meh her significance in the series falls well below that of Lionel, Jonathan, Martha, and even Lois.... I just find it odd that they try and make her some sort of equal with the big guns when in fact her character is really just a bit player in the series with no impact on the mythos.
There's that slippery "mythos" again.. :)
I have to disagree. I think Chloe is a big part of this particular branch of the "Smallville" mythos, moreso now than in prior seasons actually.

Frankly ever since they brough Lois in, she became pointless, as that was her niche on the show to be the "Lois like" influence in his early life....
And I'm having concerns about this going down the road of becoming the Lois & Clark Show, part two.

wtf, Chloe pwnz j00
edit: She seems pretty important to me also, seems like she will be the inspiration for Clark to become a reporter.

I dont think her knowing the secret makes her that integral, as just about every FOTW and about 6 or 7 other people like Swann, Crosby, etc have known Clark's secret. Other than that I really dont see how she impact's Clark other than being an annoyance who pines for him even though she knows she cant have him, and then gets mad at him for liking Lana?

I think Chloe's finally moved past that point now. More than ever, she is reserved to being Clark's friend. I don't think she's the jealous character anymore. That was really a misstep with the character that second season. Fortunately, she's grown a lot as a character since then.

I have to agree with those statements. Ever since Lois was introduced Chloe's character and importance to the world of Smallville has declined. In fact it appears as though the writers are splitting what we know as Lois from the comics into two characters on the show, Chloe & Lois. If they decided to mature Lois' character further I believe that Chloe will just simply go the way of Pete.

WHAT? There's actual discussion about the show in here? The Talon is supposed to be for off-topic stuff, like pissing and moaning about SR! :p

Heehehehe. J/K. ;)

I agree. If they wanted to show that Chloe was still obsessed with Clark in that way, they never would have had her be completely honest with him in Blank. In fact, she could have really taken advantage of that situation if ya think about it. ;)

Which is exactly why she always bugged the crap out of me in prior seasons.. but I have a lot of hope that the character has moved beyond all that and that she's finally put her feelings towards Clark (and his feelings for her) in proper perspective. I guess they could still throw us a curveball on that one, but I don't think they will.

ROFL!!!!

Seriously. who is that woman?
I dunno, Ms. Tessmacher's replacement, maybe? The dog just killed me though. First thing I thought of was Sharon Osbourne and her pooping mutt. Guess they're going for comic relief after all. [shrugs]

That my friends is Kevin Spacey and Parker Posey as Lex Luthor and Miss Tessma... er... I mean "Kitty Kolowski." And it seems the villains are once again the comic relief in the story. It's a shame too really. Especially after all the effort Michael Rosenbaum and John Glover have put into depicting the Luthors on film.

Spacey looks like Telly Savalas which was my fear. Personally I always wanted Lex to look like he did in Superman TAS, except for the drawing part of course ;)

Good point...

I think Rakumon is right, she's moved past that silly goo-goo eyed obsession with Clark.... she wants to be his friend now, and it's 'bout damn time.

I think Chloe is important to the show for many reasons, but probably the most practical one is that now she knows Clark's secret AND Allison Mack has a gift for delivering expository dialogue in a way that is totally pain free, so I think her storylines will get bigger.

Maybe she'll be able to do more of the scooby gang kind of investigating with Clark again that used to happen more often in the first two seasons...

I kinda miss those kinds of storylines. The last couple of seasons she's been stuck in the Torch being Clark's human search engine.

Rarr, she is his inspiration for become a reporter at the planet dammit!! and a sexy inspiration she is!

Chloe is an interesting, fun character that is well acted and alot of people really like her. The show needs to move along and be entertaining it's not just a bio of Clark Kent. Her worth doesn't need to be measured that way for her to be an intergal charater to the show.

Hold down the Fort guys.. I'm going to be scarce for a while again, but I'll be back. :)

Remember.. Don't feed the trolls! ;)

Here's an interesting tidbit from the latest ish of Wizard:
Alex Ross on "Superman Returns"
"I look at [Brandon Routh's] costume as a series of choices that are the complete opposite of every choice that either I or other designers have made in the last 10 years. The really tight neckline where the collar is; the small symbol opposed to a larger symbol. I think [director] Bryan [Singer] made these choices based upon, 'Let me try these things because it's different.' Clearly not what I would have envisioned."

To play Devil's Advocate for a moment, I've often wondered how much creative input Singer had in the design itself. Obviously, he's the director, and if he says "change it," or "it's perfect," then that's the way it is and the costume director does as instructed. But I'm wondering if that silly design has/had more to do with the costume director trying to do something different than it did Singer.

Then again... Singer IS blamed for the changes made to the X-Men costumes (not that THOSE were bad - I LIKED *those* changes), so maybe he told the costume director to "update" the Superman costume too? Who knows? Just wish it wasn't the Superman costume they were "updating," but if it HAD to be done, that they would have chose a more tasteful route. Ah vell. :(

Considering how much A&M have been vilified for making so many "changes" to the mythos, it will be truly ironic if *their* version of the iconic suit - if they actually do it - will make fans happy. In fact, seeing a Reeve-esque scene with Welling flying out of the FOS in the costume just like in the original Donner pic would be the ULTIMATE ending for SV fans. Yeah, THAT's how it should be done. There'd be more emotion in that little scene because like the film, it represented the moment of transformation. Those are the kind of amazing things you lose in an established Superman show or film. Even if told in flashback, it's just not the same as seeing it culminate after five (or more) years of gradual build-up and character development.

Anyhoo, I agree with Ross. Big surprise there. And I have to laugh at the thought that the comics might adopt the new design. Hee. Uh, yeah, I think Ross would rather gouge his eyes out with a fork than draw the suit looking like that. ;)

The interesting thing about this is that at San Diego, when asked about his influences in approach to Superman, Singer mentioned Alex Ross as a big influence on the look of the character.

I also found that rather odd. Was he trying to attach himself to Alex Ross even though he's made it painfully clear he disapproves

Perhaps Singer just used the wrong words because CLEARLY, there's zero "influence" to be seen in the design and colors of Singer's suit, not to mention how Ross draws Superman himself.

Meh... I've given up on trying to figure out who is being honest and who is just brown nosing in situations like this. The distinction is always a fine line, and usually a pretty fuzzy one at that LOL.

PS: Raku, I totally spaced on those BR scans last night. My bad. I'll try to get to 'em this weekend.

That's cool! Do you also know which Loeb/McGuinnes issue of Superman has the panel with three kids who are obviously a nod to Pete, Clark and Chloe?

(Maybe this should continue in the "Welling influence" thread?
