Yeah, my 12 year old had more questions than my ten year old but my younger child is becoming more aware of that kind of thing...

Boy, I was more embarrassed when we talked about the stuff going on in the film Mean Girls... Yikes... And that was PG-13... Those girls were calling each other some mean things and my daughter was younger when that came out... I think I actually blushed when I had to explain what ****s and ****es were...

I never saw that film so I'm not in a position to comment, but ****es and ****s would be hard to explain. I've always thought that the younger you can start these "love/sex" conversations, the easier it can actually be. Then as they get older they just ask questions to fill the gaps, which arent always nearly as embarrassing for us.

True....

BTW: I need a quote for my white board...

Last season I put up a Smallville "quote of the week" on the white board that hangs outside of my cube...

Anyone have any suggestions from Arrival?

This isnt anything big, but it gave me chills and I teared up a little when Jor-El said "Welcome home, my son"

or' "You're more than a hero..you're a super hero"

Having a conversation with a young child about "love/sex" is one thing.....watching a "superhero" tv show with them where the hero and a girl disrobe and go "softcore" on a hotel bed is another. Season 4 has started as a shocker for me as a parent.

For me the hotel scene wasn't as bad as some pg-13 movies my kids have seen, but it maybe dragged on too long... My kids didn't seem bothered by it, but they're hardly small...

I guess if I had young kids I would be more concerned about these things. My kids are older and it's never been an issue.

Okay, I can understand him being a Superman fan but isn't that going a little too far?

It continues to blow my mind how folks (in general - I'm not being specific with individuals here) tend to frown upon sexual innuendo, visuals, and overt references, yet violence is rarely if ever brought up anymore. I personally am not opposed to either on SV, though I do think they need to tone down the gratuitous stuff that nobody cares about. The shower scene with Abby and the jock in Facade for example was completely unnecessary. They were two guest stars who would never appear on the show again. Pfft. So unnecessary. If the scene was with one of the regulars, I'd almost understand. At least viewers are invested in those characters.

It's nice to be able to sit down with the whole family to watch a TV show, but SV's target audience is 18-34 y.o. men. While families with children DO watch the show, it's not aimed at young children. What's worse for kids? Seeing Clark and Alicia on the couch or seeing him slap Chloe across the room after saying, "The crown's mine, beyotch!" If I had kids, I don't think I'd want them to see either scene, depending upon how old they were. If they're interested in superheroes (what kid isn't?), Justice League is probably a more safe option.

I think a lot of the stigma lobbed at SV over the last four years (Dawson's Creek BS and whatnot) had stemmed from its younger themes, which admittedly, was a necessary component considering the premise. But now the principals are heading off to college and the focus will be more adult oriented. It's been a long time coming. I'm sure SV will still be considered a "family" show, but parental pre-screening might be recommended going forward, starting with next week's ep, Mortal. LOL  :D

The first ones that come to mind are...

Chloe: I think it's time you switched to SuperClark mode now.

Chloe: Take me along for the ride. *

Clark: I heard you were looking for me. I'm Kal-El.

Clark: What's wrong with your voice?
Lois: That's what happens when you get a neck massage from Barbie the Barbarian.

* Five years in, and the ride is STILL amazing!

Well, Nick Cage "named" himself after a comic book character. so I don't see that naming his child as one too is that far of a stretch.

I have cable...but it doesn't carry the WB network.
I personally am opposed to downloading copyrighted material...and will not do it.
Not trying to convert you to anything you don't feel like doing, but keep in mind: downloading TV shows isn't quite like downloading everything else. It's no different then TiVo'ing a show, or even recording it on your VCR.

The show has to have already aired in order for you to be able to get it to your PC.

The more I've thought about this topic the more I realize it's 'just the way it is in NA.' It's how our culture thinks; it's what we've established as OUR standards. I do have the benefit of living in Canada which means I get a little bit more accepted sexual innuendo here, but nothing anywhere near what it's like across the pond.

I remember my 80's cartoons being filled with death, violence anger. That was acceptable, but sexually suggestive things never were.

It's 'how we roll' here, and I don't think we'll be able to change that logic overnight (nor do we really need to).

I'm an aussie living here in the U.S. and I think I've been brought up the way you guys have. Sexual content, as long as its tatesful, is all okay with me.

Is anyone else having trouble clicking on the links at DTS lately, or is it just me?

They've been having problems again for the past few days, actually since right before the preem. I don't have any problems accessing it now though.
