The Tobey Maguire/Peter Parker Thread

The fans always complain about that. But if you notice, most people's lives are at stake in the films.

1. Do you think Spidey would of dropped a wisecrack when GG is holding MJ and a trolley full of kids threatening to drop them into a river? And before that, sent Aunt May to the hospital?
2. Would he drop a joke at the fair after seeing the board of directors fry into skeletons?
3. How about in SM2, when Ock is holding Aunt May hostage. You think he would risk that?
4. Or when MJ and the rest of NY is away from a sun-like death?

There's more, but the point is, he can't quip when all of his enemies shared something with his loved ones and/or were the ones who were about to die. These are movies, it's different. In a show yes, but a film, not that much. In these films, they're only around once. And all the time, someone's life is at stake. If I was him, I wouldn't waste time with a wisecrack if a loved one is a breath from death.
You make it sound like there weren't parts he could have quipped more in. The clock and train fight would have been perfect. He even says "let's talk." Not to mention the part where the Green Goblin has him on the roof and all he says is "because it's right." That's not the Spider-Man I grew up with. Spidey quips.

I think Tobey plays spidey a bit too....soft.
Perfect Peter.
but Spidey should exude confidence even if he's not truly feeling it.

and for the love of god stop making him so depressed all the time.

Yeah, nothing pisses fans off more than staying true to the character. :whatever:
I've never been mad that Spidey hasn't quiped in the movie as much as he did in the comics. I just don't think alot of quips would work well for a Spidey film. Personally, I'm fine with the amount of quips we are getting.

You think Spidey will make a quip when he's just regained consciousness from god knows how powerful amount of gas he ingested, paralyzed, and a madman is proposing to him? After what he did at the parade and threatened Jameson? And regarding after Ock says before they fight, He just kidnapped Mj, Peter needs to get to her NOW. He doesn't even know what he did with her. Remember, it's a movie. Things from the comic or books don't translate as well. Especially things that have to do with saving people's lives.

*Right after MJ is taken by Ock, it's one of the things that motivates Peter to don the mask again. He doesn't know what he'll do to her, because earlier, he tried to drop Aunt May off a building by lying to him.*

"Where is she?"

"Oh, she'll be just fine. Let's talk."

insert quip

They begin to fight. Yeah, that makes alot of sense. :whatever:

Jesus, some of you just want every single thing to be put in the films but you will never learn that it will never happen.

You make some very good points . However I still think it's possible to remain faithful to the mythology by having Spidey do more quips . Maguire's done more wise cracks in the movie based Video Games . Than he done in the film trilogy .

Spidey's trademark is he's a smart ass character. I couldn't believe Robert Doweny Jr. as Iron Man . Was much more of a smart ass than Tobey Maguire was as Spider-Man.

But it didn't work you see. It ruined the entire movie when Tony cracked jokes. Don't you people see!?!?!?!?!?

Every single thing? What does that even mean? We simply want Spidey to be like the Spider-Man from the comics. He is light hearted and funny. And for the most part, he hasn't been in the movies.

You guys remember when people wanted Batman to be darker and more adult? "IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN! IT IS FOR CHILDREN! YOU CAN'T MAKE BATMAN TOO DARK!"

Never is a word for loosers and the narrow minded.

No it didn't in fact a lot of people after the movie while leaving the theater were making comments about Spidey should have done the same .

Using less quips for all 3 Spidey films worked, what makes people think it won't work for S-M4 and S-M5?

I've never said it "won't work" but it won't be as good or true to the character as it can be.

Is that what makes spider-man for you? his quips? what i learned from spider-man over the years was with great power comes great responsiblilty. being a hero and living up to your responsibilities when greatness is thrust upon you. Yeah, i love it when he uses quips. but you still don't understand, you can do that in cartoons, and video games, because well, in films you have to tell a story in a two hour movie. how will quips serve that? especially if there's a villian helbent on domination and destruction. in video games when he uses the quips, they're just tasks you do, goons you throw aside, they're stupid, yeah you can make jokes. in the shows, they show up more than once, for spider-man knows what makes them pissed off. millions of lives aren't at stake. in the movies, the villians are only around once. i can't believe you're pissed at Raimi just because he doesn't use quips. what is true to the character is the person behind the mask. Peter Parker. His probelms, his choices. That what makes Spider-Man such a popular character. Not his quips.

I'm not narrow minded, I'm actually more open minded than you are on this. you just can't see it.

I don't want to get into a fight with you, Kal-El. But could you please point out where Spidey could of used quips in the movie when he wasn't trying or save someone he loved, or when almost the entire city was in danger? Which happened every single time when he faught villians.
