The Tobey Maguire/Peter Parker Thread

There will not be a restart. Restarts only happen if A) The franchise goes dormant for over twenty years or B) the series gets unbelieveably bad.

Superman Returns was a sequel, not a restart.

Anyone who wants a restart because Tobey might leave needs to be slapped. Restarts only (and only should) come from dire circumstances like Batman and Robin or the passage of time.

Just because they didn't pick who you personally wanted for MJ doesn't mean we should start over. Why would the general casual-fanbase want to see the series start again within thier own lifetime? It would be highly unsccessful. Joe Q. Public is going to scratch their head and say it's stupid to start over again.

Seriously, you people need to stop thinking like fanboys or just stop talking. There isn't going to be a restart. If Tobey leaves, Spidey will be re-cast. Deal with it.

If I ever see Christopher Nolan, I'm going to slap him for getting newbies started on this restart business.

Ye because the superman franchise didn't get uneblievably bad :o

Did you miss Superman III or Superman IV: The Quest for Peace?

Singer actually took the right route. Just retcon the bad installments out of existance.

Though I loved SR, I wouldn't have minded a restart for Superman just because the last good installment was 25 years ago and the last appearance onscreen period was 19. That was good enough grounds for a restart. But I think bad installments should just be ignored or something. But that would probably confuse most people.

what what whatt, did you not read your own post?

Did you not say that Superman Returns was a sequel and not a reboot, as an example of it not being a franchise that had gone down hill a la batman??

Well this is Raimi's last Spider-Man picture since it's Toby's last.

I guess there's been a mix up here. I know what I posted. You seem to have read my response to your response wrong. I was correcting you. The Superman franchise went wayyy downhill, and you indicated that it didn't.

after this, you have lost all credibility

First of all, after seeing your other posts, you don't impress or scare me. Second of all, in spite of my dislike for Batman Begins, what I say only has to do with it being a restart, not the film's individual merits.

And what I said was downright true. I have not lost any credibility, except maybe to somebody close-minded like yourself.

If Sony takes 3 years off without making a new movie, they will lose Spiderman forever. While that would be good news for Marvel, there is no way they'll let that happen.

Maguire or no Maguire, Raimi or no Raimi, Sony will do what it takes to keep the franchise in their possession, and that means getting another film started.

The only other possibility that I see is Marvel negotiating a buyout of the contract. I don't know how much that would cost; perhaps $50 million? A figure like that might make sense for Sony if they think that a Spiderman 4 without the key cast members wouldn't be very profitable. But if Spidey 3 grosses $500 million worldwide, I don't see Sony letting go of control no matter the price.

Nope, firstly my post was clearly sarcasm, and it was in the response to you claiming that only franchises that have either been 1) inactive or 2) gone downhill, hence my post about superman going wayyyy downhill

Hey man, relax, don't let them pull you into puking personal attacks back and forth at each other. You seem pretty well composed, so I trust you understand that it doesn't need to get like that over something so small. This is about the movies, not them taking shots at you as a person, or luring you into taking shots back.

So don't let them faze you. Let's just focus on the Tobey talk, and enjoy the new footage in another half hour! :)

Raimi stated in Wizard magazine that if Toby did not return, then he would not return either.

And I honestly don't want a direct sequel if it's going to have an entirely new cast, but a distant sequel if the word "sequel" has to be there. Like the Bond movies.

Well, gee. Forgive me for not detecting sarcasm through text.

Next time you use sarcasm on the 'net with me, I'll hurt you..... or something.

So....anyone think that SM-3 will NOT end with Peter and MJ getting hitched? Or at least, a successful proposal?
I'm kind of back and forth on it, myself. On the one hand, their relationship has been strongly heading this direction by the groundwork laid in the first two movies. On the other hand, if Sony really intends to make this a sextet (and I hope to God they don't), introducing Gwen at this point in the story makes more sense if she is a potential rival for Peter's affection.

That said, I really hope SM-3 ends in a marriage. On a hill.

/\ Well, I wanted Gwen in the first movie with her death ending that movie. But I understand why it didn't happen. I'm confused now as to why Gwen is here...the only thing I can think of is that she breaks up the Pete/MJ flow we have going from 2. I say, marriage in this film is a no go. Why else introduce Gwen...unless she is a Venom set up device.

That said as well, I would like to see a wedding....on a hill.

Tobey looked awesome in all the new footage scenes and he did some major improvement on his acting since Spidey 2.

I can't wait to see this movie May 4, Damnit . :spidey:

He looks like he's showing real emotion now

I just found out he's not gonna do anymore spidey movies... I just cant see anyone else playing Parker IMO. But the show will probable go on, Sony is making too much money off of this. And aslong as the movies are high quality films like the past 2(and I'm sure spidey 3 will be great) then I'm all for more movies without Tobey or Sam(should he also decide not to do anymore).

This is brilliant news and news that I've been predicting for well over 2 years. Some of you must feel like utter morons right now, your blind worship to Tmags has failed you, he's out after sm3 and I welcome this with open arms. Changing the characters keeps it fresh, let spider-man be the james bond of superheroes, it works because it makes sense. Tmags doesn't make the character of spider-man special, its more like the other way round, This news has made my day and I rub my hands with glee at the pain some of you geeks are enduring over this unspeakable, heartbreaking news. Phase 1 is now complete.

Tobey made Spider-man real for millions of people, and did so by doing a damn fine job. The character he potrays is by no means "un-faithful" to the source material. As my man RustyCage said, there is a difference between being a "purist" and a "cynical bastard" just for the sake of doing so.

Why is it that some people think that Tmags's portrayal is so awesome? Seriously, he didn't do anything spectacular, anybody could have done what Maguire did and its one of the reasons that cracks me up when some people put foward the stupid idea that once Tmags leaves, they should stop making spidey movies :whatever:
