The Superman Suit thread!

I still find myself puzzled on how Tom Welling's Blur Jacket (the Dark Trench Coat) reportedly costed around $1,000 to custom make when I've seen several better tailored/designed trench coats for much cheaper prices.

Maybe a matter of needing special properties for filming? Like, designing the coloration so that it doesn't go funky under odd lighting setups, tailoring in special ways so it moves properly during stunts, etc.

Honestly I don't mean to be an ass but I had no idea what cosplay was before this thread so I Googled it and it's unbelievable how fans with time and money can come up with costumes that are a million times better than this piece of junk seriously what was their budget on Supergirl for this $750?

Cosplayers have a lot more time and a lot less variables to consider when it comes to making their costumes. That's not to say that poor or ugly costumes in film and television shouldn't be criticized or improved upon, but you can't compare cosplayers and costume designers, because they don't work under the same conditions.

Cosplayers can throw as much money and time into their endeavors as they want. Costume designers operate under a deadline and a fixed budget. Cosplayers usually only wear their outfits to parties or conventions, where they will be exposed almost exclusively to natural lighting. Costume designers have to worry about how materials will look behind the lens of a camera, what shades will mesh with the cinematographer's aesthetic, how lighting conditions (natural or otherwise) will impact the way the suit will look on screen, etc. And perhaps most importantly: a lot of cosplayers design just the one costume and are done. Costume designers have to design several, which eats into the budget and imposes limitations that us fans often don't think of.

I'm not seeing it. The Cavil suit in these shots looks both darker and more rubbery. Its not very appealing.

You guys are still posting those pics of Tony Blair as Superman? One would assume this thread pertains to Cavill's costume.

Well they look darker because it's a dark scene. Rubbery? Yeah the spandex of days past just won't fly anymore for me personally.

But yes folks, back to Cavil and not the other guy.

the materials could be cheap. the costly is on the designing and tailoring service.

great job photoshopping it. But man, he does not have the frame for Superman. I know the guy is very fit and muscular but none of that matters if you don't have the Superhero frame.

it should look okay in action.
i just don't like his look. he is the type of "bad boy" good looking guy.

I guess I could also post this here...

Cavill posted this close-up of the Superman suit on instagram with the hashtag Superman. It's nothing, but I love the details on the costume.

I don't think it's nothing. That part near the bottom is Kryptonian writing.

The suit is probably organic. Superman have been buried without sunlight and that's why the suit is black. Looks really cool.
