god, he's way uglier in person, he has these bug eyes. The old Graphic Designer here used to black out his face everytime she had to work on a piece featuring him cuz he looks so disturbing in photos (and in person) sometimes. this one is a professional photo, so he doesnt look as bad in it.

I spent most of my time in Bosnia-Hercegovenia, but did venture into Croatia on a few ocassions...I think. I was over there from late 1994 (at the ripe age of 19) to early 1996 as part of a UN Peacekeeping force dealing with Milosevic and his goons. I was part of light infantry based out of Ft Collins, CO.

People here think they've lost faith in mankind now? You havent seen anything until you've seen "ethnic cleansing" in action. Imagine being 19 and having to unearth a mass grave and other such fun. Not to mention the people who you were supposed to be helping liked to take the ocassional pot shot at you too, it made for a really uneasy situation.

oh yeah and my h.s. girlfriend dumped me while I was over there via mail too. Thank god we were stationed with Russian troops who had good vodka...

I don't know where the base was, I've only lived here since 95... I think they closed it before then.

I work at the big HP plant on Harmony, or should I say: I am in indentured servitude at the HP plant on Harmony.

I'm a contractor, not a real employee... and that's an important distinction at HP.

I've been working in Ft. Collins for more than two years now and it's getting old, I'm a contractor but as bad as I thought I had it, I got nothing on dzm.



Anyway, gotta dash and go pick up that part... hopefully it will solve the problem!

I'm really sorry for how miserable you are at your job, DZ. I still don't understand how this guy was able to run for President (or Mayor) of Croatia while living in the U.S. That just seems odd. Oh, and that picture of him is nothing short of serial killer scary.

Have you considered moving? I know nothing about the job industry in comics and animation, but it seems like such a shame for someone with your kind of talent to not be involved at some level. Would there be more job opportunities in a bigger city, like L.A, Chicago, or NYC? You're recently married, and I'm assuming no kids.. now's the time to pull up stakes if you have to, especially if you get the right job opportunity.

You should email Neil Gaiman through the FAQ on his blog. He gets more emails than he can handle, I'm sure.. but I have seen him offer advice to people who are trying to break into writing/comics on many occasions. He might have some helpful information he can share with you about artists and breaking in.. he seems to know them all.

Problem is I own a home now, I cannot just up and move that easily. Im not even sure if Im cut out for comics, its alot of work. I did the indepenent comic thing for 3 years, got some work published but it payed horribly. It was fun, but Im to old to work for peanuts anymore. I'm completely stuck in a rut now, I need to do something. I honestly was thinking about putting my 2 weeks in at work and dealing with whatever happens. It may force me to take whatever job I can get, but maybe I'd be happier just being away from that company, even if I was no longer doing art. Its depressing, sure, but I really dont know what else to do.

I wouldnt just put in and wait and see. Its always easier to find a job once you have one. Dont you have any contacts within your industry you could call like former employees etc.? Id start there for find a head hunter you can talk to.

Well, I hope dzm's interview went well but my day has gone to **** and I still don't have my home pc working.

My day got better, My interview went way better then I thought. I went in there thinking Id be underqualified, but not only was I qualified, I impressed them hell outta when they saw my comic work. They are illustrators themselves, drawing landscape designs for parks and the sidewalk areas of downtown, stuff like that. They got all excited when I showed them and asked me a bunch of questions.
They said they have interviewed over 70 people and were down to 5 possible candidates. Asked me when I could start and that they needed someone by the end of the month. Honestly, it went well, I felt good after the interview. they told me they would only keep me there for 45 mins cuz they knew I was taking an extended lunch break, but I was with them for an hour and a half.
They said they needed to make thier decision soon and would contact me in 1 to 1 1/2 weeks.
