BvS The Superman suit Thread

1. The potential changes to the MOS suit would probably be made due to the first movie's story requiring the initial changes. Also, first movie's design is different from what Snyder wanted to use. With the story freedom to use, one would expct he would.

Is it? I haven't read or seen anything suggested he had another look in mind.

I just don't understand why they need to tweak anything just Why ?

It may be a request from Larry Fong about the fabric of the suit. The metallic look must have been a nightmare to shoot (the suit looks different depending the lighting from a scene to another). Or it may be some colour tweaks.

Wouldn't mind the suit's colors to look like it did aboard Zod's ship.

Snyder has said this in a interview, but I'll reiterate:

Snyder very much wanted to use the classic look, trunks and all.

And there are several concepts with it.

However, in the end, it just didn't fit with the idea they crafted for the story that the suit was of Kryptonian origin, and that everyone wore them on his world.

So we got the new suit.

But as I said before, they have the freedom this time around to go for something more classic, or even visually closer to the New 52, if they desire.

Keywords: If they desire.

Because make no mistake, it was Snyder's choice in the end to lose the trunks.

Ah yes he did say that. I can see them revamping the belt, maybe experimenting with putting an \S/ on the cape. But the trunks don't need to be added, the suit works without them. And it is the best superhero outfit I've seen.

I still hope they at least shorten the cape.

I agree. The trunks don't need to be brought back at all (though I wouldn't object if they went that route).

I just want something that feels more....... Superman.

I like the MOS suit, but that dark, washed out color palette and alien garnishments just doesn't feel like Superman to me.

Or at least, doesn't feel ENOUGH like Superman.

Brighten the colors and bring back the cowlick. The suit is 95 percent perfect as it is (only thing I'd change would be the emblem, either brighten it up or black it out). Though a slightly shorter cape doesn't sound bad.

I think Snyder's grading hurt the tone/look to the film. Either he was trying to aim for Nolan's slightly-washed out aesthetic and overcompensated, or he was just being himself in the wrong context. ALL his live action films, except for DotD , were desaturated, but they had the advantage of Larry Fong's brilliant handling of contrast and shadows, so it was more subtle
.

So they didn't look hazy and muddy like MOS did. When the color is pulled from otherwise naturalistic photography, it looks off.

I'm against colorization (with a few exceptions, such as something intended to be filmed in color, or a restoration of color to decaying film, etc) but I wouldn't mind if someone resaturated MOS in a decade from now :cwink:

The MOS suit is powerful and majestic. I have really fell in love with it and is about as close to perfect as you can possibly get to re-imagining one of the most classic elements to a timeless pop culture legend. I say, stick with the basic elements of the MOS suit that made it so amazing but go after the fixable things for A.) the actor (fabric) and B.) the visual pallet that pops out on screen. I can see the tweaks being a more comfortable fit for Cavill to maneuver in and a much, much vibrant blue that would stick out more that gets Supes even more noticed.

I'm not sure how people can say that the suit looked "too alien." Especially when you consider that certain comic storylines had Superman either receive his suit in the rocket, or made his suit out of Kryptonian materials. The whole point of the suit is to be ethereal and other-worldly.

Here's a version of the suit I'd like to see.

A wider neckline
Red belt with yellow thin but raised metallic outline
A brighter blue.
The hair parting the right way, with a hint of a spitcurl.

I ask that question all the time about Nolan's and Bale's Batman. I am team Keaton here.
Ah yes Keaton's Batman, or more accurately, The Punisher in a Bat costume. That's more Burton's fault than Keaton's.

It could happen.

Let's not forget......... these WERE Snyder's original ideas for the final suit:

And the differences are small enough to count as just...... a tweak.

So..... nothing is impossible.

And I'm with you. The meltdown would be glorious.

Wow...are those real? I'd have loved to have seen any one of those. I like them much better than what we got. 2 especially. Wish they'd ha e stuck with one of these.

Really...?
Still going on about how the trunks could be in it?
Guys come on...Snyder tried hundreds of design with trunks but couldn't get them to work, so there is no way they will be in the new movie..stop thinking it. Seriously, it's prety stupid.

More like WB said don't do them I bet and that's the story he just goes with..."they just don't work...even though they have worked for 70 years". Yeah. Bull****.

Dean Cains New Krypton suit worked well in movement. I mean look at one screencap while he's moving is going to make it look odd. And no one gave the CR suit any flack for it's wonky S.

The praise for Keaton? People liked him and may prefer his portrayal to the other guys. Everyone has their favorite.

