The Tobey Maguire/Peter Parker Thread

What about THE LIZARD?

Yes, and Electro, Kraven, Scorpion etc. There's loads more villains that haven't been done.

But, as I said, they are not AS important to the Spider-Man mythos and fans in general as those I've listed, IMO.

Of course it would be great to see the Lizard, or Electro. But, if fans were to make a limited list of what they want to see in three Spider-Man movies, the likes of the Green Goblin saga, Doctor Octopus, Venom, Peter and MJ hooking up, the Stacy family etc, would be on practically everyone's list.

There's only one thing I can think of that Raimi has left out, that alot of people would like to see, and that's the death of a girlfriend. Alot of people thought MJ was going to get it in this one. But, it looks like that's not going to happen.

They'll have to if Sony wants to keep making these HUGE profits of Spider-man movies.

It says that you don't have to copy the comic counterpart to get purists into theaters in droves. The real question is, what does that say about you?

For starters, that I'm a huge Spider-man fan. But also that I'm very open to Tobey's interpretation of the character. He's a great guy, and he does a fantastic job at telling Peter's story and expressing a certain kind of personality for him. There's a difference between being a purist and being downright cynical.

I also don't subscribe to the idea that Raimi is pulling a bunch of gimmicks in these films to draw in big numbers. That's bogus. That kind of obnoxious paranoia and gossipy BS really makes the community, the fanbase, look pretty damn immature. Give the man some credit for bringing us such a beautiful thing!

Tobey made Spider-man real for millions of people, and did so by doing a damn fine job. The character he potrays is by no means "un-faithful" to the source material. As my man RustyCage said, there is a difference between being a "purist" and a "cynical bastard" just for the sake of doing so.

Hahaha! :woot: I was actually gonna say "cynical bastard" just like that! How did you know?

But I decided I'd rather be nice because there's a lot of obnoxious flaming around here all the time.. didn't want to fall into that when I just came to talk about Spidey.

The only problem I have is this, I think Topher Grace (like Christian Bale for Batman) was born to play the role of Spider-man / Peter Parker. There are so many innate and natural qualities that lend themselves to those characters via said actors. I personally think Topher would've been an even better Spider-man / Peter Parker than Tobey. And that is saying ALOT. My only wish is that someone else would've been casted as Eddie, so if they decide to make future Spider-man movies, Topher could've played the main character.

Totally agreed.

Tobey Maguire told the The Courier-Mail that Spider-Man 3 might be the end of the road for him.

"To me it seems like this is a natural point for the team to break up because we have a lot of story conclusions that were going along for the main characters for the first two movies and we kind of tie almost everything up for the third movie," he says.

"It feels like a trilogy to me and it feels like the end."

It would suck if Tobey left & THEIR movies does not tie everything uo :o

hmmmm...I'm still not sure. I know spidey 4 will be made, but how can they top 3? 3 has everything I've wanted to see in a spidey movie. I mean I still can't believe that spider-man movies are such big draws. And a black suit movie? that's just great.

Simply...there will be a 4- but I don't know how much more steam the franchise has. Everything has pretty much been done, and the best villains used.

If Raimi does 4, then I'm sure tobey will follow suit.

I'd personally like to see him do 2 or 1 more- and then for sony to call it quits at 5.

Nothings sacred in hollywood anymore- and ive got this feeling theyre going to milk spidey until everyones sick of him :csad:

Yeah, I sense that is a problem as well. Or at least what I'm worried about. The past two movies have been completely building up to this. It's going to be hard to come up with a movie as exciting as the past two, and more specifically this third movie. I mean, they no longer have villains that are capable of carrying a movie by themselves. They'll be digging into the B - level villains from here on out. I don't get why they can't just make a great trilogy, and leave it at that. Keep it fresh, and don't O.D. on it and kill the franchise. Kind of like what happened to Batman and Superman for awhile. Keep it quality, as opposed to quantity. I mean, I really don't want another great set of movie's image and mystique tarnished by a bad movie or two. It has killed alot of the great concepts and movies.

As much as I really enjoy Tobey in the role. I feel that if he feels he is done, then let him go. Nothing is as bad as bating an actor into a role with more money when he doesn't really care about it anymore. Look at Sean Connery in Diamonds are Forever. If Tobey comes back for another one and his heart isn't totally in it, then he would most likely put in a weak performance.

If they move ahead after this with new people, cast and crew, then I hope they take their time with it.

I really hope Tobey comes back. Also do you'll really think Venom will be over in this movie? Isn't he only gonna be in like 10 mins? I'd say that be one very loose end.

That's too bad. If Tobey leaves that would probably mean this will probably be the end for Raimi as well. So Spider-Man 4 would be more like a restart.

I'm sure he would do it if Raimi was all excited to make another one.

I'm not damning the man, I love how Raimi can get people who love and hate the films to show up each and everytime a film is released. If Raimi and Tobey made 3 more films (or with a new cast and director) I would be there with freakin' bells on. I'm just saying you don't have to copy the comics like fanboys want, in order to get them into the theaters. I love seeing them b:tch about everything under the sun, then seeing them count down the hours for a 1 minute clip. It's freakin' hilarious to watch. :cwink:

man, there won't be a "Spider-man 4" without Tobey, but definitely there will be a new beginning from zero.
