But you still found a way to name-drop 'em, didn't you? ;)

Fine. But if I can't count the number of giant teardrops in each episode on one hand, I'm coming to hunt you down. :cmad:

Hahaha......they wouldn't be virgins for long.

You and your taffying :ninja:

That reminds me. I've been meaning to do some homework on the other 7 worlds excluding Asgard, Jotunheim, and Helheim. Starting with Niflheim

/bored at work :o
Do it. I still gotta read up on the actual myths myself. The Eddas are just so boring, though. For every awesome myth about Thor fighting old age in the form of an old lady, there are a dozen about the Norse rules of hospitality and s***.

I'd love to learn more about the whole mythology around Thor. He's one of my favourite Marvel characters but I know pretty much nothing about the original norse myths and legends apart from what i learned from the comics

Beware of things you "learn" from the comics. They're almost always different from the original myths.

Mysti, you should read the Defenders. Valkyrie is a sword swingin' momma with lucious tatas. And on the side you get the other side of Asgard.

Just sayin' :D

Someday. I do want to read more about Valkyrie. There was a great story in Thor where we learn that Valkyrie had the Wagnerian opera stuff happen to her in the Marvel universe too, and both Siegmund and Siegfried were other mortal forms that Odin gave to Thor, in part because he hoped Thor might free Brunnhilde.

Sounds like the stuff that Odin is talking about here.

Fair point most of the stuff i have 'learned' is probably all made up

I have heard Odin is much more of a dbag in the original myths

Yep, that's it. The issue it references, Thor #296, was part of an awesome set of arcs that delved into the nature of Asgard, the gods' past, the Celestials, the Eternals and Deviants, Ragnarok, and other pantheons. It just built on itself from like the #270s all the way through the early #300s. Damn good time for the Thor series.

I need to read that arc. I guess I'll start around 270.

The Defenders only published around 135 issues. The older stuff reflects the times. A bit corny but fun and then they get quirky and dark around 70ish or so.

If you have the money or can find "other" ways to check them out, I'd start at the beginning with Vol. 1, but if you wanna jump right in start with Essential Defenders, Vol. 5.

That is the ensemble issues with a bit of a focus on Hellcat/Nighthawk/Hellstrom but it leads up to the big throwdown with Satan and his boys. They are great and introduce us to Gargoyle and Devil-Slayer.

But again I'd start at the beginning. Plenty of Brunnehilde to go around.

If you just want the Valkyrie stuff, you could start around #293, I think.

I bought a ton of those as back issues and i loved them

Neat its payday next week so I might treat myself to some graphic novels I think  thanks Franklin :fhm:

You might look for Defenders in the cheap bins at your LCS. Always a fun scavenger hunt in those bins.

Defenders: Indefensible is by far the greatest Defenders arc of all time. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying.

But seriously, I miss the New Warriors. Grevioux' series left me a little hollow. I get that he was trying to utilize a sort of untapped plot point (i.e.: Mutants de-powered after M-Day) but he didn't really take the time to flesh out all the characters other than Sofia and Night Thrasher. Even Wondra felt forced.

Fact is, we need a Warriors reunion. Almost all the original crew has returned after a fashion. They need a redeeming moment, something to break the Avengers monopoly on team books.

Wasn't Wondra really Jubilee in some fan service-y outfit. She's off being a vampire with Wolverine now doing vampire stuff. Like glittering in sunlight and playing baseball

I was not a fan of Grevioux's series either i really disliked it :down

A reunion of the original New Warriors might be neat though

I wouldn't call the Wondra costume fan service-y. It was rather bland in terms of design.

I didn't hate Grevioux's series, but I wish they'd called it something other than New Warriors. But I'm getting enough New Warriors action from Speedball and Justice in Avengers Academy right now, so I'm good. I certainly wouldn't be opposed to Nova coming back, though.

Is Avengers Academy worth checking out

I have seen it on the shelves but have not read it before now

He is. At least that's what Bill Rosemann/Tom brevoort keeps saying. Not sure if he's being truthful or just to placate the fanbase.

I'm sure he's coming back. Everyone comes back in comics. The question is when?

Yes, it's definitely worth checking out. It's pretty much the only Avengers comic right now that feels like an Avengers comic.
