Comics The Ultimate Comics Spider-Man Thread!!!

Amazing has been lackluster since OMD.
It's had some really terrific ideas, but the implementation of them have almost always fallen short.
Like Aunt May becoming "evil" only to barely be in the book while she was, and it ended so abruptly. And no mention of it since. The old solicits were like it was a MAJOR thing, "Now that the Honeymoon is over..." May and JJJ Sr. are rarely in it, even less so for JJJ Sr.

Much like this thread, Ultimate Spider-Man is dead.

Death Of Spider-Man

Marvel is proud to announce Death of Spider-Man, the groundbreaking new story that forever changes the Ultimate Comics Universe from writers Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Millar. Kicking off with a prelude in Ultimate Spider-Man #153 and going into high-gear with Ultimate Avengers vs New Ultimates #1, this is the story that no comic fan can afford to miss when it all begins in February 2011 because, in the Ultimate Universe, There Are No Rules. This storyline continues in further issues of both Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate Avengers vs New Ultimates.

“As a group and as individuals we have made a conscious effort to create stories this year that no one has ever seen before,” said Bendis. “I am very, very proud to be a part of this storyline and very proud of Marvel for even attempting such a bold endeavor. Sit back and watch as we unveil a storyline unlike any other!!”

The most successful new imprint of the century, Ultimate Comics has continually pushed the limits of super hero comics and raised the bar for comic book storytelling, with Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 1 selling well over one million copies.

Millar added, “This is the biggest, boldest thing we've attempted in the ten years since we kicked this line off. This is the one thing that could be bigger than the creation of the Ultimate line and it's great to be a part of it. Being part of something like this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and soon you’ll all get to read the story we’ve written for you, This should be up there with the very small number of events that really mattered. This is going to be big.”

This February, Death of Spider-Man marks the most ambitious Ultimate comics story yet…and one that no fan will ever forget!

After the end of the Ultimate line I was in no rush for Ultimate Comics. Had a great six years reading USM collecting the trades/hardcovers and discussing it here. See where this Death storyline goes, not really interested in it. Rather go re-read the Black Cat stories.

How are we supposed to keep a thread alive when it doesn't even appear in the list?

So... anybody here read the Chameleons arc in full? Peter sure got his life turned upside-down with that thing, and the aftermath in issue #15 is really bad for the poor web-slinger. Gwen left the house, absolutely mad at Peter (I can somehow understand her : her father died, she died, and someone took advantage of her because of stuff related to Spider-Man), and Peter will probably feel terrible for not having the spine to talk to her first. Jonah is now an absolute Spider-Man fan... and can't help himself and reveal to everyone that he knows:whatever:! Yeah, sure, makes yourself a target for everyone who has a beef with Spider-Man, Jonah! That's going to turn great! New addition to the supporting cast, and apparently Spider-Man will really have its version of the 'Dating Catwoman' trope, except that it won't be with the Black Cat, but more likely the Bombshell. Can't wait for the next issues, Peter starting to take 'super-hero lessons', probably a compromise with Carol Danvers so that he can continue his activities without having to worry about making S.H.I.E.L.D an enemy, and the Black Cat making a come back along with Mysterio.

As for the Death of Spider-Man thing... yeah, it could go a lot of ways. It could be face-value, or just a way of speaking. It could be Peter, or that creepy thing kept in a glass cell by Gregory Stark. Or Peter could simply kill the Spider-Man persona and start afresh with a new name and costume.

can anyone post a picture of Ultimae Chameleon.
Here you go :

- the brother :

- the sister :

I'm also wondering about how their powers work, too. The way they operate, they don't seem to be able to take any face they want, they have to steal another person's face if they want to have one.

Camillia looked creepier when she took the faces of Jonah and Peter
Me and my brother both thought here to be named that way before reading her name as she is called by her twin brother, at least neither knew that before reading her name

Now that Jonah realized who Peter Parker really is, I'm actually looking forward to see Fred knowing the truth, especially since he kept giving him the wedgie, mocked his fashion sense, and was assumed by Sable and her Wild Pack to be Spider-Man

The face of an old man or a young man on the body of a buxom, scantily clad young lady? Yeah, that can be creepy:o!

I'm not sure about Flash knowing about Peter, Kong kinda took that spot in the Ultimate universe. Flash is a jerk to Peter, but he doesn't even have the fanboy-ism for Spider-Man.

Just read #150. Man it was good to see bagley's art again. What I would give to have him drawing the art again full time for Ultimate spidey.

Agreed I would love to see Bagley back. Hell I'd even take Immonen instead of the current artist. Also having read #150 a couple days ago I gotta say the whole [blackout]super hero school[/blackout] idea is not capturing my attention in the least. It just feels like the series has gotten neutered since the renaming. We went from Doc Ock kidnapping spidey and ripping his tooth out to this.

I thought the Chameleons arc and the previous business with Kitty were quite hard on Peter. Not Otto's level of pain, but let's face it, the good doctor holds the most special place in Peter's rogue gallery on that title : he's a mass murderer, he loves messing with Peter's head, he had a hand into MJ being injected with Oz, he had a hand into Gwen's return to life, he's probably the only person that Peter hates with a passion, etc.

