Venom served his purpose, but a little more of him wouldn't have hurt. In the final battle, he's taken out and not seen for 3 or 4 minutes. That has always bothered me because they could've have used some of that time to extend the one on one fight with Spidey that lasted all of 10 seconds.

When we first have the Spider-Man/Venom confrontation, that was about 3-4 minutes and then we get another 2 minutes when he was strangling Spidey, and then the Spider-Man vs. Venom battle was around 3 minutes too...sad that he got such little time, but, yes, he served his purpose into trying to get his revenge.

Having a Venom spinoff with a different origin story would completely through out what they did with him in SM3. They can't have a prequel b/c that would be dumb and lame.

They've screwed up worse than to have a Venom movie with a different character...I mean, they screwed up Hulk and The Incredible Hulk is a reboot, and the same could go for Venom...Eddie Brock could be shown running from the law and then he sets out to defeat Carnage, something his symbiote created.

The film could take place several years after SM3, with Eddie having spent several years in the hospital after being nearly killed by the pumpkin bomb. He comes out of the hospital and tries to reunite with his father, who refuses because of the fake photo debacle. Then Eddie gets married to Ann but their marriage fails because of Eddie's temper.
Eddie longs to be with the one being that cared about him, the symbiote, which did enough to save him after the attack but then left to find a more able-bodied host. Eddie tracks down the symbiote, rebonds, and we have more of a 616 Eddie/Venom instead of the poorly acted and awfully written "Venom" in SM3.

I would so like to see a Venom spin off. Only they couldn't call it Spider-Man 4 without focusing on Spidey. They could call it "Venom".

I dont believe hospitals take in piles of dust :o :whatever:

I'd love to see a Venom movie, but come on guys, he's dead.

Are forgetting something....SYMBIOTES CAN HEAL AND REGENERATE! If Raimi wants to please the fans now, he better get his **** to together and use that to bring Venom back.

Please, lets move on, theres more to the Spider-Man mythos than symbiotes :o :whatever:

I love Venom with all of my heart, but Venom 1988 is right. we need to see different Villians in the Spidey films.

Maybe they could just forget Spider-man 3 ever happened. For the Venom film, just have his narrate what happened(his hatred for Spidey, getting the suit;etc)and let's say that he moved from New York to try and start his life over again all the while trying to control his darkside. I think something like that could work. Just forget what happened in Spidey 3.

Eddie was once consumed by fire in the comics, not even attached to the symbiote at the time. The symbiote came along later and healed him. As long as the symbiote's healing abilities are in play, anything can be retconned. If Marvel wants him back, he can easily come back.

That's right, Venom possesses a healing factor too, however, it's obvious his molecules were fried in SM-3. And there's no coming back from that. I was certainly let down by the ultimate betrayal, however.

agreed

I would like to see Lizard in Spidey 4. Maybe Kraven or Mysterio too.

I hope he doesn't come back in the SM franchise and I don't think that is the plan. If he does come back, which he most certainly can if the $$$ is right, it will be in the rumored Venom spinoff with a different, capable actor.

I think Venom will be back, but only when the series relaunches. He's Spidey's top enemy and he's too popular to be ignored. I just hope that when he does return the director doesn't waste him and the symbiote storyline.

In a pig's eye he's Spidey's top enemy. That crown belongs to Green Goblin, with Doc Ock close behind.

They've actually done some damage to Spidey's life, unlike Venom, who's just a glorified stalker. Take Venom out of Spidey's life, and what would be different? Nothing. Take Ock and Gobby out of Spidey's life, and the Stacys would still be alive, so would Peter's baby, and Peter would be dead due to that virus he got in the Clone saga.

Yes, finally someone who gets it!

Green Goblin is Spider-Man's top villain, without an question. Just because Venom is a fan favorite, doesn't make him Spidey's greatest challenge. Because, honestly, what has Venom done lately?

Green Goblin has tormented Peter's life from the very beginning, starting with the death of Gwen Stacy, to the death of Ben Reilly, to the death of his unborn child. And Norman Osborn has done some other twisted things and screwed around with the Parkers' heads.

And in the movie verse, he's the only true villain that seems to have challenged Peter the most. Even after his death, he instigated Harry into hunting Peter, further screwing up his life.
Goblin murdered countless innocents, attacked the Bugle searching for Peter, tried to force Spider-Man into partnership, attacked Aunt May, attempted to murder MJ, and beat the living crap out of Spider-Man before he was killed.

Without question, in comics and film, Green Goblin is Spider-Man's main baddie.

I really only counted the freefall fight. I expected them to have an all out brawl like the rest of the villains had.

Well..here in Canada, I had a bad accident with a toaster once... :woot:
But as much as I'd love to see 49erVenom's idea put to film, I just don't see it happening. I've come to accept that he's dead, let's move on from the symbiotes for SM4. :csad:

I'm a huge Venom fan, it's pretty obvious from my posts, and I enjoy the stories of him, but I'm not going to say he's Spidey's most important villain, but I don't think he's trash either, overall I'm just tired of the back and forth debate really.

I can't argue with you. Goblin and Ock have done the most damage to Spidey and I think that I would even rank them one and two. However, they also have been around alot longer than Venom. Plus, they've also had writers who have actually done something with their characters. I just look at Venom and see such wasted potential. I don't think any villain has closer ties to Spider-man. I mean,he IS Peter Parker. The symbiote was Spider-man for a while and Venom is Spidey's evil side. He knows EVERYTHING about Peter. Venom and Eddie Brock are great characters. It's not Venom's fault that he has had bad writing and storylines over the years. I like both Ock and Goblin, but for me,Venom is the best. There is so much torment going on inside Brock and I don't think the film explored any of that.
