I thought Topher was wonderful in the film. He's the one person who really surprised me. Like most people already said,he was given very little to work with but he took what he did have and made it great. As for him not being huge like his comic book counterpart. Well, things that work well in comic books don't always work well on screen. I just can't see this huge, muscle bound guy working next to little Tobey Maguire as a dinky photographer at a minor newspaper. He would just look so weird and wouldn't fit in at all with everyone else. Imagine someone who's say,6'4' and weighed 250 pounds working with Tobey,Kirsten and James Franco!
Topher was awesome,imo!
I completley agree! I had no problems with Brock in this film. As I have said, Brock's screentime was great, I loved how his happiness when't down hill in the film, and more! As others have said, he was so fun to watch.

^ Exactly...Venom 1988?? ;)

BTW the flagpole thing was not Brock suspecting Pete was Spidey. He never saw it coming in the bell tower. It was just him confused (like everyone in the Bugle) at what Peter's secret is at getting those shots.

I don't know Tobey but seeing fan favorite (dear God, don't ask me why) Brock Lancaster (or whatever the wrestler's name is) in a suit with a small tie and leather jacket walking next to Elizabeth Banks, Tobey Maguire, Bill Nunn and saying to JK Simmons "I have a girl I'm planning to marry..."

Just don't see it.

I'm going to ask all the Venom fans now pissed about the movie...if the movie had been centered around Venom and he had as much screentime as say Doc Ock in SM2, but still died at the end...would y'all still be pissed?

I wonder if a lot of the hate isn't towards the movie's flaws so much as Venom dying. Doc Ock goes and there is barely a whimper from fans and none from non-fans. Venom dies, the villain many people MISCONCEIVE as Spidey's arch-nemesis, and 8 months later they're still *****ing and moaning about it.

I think if Venom would have gotten the same screentime as Doc Ock, and then died, people wouldnt be complaining as much, me included.

As a Venom fan i just wasnt satisfied with what we got of him in the movie, he didnt even have a one on one fight with Peter (that lasted longer tht 30 seconds anyway). Now as a Doc Ock fan, i was completely satisfied with what we got, hence why i dont complain much about his death.

I liked what Venom did in SM-3 but as you said, he just didn't have enough screentime, especially considering he's one of Spidey's most badass villains.

Venom could've had more screentime but Raimi hated him which is probably the cause of his limited screentime.

That and he couldn't be introduced until the third act to work as a character. I admit Raimi's lack of love for the character shows in how much focus Brock gets, but you cannot develop a new character and 2/3 of the symbiote saga in the first 10 minutes so the fanboys could get their symbiote-lover imagined.

Venom never should have been in the movie in the first place. They should have used this movie to expose and develop Brock...

:up:agreed, i also wish they could have made the ending by having pete go in the daily B where he works and JJJ could have introduced brock to pete and thats how they end it

that would be cool however, by then peter would have already gotten rid of the black suit, therefore venom would never happen.

Eddie was mentioned in the first movie; and if Raimi were to add the Eddie/Gwen storyline, he should've introduced both in the second one and also Captain Stacy in the first one. But, then again, perhaps Raimi only cares about the main three: Peter, MJ and Harry.

That's true, I wished that he liked Venom more because if he did Venom would've had more screentime.

^^^ Well, obviously...Eddie Brock/Venom wasn't the only mistake the movie had...Flint Marko/Sandman being Uncle Ben's real killer; having a sick daughter and not even screentime with his family; Harry Osborn should've been Green Goblin II and not New Goblin and should've gotten a better storyline then just the guy who tried to steal MJ away again; Peter should have not been emo when the symbiote took over; Raimi should've left his kids out of the movie.

Yes, the real problem with the movie was that it did not follow exactly what IamProdigy had been imagining for three years.

Lmfao!

But for the sake of this thread, I voted Great- He did better than you thought. Despite my reservations, he did a fine job as Eddie Brock & Venom.

Damn right.

I know you're being an *******, but you're right. Sam Raimi sucks and he messed up everything that had to do with Spidey by deciding to write the story for Spider-Man 3.

You're just... a horrible person.

The writing was the least of Spider-Man 3's problems.

That's what I would have done. Also, it would have given Raimi more time to make Brock a more interesting character, and thus a more interesting villain. So many people b*tch and moan about how Venom is "too one dimensional" and such. Well, if you don't like it, change it! Raimi could have used this opportunity to make Brock a better villain but instead he was thrown in as more an afterthought.

Personally, I would have made Brock a bit of a mentor figure to Peter. Someone that Pete tags along with on journalism assignments and such. I would have had Brock be an alright guy, but someone who also could be a major jerk. I'd make him a typical imperfect person, someone who wants to the do the right thing but more often then not does the wrong thing.

I would have changed out the Sandman family storyline and replaced it with Brock. Have Brock be the one with the sick daughter, except he's trying to take care of her on his own. His wife left, and a good deal of blame lies with Eddy, because he wasn't the ideal spouse.

Eddy needs money to get his daughter medical treatment, but he also has a gambling problem and owes money to some bad people. So when he's desperate, he rips off Peter's pics to pay the debts off. Then, when Pete gets the black costume he exposes Brock (much like in the movie) but doesn't realize that by getting Brock fired he's also pretty much screwed the guy and his daughter because now Brock can't pay off the gambling debts fully.

The guys who Brock owes money come to his house and kill his daughter to teach him a "lesson" and Brock, overtaken by grief goes to commit suicide at a church, and you know what happens from there.

The sad thing is, I just thought that up, and I think it makes Brock more interesting as a character, and it would give him a better motive as a villain, because not only did Peter ruin his life, he inadvertently ended Brock's daughter's.
