of course he is. Because you say he is, then its so. Good logic there. I seriously hope you're not over 12 years old...

The thing is Superman can be relatable ie. Lois and Clark and Smallville the thing is the movies try to make him too super and alien. But I think Superman Returns did show him as kind of relatable with Lois I mean I can relate to that you love a girl but she's with this guy who she seems to love and you don't want to do anything to upset her.

well hell if BALE said it, then it really must be true. I mean Christian Bale knows everything about everything.

Anyone who honestly believes that someone becoming Batman in real life is a realistic possibility is delusional fanboy who cant separate his fantasy from reality. The fact that the character lacks superpowers still doesnt make what he does any more plausible.

Like every character its a suspension of disbelief not many people would have that kind of determination someone would try and see how hard it is and forget about it.

except of course the reason she was in love with someone else in the first place was because you up and left her for 5 years without telling her, to go look for something that your infinitely intelligent father told you wasnt there in the first place. Then you came back out of nowhere and pouted about said girl moving on....

Found this interesting article online about the lawsuit and the evidence DC is using to prove that Superman was a work for hire.

Their evidence seems compelling, but more interesting are some of the interesting tidbits on drawing style and limits DC wanted to place on how Lois, Clark and Superman were drawn.

Most interesting are the documents linked to in this PDF file:

Amazing what terse and angrily worded letters those people sent each other...

LMAO!! It's the never-ending debate. (I wonder if Squatlow gets a similar chuckle from seeing the same conversations occur despite the length of time between his log-ins?)

Anyhoooo..... I love it when Jack pipes in.

The one thing I will say, however, is that a show like Smallville doesn't last for as long as it has merely on the partial support of a so-called "divided fanbase." In order to be that successful -- have you checked out the DVD sales history? -- and this goes for almost all comic book film adaptations, something about it must be appealing to a general audience in widely dispersed demographics. And clearly, this interpretation of the property is continuing to appeal in those ways -- you don't get renewed for an 8th year, with practically no mention of it being the "final year," without the longstanding and continuous potential for making large amounts of green...

And Hulk, being green, knows what I'm talking about... :word:

One other thing I will say: Whether you may know it or not, there are a lot of people in "the industry" and the public who were/would have been/and still are very interested in taking this property to the next level... Though it may seem less likely now, that doesn't mean that a lot of people haven't seen the synergistic potential there...

A divided fanbase is not the be-all, end-all, my friend...

I'd venture to say that this incarnation of the character won't be "forgotten about" anytime soon...
Yes, I have, and SMALLVILLE is rarely out of the number ONE spot (and #2, and #3, and #4, and #5, and... well, you get the point) on Amazon.com's "Most popular items in Superman" list.

I just had to add my two cents... or a link as it were.

One month and counting....

:yay:

Random thought...

You know how some people like to criticize smallville for supposedly taking elements from other shows and using it for an upcoming season. Well than I finally paid attention to the new Heroes season. Beware of Level 5, were villians may lurk. Hmmmm that sounds really familiar...

OK Im done ranting know!

Heroes has been ripping off other material since it's inception. They basically borrowed their entire first season storyline from The Watchmen.

has anyone seen mummy three yet?
god awful... miles and al jesus christ they've stolen two hours out of my life.

yes the mummy 3 sucked. there wasn't even a mummy in the movie.

It sounds like a great idea for an AU, but from the way it's being presented across three series it doesn't seem like it will be.

I guess I don't understand the point, I hope it doesn't "stick".

I don't look forward to that story. It has the potential to be a disaster along the lines of Donner writing for DC.

I think thats a terrible idea.

initially yes, but if Geoff Johns is writing it, you've got to give it the benefit of the doubt.

I wouldnt go that far. Geoff Johns is a comics writer through in through. Donner was a guy who a Superman film 30 years ago that had never written a comic before.

I don't doubt he can make it a compelling story, but the very idea is just...wrong. Why would they change it now after 70 yrs?

anyone else see this article with all of the Superman comic writers coming out against Superman Returns and how they'd do a reboot?

Some good stuff there. Those guys GET IT.

“‘Superman Returns’ didn’t work for a lot of reasons,” Grant Morrison said.

“I so wanted that movie to work,” said Mark Waid, “but every choice they made in that movie was wrong. If you’re making the movie in a vacuum, and there will be no other Superman movies ever again, go ahead and give him a son. But otherwise, that’s a staggeringly awful idea. What are you going to do next? Either the kid has to be a part of his life, or get superpowers, which no one wants to see. I want to go to them and say, ‘What were you thinking?’”

“The idea was to make an American Christ figure, but what they centered on was his weakness,” Morrison said. “They made him more a lamb of God, rather than give us a real powerful Superman. They had too many scenes where he’s being kicked to the floor, and that’s not Superman. Superman would get up and fight.”

So these comics book writers are getting up and fighting too. Both Morrison and Geoff Johns have pitched the film studio on how to reboot Superman — properly reboot him, as if “Superman Returns” didn’t even happen.

interesting timing with Mr. Johns wouldnt you say?

To understand Superman, Meltzer says, you have to know why Superman was created in the first place — because a young Jerry Siegel’s father was shot and killed in 1932 (a fact first uncovered by Gerard Jones in “Men of Tomorrow: Geeks, Gangsters and the Birth of the Comic Book”).

“Superman was created not because America is the greatest country on earth, not because Moses came to save us from Krypton, but because a little boy lost his father,” Meltzer said. “In his first appearances, he couldn’t fly. He didn’t have X-ray vision. He was only bulletproof. So Superman’s not a character built out of strength, but out of loss.”

Dont think many people know about this

They said everything I couldn't quite articulate, thanks for posting that. i do hope they get it right one day. Superman deserves the right actor to play him and a good strong story.

Right actor, indeed.

Certainly everyone's entitled to their own opinions, but every time I see a comment saying that they should reboot the next movie but keep BR, I cringe a little.

I wish the guy well, but damn... he really was a big part of the SR being a lead balloon, and even with a fantastic script, I hope like hell that they recast.

It doesn't even have to be Tom - although, you know, depending on script, etc... IDEAL. ;)

I hope they reboot it. Start from scratch. maybe an origin movie again.

QTF

I have no ill will toward Brandon, but he just wasn't right for Superman.

If they do a reboot, I hope they recast the part...

juts sign TW for superman

even christopher reeve what u call "passed the torch" to TW in seseaon 2

I got a question.

Lets say season 8 is a good year. We get want we want from character develops, to action scenes, to suspense/drama, to guest appearances. Halfway through the season, the ratings are much better than the previous seasons and the CW is looking at this. They give Smallville a thumbs up for season 9. So seasons 8 finale ends of a typical Smallville cliffhanger with everyone in danger.

Roll around the Summer and the CW folds. What happens to Smallville? They end if with season 8 by canceling the show and no one get an ending they want?

it's possible another network may want Smallville. The same thing happened to Scrubs. It used to be on NBC but now it will be airing on ABC. Same with Buffy I believe. It used to be on WB but then UPN picked it up. I'm sure another network will pick Smallville up if CW does in fact fold. I don't know about the other shows, though.

I guess so... I would think it would go to a station like Scifi or mytv
