Man to go.
2018, 2019 and 2021 were pretty good years for the genre. Hell, I'd even throw 2022 in there just for The Batman alone.

If 2023 was a year of fatigue, this was definitely a rebuilding year for CBMs.

I felt it in 2022, Thor 4, She-Hulk, Multiverse of Madness, Black Adam. Batman is the exception; the character always knew how to reinvent himself.
