The Video Game Thread

It would be great if they started off with a scene showing the destruction of krypton and you are Jor-el and you have to to a puzzle to start Clark's ship once it is done you can choose which story line you want to go off of(pick any crisis time period etc) and off you go the opening cinematic would play, and the ship would land. The training period would be with young Clark as a young teenager. You could learn all your powers and controls etc. Depending on the story line you chose, you can make flight last where he just jumps then turns into flight or can fly from the get go.

Another cinematic it can be Clark getting the job. Now depending on the story line you can be confined to metropolis, or the world. All missions would be intertwining to the story like AA or AC. As the story progresses you can upgrade your powers to defeat the bosses. Side missions could include races, saving people, power feats etc. Once you beat the game all the story lines would go into one and you could pick which costume you wanted and play any mission you wanted.

The speed would pick up as you got more powerful. For instance as you start out, it can be everything is moving fast around your screen but Superman appears to be moving normally and you get points for not crashing into things. At the most powerful, everything zooms around but if you press a button everything moves incredibly slow(this could be used in a power feat level) Like seeing multiple bullets and you have to plan which order you have to stop them in and you start of moving normally. You could see it as Superman or how everyone else sees it in a video reel that saves. To superman everything is moving incredibly slow and you are moving at normal speed. To everyone else you see a blur. This could make it challenging, as you progress you may not be fast enough to stop all the bullets, thus making a regret meter or something go up the more you get the more points you lose and the slower you gain xp to upgrade your power, do to guilt.

All the powers would be done in this way. I dunno just a thought. For the Reporting assignments it could be like LA Noire or something like that. You can use the powers to cheat a little but get more points for not.

What you could do there is have the game based on the beginnings of Superman's career.

You train at the Kent farm for the prologue. After everything's done, it skips to the tutorial mission of Clark saving Smallville from a Tornado or something.

So like you said, hulk24, Superman would gain power upgrades throughout the gameplay. Different missions open up as Superman gains more power.

Also, say you have 2 meters in gameplay. A trust meter as Superman, and a suspicion meter as Clark. When you play as Clark you have to do and say the right things so people's suspicions won't rise. Like Heavy Rain.

I wonder if rocksteady has been assigned to a superman game to coincide with the release of man of steel.

Geoff Johns said they aren't going to do a tie in game for Superman, just try and get a good game out there like they did with Batman.

oh I didn't mean a tie-in, I meant something along the lines of the arkham games, just something that focuses on making an interesting superman game

but that sounds like johns vaguely confirmed a superman game in the works?

I'm surprised they aren't developing a justice league game based on the new 52, I think that would be a great idea. If there are new consoles coming I can see them holding off of a third batman game at the moment. But I'm sure rocksteady is working on something.

The new PS and Xbox are out next year, so they'll definitely be working on something for them.

And as I always say...a new Superman game for the next gen SHOULD BE EPIC!!!

I'm more surprised no one has posted on deviantart, or just here, the Injustice Superman design.

With the creation of DCE and the New 52, all new media featuring Superman will not feature the underoos. He looks shorter because he is stood further away.

Midget Superman? Now even his Goddamn height is a copyright issue?!

You know that none of the characters are standing next to each other, right? Superman is actually a little further away than Batman. He's not short.

I think DC has something up their sleeves. But I rather they take their time like Arkham Asylum and Arkham City than give us a ****** Superman game like the one that was released with Superman Returns.

I think Man of Steel would make a great tie in game. Here is my idea for a game.

Based on what we know it seems there will be a war on Krypton so have the game start with that story so I would start the game as Jor-El who has to fight through the war to get back to his lab to send Kal-El off into space.
Here would be a great oppertunity to have some First Person Shooter style levels or 3rd person like Uncharted. You battle against Zods forces and when you get to the lab you have to stop Kal-el's ship from being destroyed so you can send him off into safety.

After this we would have a few more linear based levels that develop Clarks powers ranging from some times as a youth in Smallville, to bigger events that we know are in the move (Tornado, Oil Rig etc). These levels would serve as tutorial levels for each power/powers with the final level at this stage having you utilise all of them.

When we get to Metropolis we now have an open world sandbox mode. As standard you are Superman and can move around the city at will stopping random crimes as they happen.

The Daily Planet building would be your main base so to speak as this is where you get your various missions that develop the story. Some of these would take place in open world metropolis as Clark where you would have to do some investigative reporting, sort of like LA Noire, and of course many would be as Superman.

The Planet would also serve as a place to take place in mini games such as being Jimmy Olson having to get photos as Superman, and also would hold the store in which you can buy unlockables such as new costumes and missions.

Unlockable costumes would include:

-New 52 Armour
-New 52 Action Comics
-Classic
-Christopher Reeve
-Superman Returns
-Animated Series

You could also have downloadable characters such as Supergirl and Superboy.

Anyway that was my idea, what do you all think??

I'd rather not have 1st person, too much structure like Uncharted (however you did only mention Jor-El) or a game tied to the film.

I loved to see a superman game with open world, that you can choise to be clark ou superman at any time depending of the mission, change clark for the investigation or to save the day in Superman suit, That iconic moments in the films clark changing and hiding to become superman and fly away with the superman theme to save the world is crucial to have in a superman game, and the company that can bring the history, the gameplay and the graphics, is definatly Rocksteady!!

As long as its not too similar to the movie. I think it would be good if we follow the storyline of the new 52. Some videogames made a mistake of having it too close to the movie and kinda spoils everything.
I would go all out and include Jor El, Lara El, Alura, Supergirl, Superboy, Zod, Chris Kent, Steel and everyone. The all star cast.

I don't know much about video game production. Is it too late for them to start a tie-in game for next year? Shouldn't we have heard something by now?

It's feasibly not too late. It just wouldn't be very good. But Geoff Johns said that WB Interactive will be focusing on original gaming for DC properties rather than tie ins.

Oh, yeah, that's right. Regardless, a quality Superman game of any sort, really shouldn't be expected by next summer, correct?

I wouldn't bet on it, if Man of Steel is a success I could easily see something for the year after though.

Possibly. If they really wanted to do it right, they would use that popularity to get the funding/motivation to take the three years to make a really excellent game that would be ready for Man of Steel 2's release.
