All movies people went running to see when they came out and loved. They only started hating on it when it became cool to hate on those movies on the internet. Seriously, I was like 9 when those movies came out and I loved them. And gosh darn it, they're still entertaining as hell, I don't care what all the haters say, when Armageddon is on tv they watch it.:o

Glad to know I'm not alone... outside of the net I've never met ONE person that hates ID4. I love that movie.

Every one of those movies got the big bucks for a reason, people obviously liked them and for the most part- still do.

I liked 98' Godzilla as well, but I don't think it did well at box office or became a cult hit though.

One sentence can sum up my review....

''WAS THIS A MICHAEL BAY MOVIE?''

Hell yes, it was. And I'm suprised at that, because it's actually very very good.

Its no differant the Micheal Bays other films really. It has the same blow-em ups and action but what this film has is Bay at his very best. Maybe his best film. I liked Armageddon and The Rock so i may not agree with him not giving decent suffer movies. But this by far is his very best film. Maybe Bay is not as bad as people want to believe.

People may have gone out and saw these movies but where do you get the idea that people loved them (especially Godzilla '98 lol)? It was panned by critics and Godzilla fans alike. I'm a huge Godzilla fan and I actually fell asleep on this movie in theaters, only waking occassionally because of loud sound effects. ID4 had probably one of the biggest marketing campaigns ever at the time and was very hyped. Ditto for Armageddon with that insufferable Aerosmith song playing on MTV 20 times a day.

Perhaps once the novelty of the special effects wore off on these films people saw them for the soulless, effect-driven pieces of **** they really are. The characters and story in those films were beyond lame and they certainly didn't carry the films in any way.

Completely agree.

No one ever really liked Godzilla '98:ninja:

I think you failed to see my point. AI is not a cerebral masterpiece, therefore Cflash's opinions are questionable.

Maybe I should have said "tried to be" because I'm actually not a die-hard fan of the other movie I used in the example. But, A.I. gets an A for effort in my book. And it's by no means a DUMB movie. On the other hand, Independence Day, Armageddon, Godzilla 98... those are BALLS-OUT DUMB.

Not that it means anything to certain folks, but A.I. is on RottenTomatoes Top 100 best reviewed sci-fi films of all time. Where's Independence Day, Armageddon, etc? Will Transformers be on that list? Nah.

I've met a few people that "liked" them. Nobody that actually considers it a deep movie that spoke to you or made you think or are otherwise well-made movies. Just Popcorn Fun in the Remo Williams not Indy Jones category.

Loved may have been extreme, but most people hate to admit but they'll watch Armageddon whenever it's on. That's just a fact. And since when does critical praise matter for anything? Godzilla is probably a stretch, but everyone I know loves ID4 and most people like Armageddon even if they won't admit it.

Kinda like NSYNC having catchy tunes right? Or better example: everybody and their grandma liking ICE ICE BABY when it came out.
That's not really a complement, dude.

It's not about being complimentary. If someone played Ice Ice Baby at a party right now, I'm willing to be everyone would get down and get funky.:o

It's an undeniable fact, people still like ID4 and Armageddon. Godzilla, a little less. But with the other two, those movies get massive air time til this day on cable and premium channels and it's not because the cable companies want to torture you.:whatever:

Godzilla '98 was utter crap, I agree with you there. Not even Jean Reno could save that film. You have to blame yourself for watching MTV to know that the Aerosmith song was played 20 times a day. Darkphere is right though, your average movie goers did enjoy Armageddon and ID4. The average movie goes isn't a reviewer or poeple like us who constantly go on message boards. I will fully back up Darkpheres' statement, I don't know many "average movie goers" who hated or disliked those two movies. Most of those people like to go to the movies for fun, not to analyze and disect the film their watching. I'm the same at times, while I like character driven films and films that make you think, I also like mindless action sometimes. I enjoyed ID4 and Armageddon, they weren't great films by far but they were fun. Now Godzilla '98 although in the same vein in regards to humour and whatnot somehow just turned out to be a complete turd IMO.

A follow up on my initial comment.

The fact that this is a Michael Bay movie. You get what you expect. Crazy action. Crazy explosives and all that usual jazz. But this time you get good acting, a coherent plot, and EMOTION. FRICKING EMOTION, along with it.

It's like Michael Bay's passion all along was to do a Transformers movie.

The emotion could have been better though. At least more of it.

sssshhh. Bashing Artificial Intelligence only impresses morons.

And calling it a cerebral masterpiece only impresses the blonde girl with the 1.6 GPA who has no idea what you just said.

AI was a very good movie. I would have liked it a million times better if they didn't have the tacked on happy ending...but I digress.

I'll paypal you $100 if you can quote CFlash calling it a cerebral masterpiece prior to my posting this.

It's pretty straight forward.

You're bashing him for calling it something he never called it. So if you can quote him saying it in a post he made before I made my offer, then I'll admit you're right, he's the ass you suggest he is, and give you $100.

I'm curious if someone, anyone, can explain the difference in the emotion in Transformers compared to say Armageddon another Bay film. Mainly referring to the scene with Liv Tyler and Bruce Willis saying their goodbyes.

Saw it. Had a whole night to discuss it with friends. Slept on it.

If there’s anything I’ve learned from participating in this TF forum and lurking in the others here at SHH, is how to make lemonade from lemons. Hence, why I’ve liked everything from brilliant X-Men to just-OK Fantastic Four. Yes, I even liked (or rather didn’t hate) Superman Returns and Spider-man 3. And, while I totally understand the marks the latter two missed, I would never ever call them “dumb.”

On the other hand, this movie, boy oh boy, is probably the most ******ed (and I don’t use that word lightly), most innane, meaningless movie I have ever seen. I’m sorry… but it must be said… if you think this movie is “good” you need to have your IQ checked. No, I didn’t expect the movie to be some cerebral masterpiece like 2001 or A.I. And, sure, some movies suffer from bad execution (like.. I dunno… Daredevil, Fantastic Four, maybe)… but it takes a lot for a movie to be BALLS-OUT DUMB.

I’m not going to point out the pros and cons because many of you have done it really well. There was some good stuff. I really enjoyed the first 45 minutes or so: the air base attack, Sam being chased by Bumblebee (the scene where he’s spying BB as a robot from away is very good), etc. The movie went seriously down hill once Frenzy started doing his thing. The arrival of the Autobots (falling from the sky) was AWESOME… and oh so promising. But the movie went utter craptitude once they were actually introduced. Once the backyard scene was over the entire audience breathed a sigh of relief.

I remember months ago people were asking “what scene are you most looking forward to.” Because of the trailers everybody was like “oooh the Optimus/Bonecrusher fight.” What Optimus/Bonecrusher fight?!!! They fall over an overpass and Optimus stabs him? What Megatron/Optimus fight???? Did I miss it? There is NO OPTIMUS/MEGATRON fight! If you saw it, it’s because your brain spliced in the missing scenes. Half the time you couldn’t tell if it was Megatron or Starscream doing the fighting in any scene.

I don’t really know how to close. I can understand how some people liked it or just 'enjoyed' it. But, you have to do some SERIOUS brain checking at the door… something I was apparently unsuccessful at doing.

It's pretty straight forward.
