Because the DEA is the one that has to reschedule a drug and they are refusing to reschedule it. The DEA directly profits from the war on drugs. They don't want it to end, and since there is a huge amount of marijuana users worldwide business is a bommin' for the DEA. They don't want that to change.

Besides, even if they did start the rescheduling process it would be years before it was rescheduled. To reschedule a drug lots of data has to be gathered and presented and there are a lot of bureaucratic hoops to jump through. That process is slow.

Money rules the world. And it's a f***ing damn shame.

Unfortunately, studies from the 40s and 70s didn't really have the sophistication necessary to track all the variables necessary to ascertain who should and shouldn't use marijuana. In the 70s I doubt they were aware that marijuana can wreck the lives of people with certain psychosis-prone brain chemistries or disorders such as schizophrenia.

The main thing is understanding what its effects are, and particularly from which ages it's safe to use. Like every other substance, it has its risks and benefits. If you're going to use aspirin because you have some kind of condition like high blood pressure, then great it has benefits. If you use it and you're a hemophiliac it might end up killing you. The same concept applies to marijuana. Just as bad as the people that demonize it are the people who are claiming it's harmless. It isn't, it just has it's contextual uses, like everything else.

Does marijuana have negative effects in general? Nope, it doesn't. Can it derail a particular kind of person's life? Yep, it can.

This is so freaking true. I'm schizo-affective and used to love smoking multiple times a day. After I had a mental breakdown and got meds to clear that up I couldn't smoke at all. If I did I would instantly hear voices in my head telling me crazy stuff and couldn't get them to go away with meds like a normal attack. Had to learn the hard way a few times that I couldn't do it anymore. I'm an alcoholic and have an addictive personality so the hard way is the only way I learn things most of the time haha

there has been enough research done for most rational people to conclude that that drug is less harmful than alcohol though, and that stuff like meth is way way more dangerous. And you can get into way worse trouble with the law with meth can't you? So why isn't it a schedule one drug? None of this makes any sense

Meth is actually a lot less addictive than the DEA and D.A.R.E. would have you believe. Most folks that try it or use it recreationally have no problem kicking it. I did a big line of it one night back in the day by accident and it kept me up all night plus I was able to put down enough beer to kill a horse, but I didn't go out and seek more of it out. My cousin was a huge party chick back in the day and smoked tons of meth and now she is a 4-year nurse with 2 kids and a great mom. Most of the meth addicts were already addicts from other stuff they just transferred the addiction from one substance over to meth. Or they start shooting it up but again that is something addicts do anyway. But, as has been pointed out already various forms of it are legal. Hell, back in the day doctors used to perscribe meth to housewives so they could get their chores done haha.
