The Tobey Maguire/Peter Parker Thread

He was witty in the films, what movies were you watching? As I said before and I'll say it again. You want a mindless action film with no story, stupid one liners, and a Spider-Man who does nothing but be witty and make sarcastic remarks for all the two hours of the movie.

Just for the record he was witty in all three films

Spider-Man 1

"That's a cute outfit, did your husband make it for you?"

"It's you who's out Gobby, out of your mind."

"Well beats taking the subway. Don't mind us she just needed to use the elevator."

"You have a niche for getting into trouble."

"I missed the part where that's my problem."

"Hey everyone, sorry I'm late. I had to beat an old lady with a stick to get these cranberries."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spider-Man 2

"It gets a little itchy. And it rides up a little in the crotch too."

"I have a niche for that."(when Doc Ock" told him he was getting on his nerves)"

"I have a few! Yeah!"(When asked if he had anymore bright ideas)

"This is really heavy."(Holding the side of the building while talking to MJ)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spider-Man 3

"I guess you haven't heard. I'm the new sheriff in town!"(To Sandman)

"A couple of minutes ago wouldn't have been so bad either."(To Harry when Harry mentioned how he came just in time)

"Oh, look at little Goblin Jr. You're going to cry?"

"I'd love to shoot you sometime."(to Betty)

"Is that all you got?"(During his fight with Harry at the Mansion)

"Hate those things."(Escaping the Goblin blades during their aerial confrontation.)

"Where do all these guys come from?"(After his encounter with Sandman)

"I'm going to throw some dirt in your eye."(After discovering Eddie lied about the photograp and the story)

"See ya chump!"(After he broke Eddie's camera)

"Yeah is everything okay here Paul?"(Asked in a mocking arrogant tone when Paul asked if everything was alright with MJ)

So to say he wasn't witty or true to the character is both mindless, unfair, and stupid.

Don't forget:

In Spider-Man 1:
"Come on move, kid!" (Which is totally what everyone in the audience was thinking)
"Well, Beats taking the subway...oh dont mind her she just needs to use the elevator"

Nicely done

No :O . I just find it funny how just recently I thought..."I wonder how weird it would be to have Franco as Peter..." ...heh, strange...

Ha ha, if things had turned out different, you may have in 2002 :cwink: , but i'm glad he got the Harry gig, he was great as the character.

Movie Spidey

Everything in Bold pretty much sucked and could have been handled better imo.

I really liked the way the movie symbiote suit looked. In any case, Tobey Maguire did a pretty good job of portraying a darker Spider-Man.

Agreed, it summed it for me when the wat he delivers the line "Its time to PAY MARKO!!" He really sounds like he wants to hurt Sandman when he says that line, and "Good Riddance!" is delivered very convincingly as well.

Agreed, I loved those scenes. Another one was "remember Ben PArker? The old man you shot down in cold blood!" "what does it matter to you anyway?" "Everything!" Peter truly looked and sounded mad and one of the creepy things about that is that the Symbiote is feeding off of it. Tobey did an amazing job bringing out the darkness within.

Agreed. Maguire is very believable as an actor which is why I really like his version of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Maguire has shown he can be very convincing when he wants to be sad, mad, or indifferent.

wow just saw an old interview for the first Spider-man, and tobey looked really young

^^ Fanboy talking out of his ass!

We have no idea what Sony is up to for the fourth other than it has two undisclosed villains and that the guy who wrote Zodiac (but also The Rundown, unfortunately) is penning the film.

It certainly will turn out better than a Fox superhero movie (thank God Zack Penn and Simon Kinberg nor Tom Rothman are nowhere near to be seen this project), but they could be planning an entire recast and a new direction; or since they are shooting for 2010 they may just give in and buy back the entire cast/crew for SM4 as this is reportedly a one-shot film anyway.

We simply do not know. So quit acting like you know something no one else does.

Anyway, I like Maguire a lot as SM. Rewatching SM3 makes me appreciate his acting ability the more cnsidering he is still believable and empathetic/sympathetic in this role even when he is in such an overstuffed story with inane things like street dances and alien goo. I think he has gotten a much better handle on the Spidey persona since the first movie and I have always felt he played a great Peter Parker. I owuldn't mind him coming back and doing one more and going out on a better film.

But I don't know if he will. And I won't pretend that I do.

P.S. For all those who say Tobey plays himself, watch the gag reel on the DVD.

Tobey was awesome as Black Symbiote Spidey . In those scenes and I loved The Bell Tower Sequence too. Tobey did some awesome acting in that scene as well .

Spider-Man 2-I'm pretty sure he says a nack for getting on peoples nerves, not niche.

And many of those weren't quips at all. If you really think he was as quippy and smart mouthed as the comics you obviously have never read the comics. Mindless, unfair, and stupid? Grow up.

Contradict yourself much? You know this just makes you look like an idiot. So he was witty. Yet, all I want is him to be witty and that will make it a mindless action movie? Which is it sparky? Was he witty and the movie was still good? Or are you saying he wasn't witty and that would make the movie bad? How is it you even have the brain capacity to type?

How is he a fanboy for saying that Tobey is not coming back? Do you even know what a fanboy is?

Someone who goes online to either blindly praise, but usually mindlessly nitpick and attack into oblivion something that doesn't satisfy their concept of their media obsession, much like what most people do on this board.

That about sum it up? An example would be someone spending months venting how Tobey Maguire is not funny enough to be Spidey and constantly posting pictures of him out of shape and then of actors with six packs who should play him thusly.
