It continues to blow my mind how folks (in general - I'm not being specific with individuals here) tend to frown upon sexual innuendo, visuals, and overt references, yet violence is rarely if ever brought up anymore. I personally am not opposed to either on SV, though I do think they need to tone down the gratuitous stuff that nobody cares about. The shower scene with Abby and the jock in Facade for example was completely unnecessary. They were two guest stars who would never appear on the show again. Pfft. So unnecessary. If the scene was with one of the regulars, I'd almost understand. At least viewers are invested in those characters.
It's nice to be able to sit down with the whole family to watch a TV show, but SV's target audience is 18-34 y.o. men. While families with children DO watch the show, it's not aimed at young children. What's worse for kids? Seeing Clark and Alicia on the couch or seeing him slap Chloe across the room after saying, "The crown's mine, beyotch!" If I had kids, I don't think I'd want them to see either scene, depending upon how old they were. If they're interested in superheroes (what kid isn't?), Justice League is probably a more safe option.
I think a lot of the stigma lobbed at SV over the last four years (Dawson's Creek BS and whatnot) had stemmed from its younger themes, which admittedly, was a necessary component considering the premise. But now the principals are heading off to college and the focus will be more adult oriented. It's been a long time coming. I'm sure SV will still be considered a "family" show, but parental pre-screening might be recommended going forward, starting with next week's ep, Mortal. LOL

I need a quote for my white board...
The first ones that come to mind are...
Chloe: I think it's time you switched to SuperClark mode now.
Chloe: Take me along for the ride. *
Clark: I heard you were looking for me. I'm Kal-El.
Clark: What's wrong with your voice?
Lois: That's what happens when you get a neck massage from Barbie the Barbarian.
* Five years in, and the ride is STILL amazing!
