Allow me to extend some help, on that front.
With news of BL's resignation from the game...
.'ULTIMATE DC UNIVERSE' RPG Application.
Screen name: Master Bruce
Character you would like to play: Hal Jordan, Ultimate Green Lantern
Powers: His most immediate being incredible willpower, Hal wields the legendary Green Lantern Corps' Power Ring, bestowed to various warriors around the galaxy by the Guardians of The Universe. The ring, charged by a Lantern-designed battery, can form constructs based off of mere thought - making the potential for power nearly unlimited, as long as it remains within the Universal Green Lantern Code of Law.
Hero, Villain, or Walking The Line?: Hero
Basic history of the character: Hal Jordan always wanted to see the skies. Watching his father perish in a plane crash at an early age, the eager young man was destined to follow in Martin Jordan's footsteps and become an ace pilot for the Air Force. Honing his skills for years, it seemed Hal would finally get his wish - were it not for his cocky and abrash attitude, brought on by years of unresolved grief from that same childhood memory. Finally demoted of his rank after a fistfight with his superior, Hal thought his days as a pilot were over.
Until an alien named Abin Sur flew down from the skies. Charged with recruiting a new Green Lantern to patrol Sector 2814, Sur chose Hal with the intention of shaping his will into that of an unparalleled hero. Becoming the alien's apprentice, Hal began training on the far planet of Oa, home to the Green Lanterns and the Guardians alike. Though only a trainee, Hal rose above the levels of most of his peers, destined to become an officer in mere months.
But a tragic turn would propel him into the role far sooner than expected, as Abin Sur was later murdered during an attack by the robotic Manhunter drones. Destined to find out why, Hal's investigation was cut short by an attack by the alien Despero - who, just before, had been arrested by Hal and Abin Sur during another Earth attack. As revenge, Despero sent Jordan to a parallel world... where he, along with the likes of Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and The Martian Manhunter, now seek to escape.
Three reasons why you have chosen that character:
1. Hal Jordan is, by far, my favorite Green Lantern. Without him at the helm, I would have never been intrigued enough to pick up a GL comic book, let alone become the fan that I am now of the lore.
2. With the JLA arc moving at a snail's pace, and alot of big things coming up in order to end the season just right, I figured I'd help add another kick to the storyline's ass.
3. Playing Hal again allows me to tie up several storylines I've had in mind for the GLC, between my first run and my failed attempt to play Sinestro. A story that, more or less, ties into the bigger picture of things.
What do you plan on doing with this character as a person? (IE: How are you 'utlimizing' him or her?): Hal's always been the subject of intertwining writer syndrome: that is, he hasn't always had a distinct personality or character trait. I want to nail down my own take on who Hal is, and just what the responsibility of being a Green Lantern means to him. I also want to really play up the 'space cop' aspect of the Corps, making some of my stuff akin to Law And Order... only, you know. With aliens.
Please provide two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG (as a player): I know the big names of the DCU like the back of my hand. Even though I'm a Bat-junkie at heart, I'll always be a fan of the fellow Leaguers - so much so, that I want to show it and prove that I can handle a completely different mythology from the urban world of Gotham City.
What fonts do you plan to use for your character’s speech?: So I won't confuse my speech pattern with Batman's, I'm gonna just switch from Green, Arial Black to Green, Bold Verdana.
Character sample post (Three paragraphs and one line of dialogue, at minimum): "No? Then welcome to Wayne Tower, heroes. Get used to the accommodations, because they're about to become your last."
If Hal had ever heard someone so full of himself, it was hard to remember. Then again, he wasn't a stranger to the exploits of the guy who this clown was a mirror of... The Batman was, apparently, a guy who played on the fear of criminals. So it only made sense that 'Devilman' was trying to play on the fears of the good guys.
Truth be told, though, it wasn't working. Hal looked around with a smirk, seeing the shared expression on Superman and Wonder Woman's faces. If there was any fear amongst the group, it sure as hell wasn't showing.
"Subtle fella, isn't he?", The ring-bearer asked.
"You ask me, someone around here could use a swift kick in the-"
"Maybe,", Superman cut off, with a stern tone.
"But our priority is to help Batman."
"Right. Of course,", Hal replied, his ring glowing with fierce intensity that did a poor job of masking his true thoughts.
"I'm just saying. We find him, I get the first shot at his pointy-eared little rear. This guy's hold over Gotham City makes my double look tame."
"It is worse than we suspect."
Hal turned around, eyes widened, startled by The Martian Manhunter's presence.
"And just where the hell have you been?"
"Aiding a friend.", The Martian replied, with a slight smile.
"And I have no doubt that he shall be joining us momentarily."
Hal grinned. He could hardly wait for the real action to begin.
"Hot damn. We're finally that much closer to getting off this hellhole."
