The Thunderbolts* News and Discussion Thread

From the second article:
"Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost, who can phase through objects, comes closest to having a special ability"

I'd call that a pretty f***ing special ability lol

You can't pull off a character like Void/Sentry in a Disney+ show though.
Well it depends how threatening/large scale this version of Sentry is.

And in the marketing, they are hiding Sentry for some reason. It was weird how they didn't show Lewis Pullman's face in the 2nd trailer, and they made it look like it was some mysterious figure, when Lewis was present in the first trailer*

I've been saying this for a while. This movie looks like it's gonna be a huge surprise!
Quality it looks great.

I'm not sure it's resonating with a wider audience though. The Superbowl trailer didn't generate the views I hoped for. I don't think it performed even to Black Widow levels, which never looked this good.

Quality is what I care about.

If it's as good as it looks, that's enough for me.

Its a hard sell. In the first weekend of May 2024, The Fall Guy was released. It got great reviews and the movie outgrossed The Marvels in North America by more or less eight million. Worldwide, it grossed than less than $200 million. In another month, The Fall Guy would have flopped harder.

With the Marvel brand, Thunderbolts* releasing in the first weekend of May, it should perform a bit better than The Fall Guy. But if the Captain America legacy movie is struggling to hit $200 million domestically/$400 million globally. What else we can expect for team with a line up like this? I don't think great reviews would save it, if marketing isn't clicking with the general public*

I think Thunderbolts* can become a surprise hit if it really works with audiences and word-of-mouth helps it, much like Guardians of the Galaxy did at the time. I have the sense that, lately, if the movie is really good, people are gonna want to see it.
They are not running on opening weekend like they (I) used to. Habits have changed a lot.

My hope would be the disparity in quality between the two movies ultimately serveres this over Cap 4.

Thunderbolts* may start $25- 35m in the hole after it's opening weekend vs BNW, but hopefully WOM makes up the difference (and than some) by the end of it's run.

If Thunderbolts* creates some goodwill with the audience and wins them over, even a gross similar to BNW puts this in a much better place moving forward.

Guardians had great early buzz from the first trailer and Marvel Studios seemed unstoppable with their movies in 2014, basically they were the riding the Avengers wave. Marvel Studios lost some of their goodwill in the recent years.

I also don't agree just because a movie is good, people would show up eventually. The last Mission Impossible film underperformed. The actually good Suicide Squad didn't perform well, it performed much worse compare to the first one. Birds of Prey too. Streaming especially Disney+ is a big factor driving people away from cinemas.

I agree. Marvel has peaked at the box office and I don't see them ever getting back to those peak levels again. Not with the next two Avenger films, not with the X-Men, not with the Fantastic Four, and of course not with the Thunderbolts*.

They can still be the top franchise in the world though and it starts with getting back to making good films. Thunderbolts* looks like it could be a step in that direction... If this hits I will root for a success.

I can see some people thinking that, being more in line with the Winter Soldier than the Fantastic Four. Some fans prefer that more grounded feel. The optimal outcome would be to have a legitimate debate between the two (similar to summer 2014 with the Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy), which means both were successful. The sooner Brave New World is in the rearview the better.

Just curious, guys.
Are you going to buy ALL the Thunderbolt Funko pops or , do you have a FAVORITE?

I don't think they were 'hiding' Sentry's face. I think the dark mysterious figure who seems not quite really there is their visual design concept for what the Void looks like. Though I wouldn't be surprised if that still isn't the exact finished effect that will appear in the film.

The only products I was looking forward to this year were the 3 movies and "Daredevil: Born Again". I gave up on watching all the series a long time ago due to the embarrassing quality level.

Considering that I consider "Brave New World" among the worst MCU products, "Born Again" disappointed me a lot in the first two episodes (I hope I can change my mind during the episodes) and the trailer of "Fantastic 4" left me very indifferent...here I am waiting for "Thunderbolts*", and probably appreciating it, more than all the others.
