Well, that's disappointing. They didn't even need to change the suit's colors itself. If you watch the film and adjust the settings on your TV, everything and everyone looks a lot better.

Here's a recap. Basically someone asked him on his Twitter about the possibility of getting a more colorful sequel. Larry just said "No".
I don't buy this. They're not even in post-production to say that. And also is this the official Fong's twitter? I don't think he has time or was permitted to say these things in that time especially with the secrecy surrounding the movie.

Yep, his official twitter. These things are usually set in stone well before filming, and it's not one of those things that's bound to secrecy. All he's saying is it'll roughly look the same as the first film. Nothing big there, albeit disappointing.

Wow, that sucks. The dim, bluish, washed out filter is part of the reason why MOS came off so grim.

A great alternative is the way they shot the upcoming Godzilla. There are no color tints and it has deep shadows. The colors are still natural, red is red and blue is blue. Really wish they went with that instead.

My eyes are going to hate this.

Since they're tweaking Superman's suit, maybe they will change the film colors to make it a bit more colorful, it should be interesting with other characters involved, specially WW.

Well, Larry Fong did say that there's no way that they'll be brightening up the filters for the film. Take that for what it's worth...

He was pretty blunt about that. Boo....

I'm with you. Was really hoping for brighter colours to contrast Batman and Superman (and partly so that people can shut up about overhauling the suit when you see it in its natural colours). Ah well.

I'm in agreement with most people here, in that I don't want to see any major changes. At most, just subtle changes, such as slightly brighter colors, or even accept the yellow sign on the cape. But no significant alterations to the suit. As some pointed out earlier, it makes no sense- this is a Kryptonian suit left from his family.

On a slightly related note, would any of you want them to bring the curl back?

This would imply that he couldn't get a brand new suit all together.

I just want to know how he puts it on. I hope it's not under his clothes. I want to see something a bit more creative than that.

Someone told me to try that out and holy crap does it make a huge difference when you dial up the saturation. The ending looked worse/more obvious CG but the suit and the Smallville scenes looked so, so much better

Well I gotta admit, that was depressing to hear/read. I guess I'll have to boost up my saturation levels on my HD TV when I get it on Blu-ray.

He's been kicked right off the brownie list. I just don't get why he would cling to those under-saturated colors. :BA

I'm still hoping for an improvement, regardless of what he said.

Between the color filters that Singer had chosen for SR and the ones that Snyder had chosen for MOS, which would you guys say is your least favorite one?

MOS was worse for me, but I really, REALLY don't like the 1940s gloss aesthetic that Returns and the first two Raimi Spidey movies had. If MOS2 has the color palate of TDKR I'll be a happy camper.

That's likely Snyder's call. I have an inkling this desire to present the franchise as mature and grounded directly resulted in the washed out tones. There's a (misunderstood) notion that brightness and color directly correlate with campier affairs.

89 and Returns versions of Gotham were actually heavily inspired by the 1920's German expressionist films of Robert Wiene and F.W. Murnau.

There's a nod to Murnau's Nosferatu with Walken's Max Shreck being named after the actor who played the eponymous vampire.

The 40's aesthetic was more Timm's deal because it was reminiscent of and aimed to be a bookend piece to the Fleischer Superman cartoons of that era.

Frankly, he's ******ed if he thinks like this. The Battle of Smallville showed how downright AMAZING Superman's suit was when it had brighter colours.

I meant Superman Returns (as was the topic), not Batman Returns. But thanks for the history lesson (not being sarcastic, thanks)