I'm curious to see what will be the content of the Ultimates' teachings? Teach him to look for the bigger picture, like what happened with the Ringer? Some ideas for technology that could help Peter from Iron Man? Martial arts and general field training from Captain America?

Also, I love what David Lafuente and Sara Picelli are doing on the art. Apparently, with that team, Bendis intends to bring back the book to a Bagley-like pace, with an issue every two or three weeks. There are already two issues scheduled for February, perhaps it will continue to be that way.

what is the current story about? is the chameleon arc dun already? i havent read the new book yet as i am waiting a bit for something more interesting to come along before i allow myself to become invested in this new direction. otherwise i think the new book is quite boring from what i've looked and and read of it

The Chameleons arc is done, yes. Issue 9-14 + an epilogue with issue 15. There isn't a long arc planned for the next few issues, but there will be a common trait for all of them : Peter is being trained ad taught by the Ultimates and SHIELD to make him realize most of his own misconceptions and be less of a walking catastrophe.

Wow, Mark Bagley back on Spider-Man. I can't believe it! I might actually start reading this book again, just for his art.

Yeah I'm interested in getting back now into USM.

In the CBR articles celebrating the 150th anniversary Bagley really missed USM and said if the situation came up he wold and I was hoping he would come back.

Wait...So is he coming back just for this project?

Or will it be a long term deal?

I'm soooooo hoping it will be long term. It's going to be interesting to see how his art style has changed when he comes back onto the title.

Read issue 150, after seeing how average the Bagley variant is, nothing anywhere near his spectacular art during his tenure, I don't feel so excited about him returning to the art control

Main story is fantastic, "Iron Man" & Thor were great to side with Peter
Kind of sad to see Captain America such a dick towards young Spider-Man, besides, the only thing I like about this guy more than the original Steve Rogers is his costume
Nice to see Spider-Man brilliant, sure got treated nicely enough in the Iron Man experience

Story 2: Reprint of the Super Special:
What can I say? I was avoiding that cause after skimming through it a couple of times it felt like a plain rehash, this time I read it, and I wasn't impressed, all I know is I was wrong, it is not all a rehash of back stories

First time I thought it retconned the Peter unmasking in front of the FF during his Clone Saga, but DareDevil speech about Spider-Man being young and stupid, then recalling reading an arc before the Clone Saga having a few panels of DareDevil hitting Spider-Man and telling him "I told you, you are too young, and too stupid to be in this field", it proved that the Clone Saga retcons the FF knowing Peter is Spider-Man from that special issue

The Bagley variant is an old thing, probably taken from some variant for The Ultimates 3 that didn't see the light of day at that time, and that they decided to re-use here. It's ugly, but it's definitely not representative of what Bagley did and will do on the title.

You know, I'm not even sure that the Fantstic Four existed in the Ultimate Universe when Bendis made that Team-Up Special. I know that he created an origin for them in Team-Up that was retconned later by their proper series.

That Team-Up issue drawn by "Jim Mahfood" with the origin of UFF seems like just an out of continuity filler for laughs

At the time, the FF didn't exist in the Ultimate Universe, and Bendis basically had a field day with using every character he could think of. Most of this stuff was put out of continuity after, when the real series began.

I've just recently read back through the entire series of Ultimate Spidey (just arrived at issue 1 of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man) and I have to say that it truly is my favourite Spidey comic.

I thought I had gone off it a bit after Bagley left but Immonen's run was awesome!! (I especially loved his shots of the city, during Ultimatium).

Lafuente(pretty sure I got that right?) is also amazing! The storytelling is just spot on!

And Brian is just a god. I can't think of a single other writer that has managed to be soooo consistantly good for so long, it really is so awesome how he has managed to maintain such good pacing, fresh dialogue and shocks, all the way through!

Here's to the next 150 issues!

Torch is one full of himself dude
Iron Man appeared in one panel, still I say the voice of RDj is a perfect fit for him, especially after seeing him in the movie armor
The cover is one of those hundreds of tricky covers, the ones drawn with their subjects not really implanted in the issue, I sometimes enjoy those

Imagine if Gwen's mom actually cared for her daughter, what do you think she'd say if she knew her daughter actually died? And this girl living in the house of the Parkers is just a clone?

I need help people. I need a quick crash course on wtf I've missed with USM.

It's my understanding that Peter is now with Gwen and Aunt May knows Peter is spidey????

Ok, last time I checked, Gwen was killed outside Peter's house or something like that and Peter was dating kitty...

Can someone just bring me upto speed on all this. Thanks!

I don't know what happened between Ultimatum & v2, don't know what I should read to know how Pete returned and stuff
During the Clone Saga Peter finally revealed to his aunt that he is Spider-Man

Then you should know that Gwen actually knew who he is after MJ watched Spider-Man vs Ock on the news after the announcement of the new Spider-Man movie made MJ rush to check the fight in concern when she and Gwen were watching TV and talking about Peter
Gwen gone suspicious and checked the trunk Peter keeps a spare costume in and, she finally got that

In the Clone Saga a clone Gwen with symbiote showed up. In the game tie-in arc Eddie sucked the symbiote out of her after the symbiote deserted Brock for Peter, that made Gwen no longer needed to remain in the custody of S.H.I.E.L.D. and live with the Parkers
