Comics The Ultimate Comics Spider-Man Thread!!!

Wait, so the Gwen living with Peter niw is the real deal??

Also, how did Peter and Gwen get together. Didn't Gwen have some sort of attitude problem and what was the deal with the break up of Peter and Kitty, why didn't Peter get back with MJ as I'm sure if memory serves correctly, there was this tension between MJ and Kitty

@ben_reilly_s_s: Your welcome

@Ajendo: Gwen is a clone
By the end of the Clone Saga Kitty saw Peter kissing MJ, she called it a break up
The rest I still don't know of, wiki them

It's my understanding that Peter is now with Gwen and Aunt May knows Peter is spidey????

Correct.

Funny that you should ask those two questions in the same sentence, they're linked. After Gwen's death, she was somehow cloned thanks to the Carnage symbiote (and Bendis went out of his way to make us understand that she is the 'real deal' : no difference on any known scale) and came back into Peter's world during the Clone Saga. Peter found her by accident while searching for MJ (long story short, she was abducted) and Aunt May had the same idea than Peter about where to search for MJ, so she discovered them. May panicked, and in order to calm her down, to try and make some sense to her, he told her that he was Spider-Man.

And yes, Gwen is dating Peter. How that came about is a mystery, and Bendis has claimed that he wont reveal anything about what happened in that six months gap, so we will probably never know.

I hate that the game counts...
I dont have a system, so i had no idea what happened to her symbiote...
Thank you Spider-Aziz...

The game doesn't count, Spider-Aziz was talking about an arc of the comic called War of the Symbiotes that took elements from the game and re-worked them into the comic.

There are two new covers for the Death of Spider-Man event, one by Bagley for UC Spider-Man #157 and another by Leinil Yu for UC Avengers vs New Ultimates #3 :

Kudos to Bagley for going back to Ultimate Iron-Man's armor's original design by Hitch! Also, compare that cover to the one that was taken from storage and used for UC Spider-Man #150 : he got really, really better!

And Leinil Yu's cover is also really good, I understand that it is a homage to a classic cover from ASM #129?

Thanks, buddy.

nice homage but spidey looks far too 616ish for my liking

I'm curious, what exactly are the differences between the Ultimate and 616 design, other than my usual gripe with 'guest' artists on him (they make him look too old and too big)?

size and proportions - he looks massive there, not skinny and like a teenager, also ult spidey normally has massive eyes too

Bendis interview and some art by Bagley on CBR :

Is that
Norman Osborn
at the end?
Never believed he was really dead (that constant evolving thing from the Oz isn't exactly helping) but I somehow expected his return to be really hyped beforehand.
But hey, Bendis did
include Doc Ock back (Doom) without any warning whatsoever!

Finally Pete and MJ the way they're supposed to look. Man I've Bagely's artwork on USM.

I was thinking the exact same thing: "I can recognize them again!" :)

Ok, so Peter loses his powers...
hence Death of Spider-Man...
Peter Parker is powerless but will instead become a tech based hero.
like the newer New Warriors...

Are you just making a wild guess or have you heard something I haven't?

So, wait, is Bagley coming back just for an arc, or is he returning? 'Cause the artwork is pretty much what killed this series for me. (That, Peter/Gwen with no explanation, and how cluttered the book got with Iceman/Human Torch/Kitty/Nova/etc.)

Bagley is apparently coming back only for that arc. But Marvel seems to have big plans coming for the Ultimate Universe in the summer, so UCSM might not have even be around after that arc, and Bagley would still be on art duties in some part of the Ultimate Universe.

I don't think Peter/Gwen needs an explanation. Gwen was always attracted to him, and she's gorgeous, smart and resourceful enough that Peter would be interested if she set out the possibility of them dating. What exactly prompted Peter and MJ to break up could use a bit more explanation though.

The book got cluttered? Bobby and Johnny really takes a back seat on that series, they don't take the attention away from Peter. Kitty wasn't seen that much before she 'exploded' and became a fugitive, leaving the book in the process, and 'taking' Kong with her. As for Nova, he was only there for two issues, I don't see how he makes the book 'cluttered'.

Better than nothing, I suppose. It's not even like I really disliked the other artists. I thought they did fine. I just thought they took too much liberty with how the supporting cast looked: MJ, Gwen, Aunt May, and Kong, in particular.

Gwen wasn't always attracted to him. Bendis made it quite clear that they had a sibling-like relationship - one that both characters reaffirmed several times.

Oh, come on. They could've called it "Ultimate Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends," and it would've applied just as well as "Ultimate Comics Spider-Man." I read USM because it gave me Spidey-centric stories with Spider-Man villains. UCSM started out all about Kitty Pryde the fugitive or Peter's house becoming a superhero halfway house or the kid next door suddenly becoming a superhero. With the exception of the Mysterio arc, none of the new stories were Spidey-centric. He was a supporting character in his own book.

I thought it was obvious that she was attracted to Peter, but never acted on her feeling because he was taken, she was in a bad spot emotionally (the only time Peter was single in 'her' time was shortly after her dad died) and she respected MJ too much. When she said that Peter was like a brother to her, I always saw it as a tentative to reassure Mary Jane.

