The Tobey Maguire/Peter Parker Thread

There...is no real Spider-Man. I hate breaking that to you. ;)

Anyway, I'm doubting he will return now. He probably needs to avoid anymore typecasting.

Kind of like how George Clooney and subsequently, Joel Schumacher publically apologized for "Batman & Robin." If there is a "Spider-Man 4", I'm in absolutely no mood to once again have to endure:
*Mary Jane getting kidnapped again!
*Peter crying like a *****
*Spider-Man unmasking himself in front of villians
*Goofy dancing/musical montages
*A plot that's actually coherent

The couple were among the honored guests at the nuptuals of celebrity stylist Estee Stanley yesterday evening in downtown Los Angeles.

Agreed, I really do consider him the real life Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
just like when ppl think of micahel Keaton as the live action batman, i think of Tobey as the live action spidey
i just can't picture anybody else for the role.

that reminds me, are those two even married yet? they have been engaged for like God knows how long and then they end up having a baby too? smart move. not to sound to negative but his girlfriend does not look all that either.

They Got Married Sept 2007 :woot:

I like Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man, too, but I don't think he's the end all be all.

I'm sure there's another actor out there that could do the role just as good, if not better.

I love Tobey as Spidey, but he's frankly too old and it seems like he's uninterested. I'd rather see a cast full a fresh faces, and a new direction to the films.

Yeah i agree with all of this, he was amazing as Spiderman in all 3 movies, and his performances got better with every movie IMO. But it looks like he isnt coming back at this point so its time to move on, there are others out there who could do an awesome job also.

I don't doubt that given the right dedication from a new filmmaker not only can we get a different yet equally as absorbing interpretation (ala Burton's Batman to Nolan's Begins) but we may even see an actor that can surpass Maguires performance, which I always felt was very wrong for Spiderman

Cutest thing ever...

Tobey Maguire takes his daughter, Ruby Sweetheart, 17 months, for a little walk around the block in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The father-daughter duo ate at Mauro’s Cafe inside Fred Segal on Melrose Ave with jewelry designer mama Jennifer Meyer. After the short lunch, Jennifer and a gal pal took Ruby for a shopping spree.

It was recently announced that Tobey’s production company Maguire Entertainment and Warner Independent Pictures have acquired rights to the Atlantic Monthly article “Marry Him! The Case for Settling for Mr. Good Enough” by Lori Gottlieb. Gottlieb will turn her article into the book “Marry Him! Finding Mr. Real” and then Maguire will adapt that book into a big-screen romantic comedy.

MSNBC 's TOP 5 Inspired superhero casting

Tobey Maguire in “Spider-Man” (2002)

I remember casting a “Spider-Man” movie in my head about 1998 and thinking Leo DiCaprio would make a perfect lead. When friends objected, I said, “Listen, he’s young, thin and bankable. Beats the muscleman Hollywood will choose.” Oops. As soon as I heard their actual choice, I knew they were on the right track. You mean the nerd from “Ice Storm” who reads “Fantastic Four,” quotes the Human Torch and can’t get to first base with Katie Holmes? It was as if they’d cast some geek friend of mine in the role. It was as if they’d cast me. Although in his mid-20s, Maguire still looked like a high school senior, not to mention a science nerd. He looked like Peter Parker from the classic Steve Ditko era. He gave us PP’s wide-eyed sincerity, his general sweetness, which can disappear into a thousand tics when Mary Jane poses a direct question (“Why so interested?”). Peter Parker is the most internal of alter-egos, and Maguire lets us see his thoughts. “(Uncle Ben) never doubted the man you’d grow into,” Aunt May consoles him. “How you were meant for great things.” At first her words are salve for his guilt for letting the Burglar go, and thus, inadvertently, causing Uncle Ben’s death; then, without a word, you see him going deeper into what he must do.
