The Twitter Thread

so does the hype announcement mean the Hype Twitter is a fake?

If Twitter didn't exist, the Iranians would figure out another way to news about the protests out. Texting, facebook, forums like this one... so I wonder if Twitter really is important at all.

From what I can tell, it's quickly becoming a place for old, out-of-touch politicians to try to communicate with their constituents... and, like Chuck Grassley, failing every step of the way.

Twitter is just a place for losers to try and feel important. No ones life is interesting enough to need a Twitter account. What amazed and disgusted me though was last night, flipping through the channels on TV happened on the Teen Choice Awards and they gave an award for the best celebrity tweet. Seriously?!?! That's how horrible awards shows have gotten.

Seriously, does anyone really care about Twitter?

I didn't like Twitter before, but after I joined I think it's really fun to read up what celebs were doing, like Alyssa Milano (I only follow the real celebs, not imposters). Plus, news networks like LA Times and CNN do give news feed on Twitter, so you'll know what's going on right away. ESPN used to do it also, until it restricted all its employees not to give up-to-minute breaking news on Twitter, for fear that they won't visit ESPN.com or watch SportsCenter on TV (rather lame imo).

So the lame twitter mania continues.

They are writing a twitter opera and it is based on lines submitted via twitter:dry:

I thought it was 50% pointless babble , 50 % self promotion. Of course spam had to work it's way in there.

Why are we wasting money researching this?

Twitter may suck, but clearly science has even less of a life than Twitterers.

Twitter's a complete waste of time. A few people here have actually tried defending it. :whatever:

Research shows that you can get money to study ANYTHING.

with all this talk about pointless research, im starting to question if "research" is even a word in the first place. it just sounds weird now since its being used too much.

i don't see the difference between those percentages and normal conversation.

that said the problem with twitter is that people begin to rely on it. they're more likely to misscommunicate on it. and they'll ignore real conversation for it.

It seems to give some people a kind of buzz or high to see what so-and-so is doing at that moment as if they have a magic window into their lives.

I suppose it may be somewhat entertaining, but I'd rather have real conversations with people, personally.

Twitter is not as bad as people make it out to be, although most of the time it's true that most of the information are just worthless blogging about running errands or doing things that are irrelevant. It used to be alot better though, when ESPN personalities would have some breaking news before they wrote the piece on ESPN.com, but their company has forbidden their employees to use Twitter for these kind of news feed. It's still interesting to read what some celebs like Alyssa Milano and Emmy Rossum doing during the day, though.