The first arc was the introduction of the new statu quo, so yay Spidey took a kind of back-seat in that one. The Nova story was an Amazing Friends story alright. The beginning of the Chameleons arc centered more on Kitty, but she was there before. The rest of the Chameleons arc is entirely centered on Peter, he's the one in a bad spot, the one whose life is being ruined, Johnny and Bobby only act as reinforcements when May sees that everything is going awry.

I don't want Johnny and Bobby acting as reinforcements. It cheapens Spider-Man's heroic-ness, if you will, if he needs someone to come bail him out of the fire. He handled Green Goblin on his own, he handled Doc Ock on his own, Hell he even took down the Kingpin on his own. The trademark of a hero is that he overcomes all obstacles. Occasional team-ups aren't terrible, but they've made two other superheroes part of his supporting cast. That, I can't support. :down

Everything I've heard about USM is all bad after Ultimatium. Which is a huge shame because I love USM, but the news of them killing him off just makes me sad.

Well has the show come out yet?
And is it actually called Ultimate Spider-Man?

I love the touch of the woman scared of seeing a superhero in the neighborhood in the latest issue
As usual, a fun slow paced issue

That woman really had it with those super-heroes flying above her head :woot: . I can't believe that Tony made something so unimaginably stupid, although his cover-up was funny.

The return of Gwen was good, good interactions with 'the boys' and Peter. I almost wish Johnny has had time to express his theory about how it's hard to live in the same house as him, just to see Gwen shut him up. And the discussion with Peter was sad, but we got to see the 'old' Gwen Stacy, she really sounds like how she was in the beginning.

The plot building up with Mysterio and the Black Cat is mysterious, can't wait to see where it will go. I wonder if Black Cat intends to replace the Kingpin, that would be a nice twist of her character, giving her such ambitions.

Stopped reading these issues a while back, think just before the clone sage. Was it any good? Gonna get some issues tomorrow.

What's been happening?

Well, the Clone Saga happened : many clones of Peter and one of Gwen Stacy appeared. The Gwen Stacy one was fused to the Carnage creature, which poses problem when she gets stressed out or scared. The only clones of Peter to survive are The Scorpion and Spider-Woman. Doc Ock was revealed as the one behind the experiments, while the CIA are the ones who hired him to perform them.

The Warriors arc : good Kingpin story, with guest-starring from Daredevil, Moon Knight, Iron Fist, Doctor Strange. Kitty Pryde of the X-Men kicked herself out of the team and ends up going to school with Peter and the gang.

The Death of a Globlin story : Norman escapes once again, and at the end of the story it looks like both Goblins, Green and Hob, Norman and Harry, are dead.

The Amazing Friends arc : Liz Allan turns out to be a mutant, Kong reveals that he knows about Peter's secret identity, Liz goes with the X-Men and it's revealed that her father is the Blob.

The Shocker one-shot : poor Herman finally manages to knock out and capture Spider-Man. Yet another villain knows his face, and we learn more about Roxxon Corp, and we wonder what they're up to.

The War of the Symbiotes story : many flashbacks make that one kind of hard to follow. We see Eddie Brock as the Venom parasite makes him kill and eat people. The Beetle appears, intent on finding samples of the suit for a mysterious master. The Gwen Stacy clone escapes S.H.I.E.L.D's custody during Norman's escape from Death of a Goblin, she goes to Peter for help, Eddie comes to Peter because he wants the Venom suit back (he lost it before in the story). When coming close to Eddie who still had some remnants of the suit in his system, Gwen transforms into Carnage, a battle ensues, in which Venom completely absorbs the Carnage suit, making a new version of Venom and completely cleansing Gwen of any 'suit'. The Gwen clone is so perfect on every level that Tony Stark says there is no difference between her and the original Gwen, so May and Peter decide to take her back with them. Gwen comes back to life, basically.

The Ultimatum tie-in : Spidey saves people, teams up with the Hulk and nearly dies. JJJ has an epiphany and decides to completely support Spidey from now on.

The reboot under Ultimate Comics Spider-Man : Bobby Drake and Johnny Storm end up living at Aunt May's house. Mysterio kills the Kingpin. Peter and Gwen are dating. Introduction of The Bombshells, a mother/daughter duo of robbers. Kitty is doing some vigilante work as the Shroud, and has developed her powers to become super-dense, giving her super-strength and a very hard to move body.

The Chameleons arc : starts off with Kitty being arrested during school for being a mutant, which leads her to snap and attack a news crew at her house, followed by a fight with her friends. Kong goes with her. After that, the Chameleon captures Peter and takes his place, making a mess of Peter's life. The Chameleon are actually a brother and a sister, both with the same powers. They also captured Jonah, who figures out Peter's secret identity and becomes even more set on defending Spider-Man.

The following issues deal with the aftermath of the Chameleon arc, Gwen leaving the house temporarily, Carol Danvers deciding that it's time to deal with Peter's situation and arranging for people from The Ultimates to 'train' him. Gwen returns and decides that it will be a better idea for her and Peter to break up.