Now on to Supermans suit. I think we all need to remember that what looks good on a comic may not work in real life because colorist can cheat. They can use whatever blue and red they want and have it maintain that hue in any light. CR's suit becomes pink in brightly lit scenes. You also gotta keep that thing clean.

As we have seen, the Man of Steel suit is much brighter in real life. Also they are never going to make it baby blue, so get off of it.

I would like them to try to re add some sense of the red shorts. The suit just stops working in the groin area because there all this empty canvas. It needs something to break up the Torso and Legs. But then again this may be the issue with how dark it looked in the movie.

This.

Thank you.

It doesn't have to have such a tremendously detailed reason for being changed. Really, it's very simple.

The changes being:
Brighter blue
Yellow S on the cape.
A redesign of the waist area to make room for a thin red belt of some sort.

Clark and Lois can clear this up in a short and simply conversation, which could be done right at the beginning of the movie after a tremendously fantastic opening sequence.
On their way to the Planet, after Supes has quickly changed back to Clark and is discussing what just happened with Lois and which one of them will get the "Scoop" on this one.

Lois: Good job. People are warming up to you.
(smiling) Love the changes the changes to the suit by the way, looks less....alien!
Superman: (Contently) Exactly.

That simply line "People are warming up to you" Explain so much of what took place in MOS, and how some people might still be blaming Superman for what they know or may not know was an inevitable confrontation between Supes and Zod.

It's not to imply in any way that he's distancing himself from his heritage, but just that he's a citizen of Earth now and wants people to see him for what he's trying to do. Because let's face it. The current suit, ( And I really must stress that I DO like it, a lot) It's so dark and metallic looking and that's generally not very terrestrial in appearance and I wouldn't put it past Clark being concerned that the second people see him they will immediately think " ALIEN", which he obviously is, but Earth is and always has been his home as far as he's concerned and his appearance needs to reflect that. It's not any more complicated than that.

How about they don't acknowledge it at all and just treat it matter of factly and never make mention of it? I'd be cool with that... Let it be as undeveloped as everything else in MOS.

I'd like to see that. Nice job. Something like that's exactly what should be done if they stick with the basic MOS design. Belt area looks much better and I'm glad those stupid lines all over it are gone.

EDIT: The stupid lines are still there in the picture but match the rest of his suit better and don't stand out as much. Was on my phone and could not see as well.

Even though the groin area still looks blank as **** without the "trunks", which help break up the suit a lot, IMO, this is a step in the right direction and an improvement.

Also the "s" curl would be nice to see, which is another reason why it's important his hair goes slightly to the left (especially if they try to part it), so the curl can look like a letter "s" (another thing Returns got wrong - if the curl is on the right there is no "s" with it, just a pointless curl - and yeah, I know it's been drawn that way in the comics sometimes, but it looks the best on the left side and makes sense...like there's almost reason for it; left looks like a letter "s", which is why he should wear it that way, right doesn't look like anything at all).

I think what they have is sufficient, but that's just me.

Whatever they do, dear god please don't let them add a collar. That might be the single worst thing about the awful New 52 "armored" suit.

I can see the wider neckline coming into play immediately, without a doubt, but I think adding red to his waistline just for the sake of adding red is a bit corny lookin'. The way the suit is designed, adding red to that type of style and waistline is overdoing the tweaks. I think the amount of red already mounted on the costume is PERFECT. I can totally see adding more gold on the waistline and going more of a black within the "S Shield" where the yellow is supposed to be and going more of a much brighter red for the "S" with a nice, vibrant gold-trim forming around the shape of the shield....kind of like Earth-One (as regards to the gold-trim):

superman-earth-one-volume-2-cover.jpg

For me, making the red in the suite a vibrant glow (S, cape, boots) is all that is needed rather than adding it to the waistline for the "trunk" effect. It's just too much givin' the design. If anything, a red-shading to the wrist gauntlets would be cool, but nothing major.

Hell no to red on the gauntlets. The only way to make the MOS suit worse than it already is is right after giving it a collar you give it red on the gauntlets. Superman shouldn't even have gauntlets in the first place and then you want to go and add red and make them stand out more? No thanks. Worst idea for that suit (after a collar...possibly tied with it).

I don't know what would be worse, bringing the trunks back or trying to use the new 52 costume which is one of the worst superhero costumes I have ever seen.

I'm betting we'll see a brighter yellow/gold on the "S". Like maybe he cleaned the suit or something.

I expect that, within the story, he'll be getting a new suit.

One that retains elements of the MOS, but a new suit.

Let me answer that for you: Using the New 52 suit would be worse.
