Laptops have bigger screens. Every single laptop in the universe does, other than netbooks and netbooks are almost as stupid as tablets.

And they don't have phones, I don't think. Unless you count Skype.

Actually some of them do have phone access. Some of the smaller tablets like the Dell Streak.

Oh. You said it was something between a phone and a labtop, so I just assumed you mean had some telephoney capabilities. But yeah, I would probably just stick with a laptop myself, though I can kind of see the appeal to a tablet.

I think of e-readers like buying bookcase for your books, just you can take your bookcase and all of its contents with you where ever you go, for whatever reason. Amazon has a lot of free books for their Kindle thing, though.

I've played around with the idea of getting one. I even downloaded the Kindle for PC app and got several of the free books they offer and Supreme: Story of the Year.

Every time I look at an e-reader, I get this dirty feeling like people are getting sold an expensive accessory they don't need whilst being told they need it. I mean, books aren't music or movies. You don't need an external device to play them. E-readers save shelf space, but that's about the only advantage I can think of for them. The fact that one of the main selling points for some e-readers is that the screens look & function just like real pages makes me want to stay with real pages. I mean, mp3 players don't pride themselves on looking just like old phonographs.

She likes that New Age'y music when she reads and I loaded some on her Kindle for her. Not my thing, but if you like to hear music while you read, it has that going for it too.

That's a good point, but I think the other advantage besides self-space is price. You do have to buy it, yeah, but if you read a lot and buy a lot of books, it will pay for itself over time since e-books do tend to be cheaper than buying the print version. I mean, hell, I've probably got $20-30 worth of books for that Kindle PC app that I got for free.
